I was flipping TV channels the other night. I ran across one of the local access channel and they had a group on there dancing. To a person who cannot dance at all I found it interesting.

I checked out there website and they offer classes to beginners for a very reasonable price. They met on a Tuesday night and it is $ 7.00 for a guest.
Some of the classes have been beginner Rumba, East & West Coast Swing, Hustle, Cha Cha and Salsa.

Just curious how many of you can do or tried those dances?

Dancing is one thing I wished I had done when younger. I noticed that if a guy knows how to dance the ladies will come to him. I know that is still true today.

Sounds like a great idea Ewker. The ladies do love a man that can dance and it'd be a great way to network the ladies at the same time.

I can only dance between beer #8 and #16. Even then it ain't purty. Good luck!

Should we all take dance lessons so we can dance the cha cha around the fire at the next Ocala trip?

Ewker, I took ballroom dancing for 6 months before my daughter got married. They taught the swing, cha cha, waltz, foxtrot, etc. I'd check out the local yellow pages for dance classes, though, instead of the internet.

Seriously though, there are several opps to learn here in Nashvegas. I think they have a swing dance thing at Centennial park on Sunday nights? You should do it!!!

This coming Monday night is the beg. class for the East Coast Swing. The lady who emailed me back said it is a very easy dance to learn. Of course that was a woman saying that and she hasn't seen how clumsy I can be...lol

Silverado's is on Murfreesboro Rd right up from Thompson Lane before you get to Briley Pkwy.

I am with Nigal and Ewker on the how many beers it takes to get me on the dance floor...however, slow dancing is much easier for me to do. Infact, I am sure not to go home alone after a slow dance...LOL! I haven't slow danced in three years.

1) Speaking of Murfeesburough (or however its spelled), what's Walkindude been up to?

2) I took "social dance" in college for a PE credit. Lots of fun. Swing, ballroom, we even did a couple days of tango, line dancing, and yes, everyone's favorite, square dancing. It was a fun class!

I was a box-steppin' fool, back in the day.

I'll be willing to try line dancing to "Achy Breaky Heart" only if the Chipmonks are singing it.

I can't stand country music so I doubt I would be doing any country stuff.

Smiley, back in Jr high school we had to take some country dance lessons in PE. Wasn't my favorite then either.

I went last night to take the dance lessons. I knew I was a week behind since I didn't make it the first week. Luckily they reviewed what was taught last week.
This lesson was for the East Coast Swing.
First they have all the guys on one side and the ladies on the other side. The instructor shows the guys what to do then tells the ladies to do the opposite.
After you practice the main steps he starts adding a little more to it.
Finally he tells you to find a partner and to get into 5 rows.
There you start practicing what you have learned. You just do your steps then you add the twirl her away then back. At that point you switch partners and do it again.
We went up and down the row probably 3 or 4 times. You get to dance with ladies who have been doing this a long time to beginners like yourself.
After the instructor feels like you are comfortable with the moves they lower the lights and start the music.
I was never comfortable with the steps and trying to rememeber what to do next. Practice, practice, practice!!!!
It was fun though :) After the lesson the last lady I was with asked me if I wanted to try a whole song with her. She was new also to so we had a blast laughing and talking.
Looking forward to next week. Wooohooo I may become a dancer yet!!!

So what if you are only 5 feet tall and get paired up with someone who is much much taller? Might be kinda difficult, huh?

Glad you had a good time.

I did one session with a tiny Asian lady. I would say she was as short or shorter than you. We did have a problem where I had to go under her arm as I turned..lol
Another time we have to lay our arms behind each others head. She couldn't do that either.

To me the hardest part was keeping the dance step while doing the twirls and the turns. At least I didn't step on anyones toes.

My wife and I took about 4 years of West Coast Swing lessons. It was very hard the first 6-12 months because I had to learn to lead and keep the beat properly in my head. We will pick it up again when my wife gets over some foot and knee trouble she is having.

In our classes we always rotated partners every few minutes also. You really learn by having partners of all shapes and sizes.

East Coast Swing is not that hard because the count is the same for each move (6 beats). West Coast Swing is harder because you mix 6 & 8 count moves. There are other subtle differences also.

There used to be some other dancers on TT. Maybe they will chime in.

Keep dancin'

Dance-halls are ticket-offices to Hell. The dance-hall has always been the handmaid of the brothel and the saloon. If we are to have men and women worthy to become parents of the coming generation, we must abolish the dance-hall. It leads to carnality and ought to have been abolished when we abolished the brothel and saloon. I would as soon have my son frequent a saloon as to have my daughter visit dance-halls. The modern dance, with its music, is nothing if not carnal. It leads to carnality, and, when kept up for hours, it leads straight to Hell. Two-thirds of the women of the street fell as the result of the dance-hall. The majority of the men who frequent dance-halls go there with nothing but carnal thoughts in their minds. The youth who goes to the dance-hall looking for clean pleasure is considered lacking in carnal technique. Innocence can not endure dance-halls, where the atmosphere is heavy with sensual music, and men and women seem to be held together with adhesive tape. If girls would dance with girls and men with men the movement against dance-halls would not be necessary.
