I was really looking forward to meeting everyone at TC4, but with the very unexpected expense of buying a new home, it looks like I’m out… However looking on the bright side of things the Sipsey wilderness is now only 5 miles from my front door, so the trade off was worth it I think… Hope every one has a wonderful time, I know its going to be a blast………..

OK, I think we've got someone checking into backcountry permits other than just for Sat. night... oh, Tillllllllllllllttt??! lol

I was wondering if they have them at the trailheads (like at Wind Cave N'tl Park, where you just leave your carbon copy at that site and take the "hard" copy with ya)... or if you need to actually get them at the visitors center. Cuz based on arrival time Friday night and leaving time to go trudge up that mt. on Saturday morning, I don't think I'll be there when the visitor center is open.

And I take it the backcountry permits are free??

Lizs
Gotta do the Visitor Center thing they told me, then they backed up and said that Barb and Co has reserved ALL of Martins Fork for Friday and Saturday nights...I'm planning on making the Shuttle to Hensley by 1:30 on Friday Afternoon, and while everyone else Parties in town, I'm gonna get the bestest place to hang my Hammock, and sleep like a baby till the Hangover crew hikes in in the morning.....

Backcountry permits are free but you do need one. So I will call the park and see if there is something we can do about those who will be up there etc....

Pre-paid BBQ Dinner at Berkau Park in Cumberland Gap with Music, $10:
BBQ Pork sandwich, coleslaw, baked beans, & a soda or water. The BBQ Dinner will be supplied by Heavy’s BBQ again this year. Folks raved about how good it was last year at the 3rd Annual Titanium Chef! You don’t want to miss out!

I called the Visitor Center about more permits today, and the guy sez:

1) Their hours are 8-5 daily (weekends, too)
2) You have to sign up in person.

(but if Barb can sign us up in advance, that'd be Groovy (and One Less Thing I have to do Saturday morning if I get there later than 5 pm Friday))

I'm thinking of hanging out for a few more days... Sunday night at Martin's Fork and Monday night at Gibson Gap in addition to the Standard Festivities.

So that'll be BBQ (then pass out on Prosecutor's floor at the Ramada) on Friday... Martin's Fork Sat. & Sun pm... Gibson Gap Monday pm... then exit at the Pinnacle on Tuesday afternoon.

I will not be able to make it for sure. I have a ruptured disk (between T-8&9) and go back to an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow (Wed.) I did update the list and wish ya'll a great trip. For those that aren't sure about this trip, you had better go or we will talk about ya for a long time. Really tho, last year was my first TT trip and it should not be missed. I even got a prize (3rd). There are lots of great prizes and lots of TT folks to meet and share the fun with. Be there or be square, or in my case flat on my back!

The website for Ramada said the Cumberland Gap had no more rooms available for 10-15-04. Being one to not trust everything said on the internet, I just called them at the number posted by TownDawg. They have rooms available, and I reserved one. Thank you TownDawg. Ramada would not give me a room number in advance, so maybe someone there is reading the forum.

Div, I would be up for a campsite at Wilderness Road Campground, but don't know what the other half of the party -- and I do mean PARTY...lol -- wants. Prolly camping in town and partying. Me, my last shower pre-TC4 will most likely be Thursday night. YES, just thought I'd share that. LOL!

I am also debating the shuttle or not. I've been out hiking most every day, but still know that 2,000 ft. is a hellacious (sp?) gain and I'm slow as molasses.....

Speaking of which... THANKS TILT!

That really sucks that Barb said you have to get a backcountry permit from the center. Guess I've been spoiled at Wind Cave N'tl Park. Steekin' free backcountry permits at the trailhead. :-)
