Not sure what I like
I've only been backpacking for a short while and I'm not sure if I enjoy the walks or the peaks more. Being a college student in the north east limits the places I can go to and I've truthfully only hiked in the Adirondacks.

I'm kind of nervous to leave my comfort zone there and explore other areas. I'm honestly not sure if I like climbing peaks more and if I should pursue that or if it's the trip there that does it. All I know is that when I come back to NYC all I do is wish I was back up in the dacks.

Backpacking is addicting. Last July 4th I went backpacking for the first time in 9 years in NC and hiked the Black Mtn Crest trail. Ever since then, if I go more than two weeks without hitting the trail I start seeing spots and my brains starts to malfunction. I personally like peak bagging with alot of milege attached to the trip.

You might consider going to the Whites in NH. That has both challenging hiking and some nice peaks to climb.

Presidential Traverse
I'm considering trying the Presidential Traverse later this summer or some time in the fall. Advice?

I need to get some maps and references, the Lonely Planet guide gave me the idea, but I know I can find some more specific and tailored information for this specific backpacking trip.

I want to do a trip to the Whites this fall. I have a trip to the Blacks (NC) in October so it may be tricky.

Presdential traverse is not a trail, it's a hike. Generally done in one day, varys some depending on who is doing it, but covers 9 peaks over 4000 feet although Franklin and Clay are not on the list of 48, about 19-20 miles something like 8500 ft of elevation gain.

Spring would be better do to long days but I have a headlamp and I'm in if I can get the time off.

Pepsi, you are the man. I wanted to tell you, that was some hiking you did back there on the Devils Path.
