Questioning England gave impetus to start our great country... questioning a life without our fill of nature led most of us to backpacking... and then, of course, there was that all important question: "Say, do you think we could have a restaurant where girls show their cleavage, wear the shortest of skirts and flirt with customers, all under bright lights in what we'll call a 'family atmosphere'??!!" And thus Hooters was born. It was quite a concept. LOL! hmmm... wasn't there discussion on here about an equivalent restaurant for us females?? Yeah, I think Tango was gonna run it......” 10:36:10 PM 10/11/04 LOL “It would reverse quickly. Tango would end up being the main attraction. I recall her post about a night-out when she was dancing on the tables!!! I wish I had seen that!” 11:11:24 PM 10/11/04 “I've seen some posts where people are staying at various campgrounds. The web site said Martin's Fork was already secured so I was wondering if most of TT attendees would be there or elsewhere?” 11:22:05 PM 10/11/04 “J, we will all be at Martin's Fork on Saturday night. On Thursday and Friday we stay in town. Are you coming to this one?” 11:29:39 PM 10/11/04 “Yeah, I was driving through the Gap today on my way back home and asked my wife about it. It looks like it will be a family trip and my wife works Friday night so I won't be there until noon on Saturday. I needed to make sure I show up to the right place : )” 11:32:43 PM 10/11/04 “Oh yeah? Sweet...are you guys all gonna hike/shuttle up to Martin's Fork Saturday? Let me tell ya...that 7.5 mile hike is a doozy! A real buttkicker...but the views are awesome! I'm gonna stay Sunday night as well. If you can get the time off and want a ride back to Dayton I got your back...just let me know.” 11:36:39 PM 10/11/04 “We'll have to do the shuttle. I'd be up for the hike but we won't be there until around noon so most of my day would be shot hiking. I'd probably hit the sack once I got back to camp and ruin the only night I'll be able to spend with the group. I'm going to be leaving on Sunday though. I'm trying to save leave up for an extended vacation and a few other things I have planned next year.” 11:40:51 PM 10/11/04 “Thanks again for this link Lizs. http://www.wilderness-road.com/media/wr2004.pdf last edited: 10/12/04 6:50:59 AM” 6:48:05 AM 10/12/04 “So I will ask this. Where does the cook-off actually take place. similar format as the tc2,tc1? Its not on the webpage, grininquiring mind wants to know. has anyone rented the cabin? Yo bear! Most likly mozy in Fri but who knows! MOHaaaaaaa!” 3:15:40 PM 10/12/04 gRrrr.. ;) “Titanium Chef backcountry cookoff IV will be held October 15, 16 at Martin's Fork backcountry campsite within the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park located in Cumberland Gap Tennessee. This year Titanium Chef IV (TCIV) is hosted by the Heritage Trails Festival In Cumberland Gap. There will activities in the Town of Cumberland Gap as well as the Titanium Chef backcountry cookoff. Titanium Chef is a free event to those who simply wish to view the cookoff. The only fees are if you wish to participate in the actual cookoff competition. Please see the register section for more details. Permits have been secured for all who wish to camp at Martin's Fork to view the Titanium Chef Backcountry Cookoff.” 3:21:10 PM 10/12/04 “Titanium Chef Prizes and Categories Overall, First, Second, and Third prizes will be awarded to the best dishes. Judges will be looking at creativity, BP feasibility, and just plain good taste. Prizes will also be awarded for the following categories. GA -> ME a la AT (Most Practical) – This meal is ideal for a long-distance hiker. After putting in a high mileage day, a hiker will need essential carbs and vitamins; however, even though it’s practical, doesn’t mean it can’t be creative! Tasmanian Devil Dish (Most Spiciest) – This meal is eccentric in its use of spice whether it’s spicy hot with jalapeno or spicy rich with curry. BP Elite (Gourmet) – This meal is for the trail elitist who arranges plastic wine glasses and tablecloth on a tree stump (not a requirement). This is generally though of as a first-night meal where you backpack in perishables, or a winter-backpack meal where warm climates will not ruin fresh meat or seafood. Neanderthal Delight (Most Primitive) – This meal is… well, primitive. Foods or meats cooked over an open fire, etc. Use your imagination.” 3:22:17 PM 10/12/04 “As for the cabin.. I heard bearmagnet wanted to make a chalet of love in there!” 3:22:58 PM 10/12/04 “Oooh la la!” 3:39:21 PM 10/12/04 “Who's bringing the disco ball?” 3:40:32 PM 10/12/04 “I remember that the mice in the cabin enjoyed the Opie's bags as a snack.” 3:45:38 PM 10/12/04 “OMG, not those bags, I hope!” 3:51:21 PM 10/12/04 “That's right. He was pissed. There was a big ole bag of trail mix that was ruined.” 4:00:49 PM 10/12/04 “Counting down the days..... 2 more days of work and I leave in two more days....wooooh hoohooooooooo....” 5:55:43 PM 10/12/04 “Divinity is the queen of woohoo!” 5:56:25 PM 10/12/04 “:0” 5:57:59 PM 10/12/04 “That was MY pack that the mice got into! It chewed right through our food bag. UGH!! That better not happen again. I was freaked out that he was still hiding in there somewhere.” 6:10:29 PM 10/12/04 “UT OH......y'all better dress warm...it is going to be a cool weekend in CG!! Thursday....showers.....high 60...low 40 Friday......showers.....high 54...low 38 Saturday...showers......high 58....low 37 BRRRRR...I will welcome a difference of opinion about the weather.....” 6:31:14 PM 10/12/04 “few showers...nothin to it. Don't tell fair-weather...err... jerbear. ;~) I think it's gonna be gorgeous (temps anyway).” 6:33:52 PM 10/12/04 “GREAT hiking weather!!!!!” 6:38:44 PM 10/12/04 “That's right sweetheart. Crisp, delicious, fragrant hiking weather. Served up with a side of hiking buddies, laughs, and woodsmoke. i'll take two!” 6:56:13 PM 10/12/04 Miss Opie “In case no one else has mentioned it, one should always open each zipper a little, when the pack is removed. I have made it a habit. This applies even in shelters in the daylight. The mice love treats. If the mice smell something good, they will get to it, but they will look for an easy entrance first.” 7:00:47 PM 10/12/04 “Just tested out one of our recipes for this weekend. Yummy! Watch out. The trophy wants to stay in Nashville!” 7:58:38 PM 10/12/04 “i did open all the zippers so they wouldn't chew through the backpack..they then gnawed through sil-nylon and 2 thick ziplock bags...i'm hanging this year...not putting CRAP in that cabin..it does have 4-6 bunks...smells like butt, is kinda damp, and nastier than the leconte shelter during high use.” 8:05:04 PM 10/12/04 ““Divinity is the queen of woohoo!” Currafreak 5:56:25 PM Just what do you mean by 'woohoo'??? ;-) LMAO!!!” 8:10:23 PM 10/12/04 “OPIE - Sorry about the damage. Mice know a lot of tricks. One even forced his way until he opened the tent zipper enough to slip in and run up, across, down and back out of my tent. After too many experiences, I now set mouse traps in the front seat and in the trunk of the car, when parked at a trailhead or a campground. This has resulted in a number of mice departing to mice heaven!” 8:28:55 PM 10/12/04 “There are BIGGER pests to worrry about in CG...they have bears.......at the park in town they had bear proof trash cans......” 3:32:46 AM 10/13/04 “Divinity -- when I went down to get water, there was bear scat at Martin's Fork. I may have taken a picture of it, not sure.” 10:03:56 AM 10/13/04 “TD is the only person I know who takes pictures of bear $hit. ;-)” 10:27:34 AM 10/13/04 “LOL Ok, I've done it too.” 10:29:24 AM 10/13/04 “heehee.. I do I do! I think I started.. when I'd get home.. and people would ask -- well.. did you see any bears?..” 10:33:12 AM 10/13/04 “I'm sure there's gonna be a few photo worthy steamers Sunday AM after all that gourmet chow Saturday PM.” 12:10:32 PM 10/13/04 Winning Recipe Ready “I just attempted trail run #2 and I'm ready to come win. I've also created a second desert dish which will win as well. :-D” 12:42:14 PM 10/13/04 “TD... But then you have to offer the scat ID class! lol” 12:51:20 PM 10/13/04 “By the way, Im not the only one who takes pictures of scat.. I know another guy on this board who does!.. lol.. lol.. and the ID game.. lol... he plays that too!” 1:02:48 PM 10/13/04 “BusyBee is signed up for the trip...that's my daughters nickname. We're looking forward to seeing everyone at CG !” 2:19:41 PM 10/13/04 Ramada “They still have rooms...with the weather being "iffy' I decided to drive up on Thursday night(Should be in by 7/8 PM), got a room at the Ramada, and will catch the shuttle up to Hensley on Friday at 1:30....so while ya'll are freezin' an' gettin' wet on Thursday, I'll be steamin' up the shower and getting some Z's..... Will see you all at Martin's Fork on Friday and Saturday nights...” 3:19:05 PM 10/13/04 Welcome “Well, I just want to be one of the first ones to welcome all of you to C Gap for this event. I will not be camping out this year but will be at the B-BQ on Friday. Then I am off Sat. night to usher for the Bluegrass concert at LMU. Those of you that Cache, there are now 2 in the town of Cumberland Gap. See you all on Friday. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to scare the women and kids that came along. (It was in the middle of the trial and everyone walked around it!) We left out all kinds of food (popcorn) on the picnic table at Martin's Fork last year. We didn't have any bears that I know of except that loud noise during the night! I would strongly advise hanging your food, toiletries, or anything that smells good or bad. LOL Ya'll have a great trip. Hope to see ya next year.” 5:17:51 PM 10/13/04 “Karo...I am sorry you can't come this year :( I enjoyed your company and your trout....yummmm.... Boy you guys sure know your POO!!!!” 5:23:03 PM 10/13/04 “Wooo Hooo even the weather is looking better!! Fri-AM showers high 55 low 40 Sat-FEW showers high 59 low 35 Sun- Partly cloudy high 59 low 48” 5:30:30 PM 10/13/04 Give me a ride! “Hey, can someone give me + 1 a ride from Pinnacle to the trailhead on Saturday morning? Since I'm hiking the long way out I'd like my car to be at the exit.” 5:55:12 PM 10/13/04 “Is anybody heading through Dayton Friday night/Saturday morning? I have my own ride but with gas prices the way they are I'd rather carpool. So far the two people I've contacted have been down on their luck and can't make the trip now. Any help would be great. My only problem is that I have to head back on Sunday so I can make work the next morning.” 6:39:17 PM 10/13/04 Jump to Page << prev
