Dub...
I wonder if Dub's parents know what a great kid he is???...Polite...good sense of humor....very smart.....respects his elders.....being in college isn't easy...lots of stress.....and being a kid at this time isn't easy...easy access to drugs and other substances...it is hard to find good kids now days....I am proud of my kids and their accomplishments...and I'll bet they are too!!!

LOL @ TD.

Why thank you Divinity, you are a great person yourself. You've got three wonderful kids (one my age whom I still need her number...), you're kind, easy to talk to, great company on the trail, you work hard for a living, and you can cook up some good food in the backcountry, and you're a wonderful friend!

Well, Div, I could lie and tell him it was easy...but the fun part is true! Send him up for a weekend...once he meets some of the girls I know he might change his mind. Especially on a game day...when he sees 25,000 hotties dressed in scarlet and gray he'll want to become a college man.

As for backpacking, that might be a little more of a challenge.

Most kids my age just want to party and go to the beach...hence the reason why I end up backpacking with you guys without anyone from home.

LOL....yes...he said he would go camping with me, but he said he hates backpacking.....I made him promise me he would go backpacking with me...I will have to take him somewhere very pretty & cool...so when he starts complaining...at least I will be happy..LOL...

I get yelled at about once a week for going backpacking and you beg your son and daughters to go with you. "You put too many miles on your car." "You spend too much money on backpacking." I haven't bought any new gear since March and trips only cost me gas. I guess I could just stay at home and not go backpacking (getting exercise) but partying every weekend spending more money in a weekend than the cost of three backpacking trips. That's what most people my age do.

ATTENTION: Would you all please move over to the "Bragging on my Kids" thread?
"(one my age whom I still need her number...)"
Dub
And I'm still trying to get divinity's number!

Divinity -May I suggest a little refraint from pushing backpacking on him? If he is willing to go camping, I suggest getting him warmed up with some car camping combined with some canoeing. From there, eventually, you could ease into canoeing combined with backpacking(portaging). At his age he is probably more interested in action, sports, dancing, etc., and would prefer places where girls are visible.

I was able to get my children in the woods at early ages. So, on my recent trip, my youngest daughter(20) at Grinnell, IA, chose to sleep in my little tent at Rock Creek SP, rather than her own bedroom in the house that she is renting with some other classmates. I guess I should be posting on the
"Bragging on my Kids" thread, myself. After reading this thread, I wrote a check and sent some extra spending money to my "baby" in Iowa.

Ithaca is a no go for several reasons. First no $$$. I am literally down to about $150 total! Hence the job search. Second reason is my parents made me promise to not go on anymore trips until Oct and I'll probably break that in Aug for Vesuvius if I can. And third I have something else going on here that weekend that I can't miss. I looked into driving down when it was over but it's almost 8 hours and I just can't do that for a day. Sorry guys! Maybe next year.
