After reading a couple of issues off the news stand 6 months ago I got a 1 year ($12) subscription to National Geographic Adventure. Even though it is not specifically a backpacking magazine I am continously surprised by the quality of the articles in this publication.

Does anyone else here have a subscription to Adventure? I find the information much, much more useful than Backpacker Magazine.

My only point of contention with Adventure is maybe they have too much advertising influence directing their articles related to gear.. but I can't really confirm that. Opinions?

I enjoy this magazine, too, via hand-me-down from someone else. I find that I looked forward to it much more than Backpacker or NG Travel. This mag and Outside are my faves. You're right in that it's not a bp magazine per se. But the articles are always interesting. I loved the one a month or so ago about "The Miracle of Priest's Grotto."

It is my favorite magazine. I used to subscribe to about a dozen magazines. Now only one, because it's the only one I always read cover to cover.

This months short thing on Switzerland made me want to buy an airline ticket on the spot.

NG Explorer and Backpacker are the only two I subscribe to now. I find useful info in both, but NG Explorer certainly has more interesting and better written articles. I used to subscribe to Outside too, but that mag is way to commercial.

Haven't seen 'Outside' yet, is it specifically a backpacking mag?

The June/July double issue on the 'Great Hikes' was great, it's hard to believe that the AT is actually tougher than the PCT & CDT

"it's hard to believe that the AT is actually tougher than the PCT & CDT"

Having hiked extensively in both the east and the west I have no doubt that the AT is more physically demanding.

Wow, did anyone else notice the botched caption for the big photo of Bridalveil Falls in the latest issue? It says something about "Half Dome" rising above the falls. Yikes, you would think a National Geographic product wouldn't misidentify something so obvious! It makes me wonder if anything in that magazine is accurate at all....

I dropped that mag after I got sick of all of the grandiose, expensive trips they post, lead by these adventure companies. Sure, some of the photos are good, but I was the wrong audience for Adventure AND the their Traveler mag.
