...The majority of the men who frequent dance-halls go there with nothing but carnal thoughts in their minds....

Do the majority of men go anywhere without carnal thoughts in their minds? Just wondering.

That's pretty funny V-man.

Well, I kinda doubt if they're still in favor of women dancing with women and men dancing with men...

Yes SS they have become more inclusive by adding same sex dance partners to the litany of things they don't like.

I think spooning leads to forking.

In some of those bad places spooning and forking with the wrong one can lead to knifing.

Square dancing is fun.

Lyra - you're from Minnesota, right? Ever hear of Whopee John Wilfahrt and the Seven Flying Dutchmen? A polka band from the 50's. True.

Now, bow to your partner.

I think it was to refine our social skills or something. Now they do "juicy dancing" to get back at their parents.

What on Earth were they forcing us to square dance in freakin' New Jersey of all places for? So we'd be prepared for the big ho down?

Has Anyone Ever Taken Dance Lessons
Yeah! We learned The Hustle and some Saturday Night Fever moves in gym class.

But that was a long time ago.

I was forced to square dance in the 4th grade. I have avoided square dancing ever since. In Junior high they offered an optional class in ballroom dancing at night. Hundreds of us signed up. It was one of the best times I had in Jr. High.

My wife and I took West Coast Swing Lessons. If her knee ever gets better, we will probably continue.

Thanks for the ad! I had forgotten my Baptist roots!

yes, what's up with the square dancing anyways... when I was in elementary school, square dancing was just an excuse for the guys to stomp on the girls feet... I wonder if they thought that square dancing would discourage any other type of dancing in the future?!

I wonder if they still subject the kids to that torture in schools today?!

Phil,

I had the 5th grade square dance too. It seemed like all the girls were a foot taller than me. All I remember were Amazon women with sweaty palms.

Thinkbubelz and I LOVE to swing dance-- we even went and got some "vintage" clothing so that we could look "stylin'" while we are on the dance floor!

What I like about swing is that you can do the moves to most music (most rock music and pop music are in the 4/4 rhythm, therefore, you can swing dance to it... I've even swing danced to some music by Quiet Riot... LOL....

We tried going to a country bar once-- got snubbed by a snotty waitress... won't go again unless we have friends with us.... but we've learned a number of new line dances (hustles) from other friends at other venues.... :-)

I actually took dance lessons once upon a time. However, no amount of lessons can cure the white man's rhythm.

I had to chaperone a high school dance this weekend (talk about spooning and carnal thoughts on those kids minds....). Anyway, at the elementary school next door, there was a square dance happening. Its alive and well, people!
