“Is anyone interested in snowshoeing one afternoon around the holidays? :-)

Thinkbubelz & I hope to take advantage of the available snow before it all melts and goes away (apparently, they say it may be in the 40s in the next week or so.... we'll see...)

I am itching to get out and "play" in the snow! :-)

And, if anyone has suggestions for a good place to go locally, I'd love to hear it!

Last winter, Thinkbubelz, Tarabull & I went to a small park by our house--has anyone ever gone up to Kensington Park or Stoney Creek? Do the have some nice trails?

I'm thinking along the lines of: Snowshoeing in the afternoon, and then gathering people at our house for some hot goodies (maybe a potluck?) afterwards.... ;-)”

I may be able to get out one evening next week for a little snowshoeing... if there's fresh snow. I went out on Thursday night, after our last big snowfall. And, even tho we really got dumped on, it wasn't enough to snowshoe. My friend and I did a few miles in just our boots.”

“I'll be out in the Huron National Forst next week (check the trips page). I called the ranger station and they said the snowshoeing may be pretty good. Don't know about fresh powder. The area around Lumbermans Monument is really pretty, lots of sweeping views from the banks of the Au Sauble river.”

Where were you yesterday? seems like barely a dusting of snow by me!”

“Well, we had snow in the Keweenaw for a short time... and now it's gone *sniff* Iron Mountain has enough snow to cover the ground - not much good for anything else. Last word out of munising was that they had decent snow. Not sure where they're at now. I am planning to head to Munising in the very near future. Gonna snowshoe into spray falls. I went in there about 2 years ago in December and could not believe the beautiful ice formations around where the falls go over the cliffs. Don't forget, February brings about the Ice Festival in Munising as well!

“I have several maps for Hoist, but the best one I have is actually a printed copy of a picture I took of the big map at the Trailhead.

Of course, I'm nowhere near home so emailing it to you isn't an option for a couple days...”

“Never mind I scrounged up a pityful looking wreck of a map. I'll pick up another one when I get there. Exactly what sticker or fees do you have to pay there? It's been years since I was there.”

“I think it's a 6 or 8 dollar per night parking fee.”

“You need the Huron Manistee National Forest sticker. Depending on how you get there...Mio has a ranger station and there are a couple shops in Glennie that sell them. Check the NF website. Otherwise, you can pay per night at the TH. Not sure how much, tho.”

Too bad I had to spend both days cooped up at a high school college fair and scholarship interviews.... Wouldn't you know, they picked the weekend of the nicest weather to do both... :-(”
