Granite Gear Vapor Trail PackView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 12 of 12 messages posted.
Who has the best mail order price? “I've decided I want a Granite Gear Vapor Trail backpack for my Wind River trip due to the need to carry a bear can and a few more pounds than I usually do in my GoLite packs. I'm concerned about flying with my old frame pack and it getting damaged before the trip so it is not an option. Who has the best mail order deal on a 2004 model medium? Binks site has a good price but I think all his are the old models without the internal water bladder sleeve.” 11:15:04 AM 7/09/04 “I have the old model - I don't have room for the water bladder inside anyway - I put it in the side pocket. When I replace this pack, I'm going to buy another one just like it. It's holding up pretty good so far - this is my second year with it and i'm pretty rough on it.” 11:20:21 AM 7/09/04 “I think that's the pack socco has. I know he got a good deal on it, but it may be the older model as well. Hopefully he'll chime in at some point.” 11:22:41 AM 7/09/04 “close, but no cigar zac. i have the virga, which has no hydration sleeve and is a little bit smaller and lighter. also, not meant to carry much more than 20 lbs.” 11:32:41 AM 7/09/04 “Well I at least got the company correct. :D” 11:35:00 AM 7/09/04 “yup, i don't think the packs are much different either.” 11:35:48 AM 7/09/04 “SS, we're going to be twins, or triplets if Wingding comes to WY. I got the Vapor Trail this year. I have been carrying it around town a lot since I got it and am very happy with it. I can put up to 3 liters in my hydration system and put it in the side pocket. It works great. Pay particular attention to your waist measurement when you order. The belt is interchangeable, but mine (I have the small pack for the torso length) is almost too small. Reordering another belt is harder than getting the right one up front.” 12:40:02 PM 7/09/04 Wanna buy mine? “I bought one about a month ago & used it once, decided I'm probably going to sell it. I've decided that I don't really want to go ultra-light, I just like carrying too much stuff with me. Example, I debated long & hard this past week re what gear to take. I was headed over Mono Pass, 12,000+ in the Sierra, weather forecast was afternoon thundershowers (of course), temps around freezing at that elevation, so decided NOT to take my Bivy & took my tent, took warm fleece, took my bearicade (required), took food for 3 days, etc. Bottom line is I've concluded that if I want to backpack then I have to be in good enough shape to take all my creature comforts. My pack will usually be 30-32 lbs for a long weekend, and I like the suspension system on my ArcTeyrx pack so much that I'm willing to carry a few extra lbs to be more comfortable. The Granite Gear is "OK", but I'm spoiled by the ArcTeryx.” 12:49:47 PM 7/09/04 wanderer “What size is it and the size of the hipbelt? Does it have the internal water bladder pocket?” 1:09:37 PM 7/09/04 “It's a size medium, a new model (I bought from REI) so it has the bladder pkt. Didn't know there were optional hipbelt sizes, so it has whatever is standard.” 1:11:38 PM 7/09/04 SS “I just got mine from Bink's and it does have a sleeve just next to the back that holds a 3 liter perfectly. You might want to check the sizes, I have a long torso Vapor Trail. Check with him to be sure, cause he had the best price. BTW, I really like my Vapor Trail, but have found out that it is not waterproof as I had believed, you still need a pack cover. I plan on getting a sil-nylon cover from Brandon when I get over there.” 1:19:49 PM 7/09/04 “I have a 18" torso. That falls dead center between a small and medium size Granite Gear pack. What size fits for y'alls torso sizes in real life?” 1:42:27 PM 7/09/04
