Am I GoLite nuts?
I am thinking of buying the "Feather" bag. Anyone have comments/experience with GoLite bags?

I don't have any direct experience with it. In researching light gear it seems like most go-lite isn't quite as light as other gear and seems to be priced because of the name and association with Jardine. In other words, pretty pricy for the weight.

No opinion on the sleeping bags but...

On Jardine's website he states that he is no longer associated with Golite. The contract probably ran out and they have made a name for themselves in their own right. Interesting is all.

Jardine didn't like the newer designs Golite was coming up with.
He's a fairly odd fellow.
I love the two Jardine designed packs I have. Both the Breeze and Day packs get a lot of use from me.

I looked at the Feather Bag. Only has a 24" zipper. I have to be able to unzip and use a bag as a quilt sometimes to cool off.

Yeah the zip thing is sort of annoying. It's 16 inches though, so as long as I can get my arms and upper body out, I'm good. I sleep cold though. The bag I'm looking at is the Feather which is less than 2 lbs, rated 20 degrees. So it is actually light.

Jardine's book
Is finally at my library branch waiting for me. I thought it would be an interesting read. I know I can never go his way. I like to be in a fully enclosed tent thanks. I don't want critters trying to crawl/fly/slither into bed with me, thanks. But lightening up regular gear is just fine with me. I want to be able to enjoy myself, not stare at the ground as I trudge up the mountain, missing all the great views!

pixie - Jardine's book is great for thinking out of the box!
Some of it is hogwash, but other parts are great!

I lightened my load greatly with the purchase of a Henry Shires TarpTent. I'm on my second one now. The first did not have a floor and he now sells a completely inclosed model, which I bought.
Great ultralight shelter! The model I have is the Squall.

Groovy
I just got the REI Roadster the other week though. It is a 2 wall and only weighs 3 lbs 3 oz packed. It works really well for me. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone much bigger than me though. It's pretty "cozy."

SS - you mean you don't mill your own grain on a miny mill that's bolted to your kitchen table like Jardine does? What kind of hiker are you?

LOL
I have bought some of the corn flour he raves about as the perfect food. All I can say is his taste buds must be gone. ;-)
