“Well, once you get to denver, you have to either fly into aspen, which is really $$$, or you can drive about 3 hours to the TH. A definate must-do though. I think we will be going back in the spring or summer to complete the 4-pass loop. You are welcome to join us then.”

“Gas + Parking + 4 hours of your life driving (if you are lucky and don't hit a bad day of traffic) I'd say you'd be better off just flying out of Bham.”

“the drive to Aspen isn't bad - all interstate - cept for the last 30 minutes, and its a good hiway. Unless you take embear's scenic route.

“The drive to the airport isn't too bad for me. If we go, we'll have 4-6 of us, so you're getting to about $800-1200 total savings on airfare. It's about 30 minutes to the B'ham airport or 2 hrs to ATL from my house.”

The temps were perfect...60s during the day, 40s at night. If you go during peak season (3rd week in Sept), be prepared for massive crowds if you are not backpacking. THere are 3 campsites nearby that are really really small, and all the local hotels are booked up well in advance. Believe me, we found that out a little too late.”

Since school will be back in session it'll be a backpacking trip. If we could go during leaf season with the family then we'd probably try for a family trip. I suspect it'll be a bunch of friends local to me. We were trying for a trip to Utah in March but it doesn't looks like it'll happen now.”

“Yeah, I heard the Southwest thingy. Supposed to start up in the next year I think. Frontier and United have pretty reasonalble flights too.”

“No-go on Frontier. Air Trans is the cheap one out of ATL. ATL isn't really that bad. You can get a hotel for about $60 the night before the flight. They'll shuttle you to and from the airport AND keep your car for the entire time without an additional fee.”

“Frontier would be a good bet into DIA, they usually have the best rates when I look for flights to Nashville for my kids.”

“Well Ewker, the diff is that Frontier is a direct flight, with only like 2 1/2 hours in the air vs other cheaper flights where you spend 6 hours between flying and layovers. I would rather pay more with a nice short flight.”
