Questioning England gave impetus to start our great country... questioning a life without our fill of nature led most of us to backpacking... and then, of course, there was that all important question: "Say, do you think we could have a restaurant where girls show their cleavage, wear the shortest of skirts and flirt with customers, all under bright lights in what we'll call a 'family atmosphere'??!!"

And thus Hooters was born. It was quite a concept. LOL! hmmm... wasn't there discussion on here about an equivalent restaurant for us females?? Yeah, I think Tango was gonna run it......”

“I've seen some posts where people are staying at various campgrounds. The web site said Martin's Fork was already secured so I was wondering if most of TT attendees would be there or elsewhere?”

“J, we will all be at Martin's Fork on Saturday night. On Thursday and Friday we stay in town. Are you coming to this one?”

“Yeah, I was driving through the Gap today on my way back home and asked my wife about it. It looks like it will be a family trip and my wife works Friday night so I won't be there until noon on Saturday. I needed to make sure I show up to the right place : )”

“Oh yeah? Sweet...are you guys all gonna hike/shuttle up to Martin's Fork Saturday? Let me tell ya...that 7.5 mile hike is a doozy! A real buttkicker...but the views are awesome! I'm gonna stay Sunday night as well. If you can get the time off and want a ride back to Dayton I got your back...just let me know.”

“We'll have to do the shuttle. I'd be up for the hike but we won't be there until around noon so most of my day would be shot hiking. I'd probably hit the sack once I got back to camp and ruin the only night I'll be able to spend with the group. I'm going to be leaving on Sunday though. I'm trying to save leave up for an extended vacation and a few other things I have planned next year.”

“Titanium Chef backcountry cookoff IV will be held October 15, 16 at Martin's Fork backcountry campsite within the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park located in Cumberland Gap Tennessee. This year Titanium Chef IV (TCIV) is hosted by the Heritage Trails Festival In Cumberland Gap.

There will activities in the Town of Cumberland Gap as well as the Titanium Chef backcountry cookoff. Titanium Chef is a free event to those who simply wish to view the cookoff. The only fees are if you wish to participate in the actual cookoff competition. Please see the register section for more details. Permits have been secured for all who wish to camp at Martin's Fork to view the Titanium Chef Backcountry Cookoff.”

“Titanium Chef Prizes and Categories
Overall, First, Second, and Third prizes will be awarded to the best dishes. Judges will be looking at creativity, BP feasibility, and just plain good taste. Prizes will also be awarded for the following categories.


GA -> ME a la AT (Most Practical) – This meal is ideal for a long-distance hiker. After putting in a high mileage day, a hiker will need essential carbs and vitamins; however, even though it’s practical, doesn’t mean it can’t be creative!
Tasmanian Devil Dish (Most Spiciest) – This meal is eccentric in its use of spice whether it’s spicy hot with jalapeno or spicy rich with curry.
BP Elite (Gourmet) – This meal is for the trail elitist who arranges plastic wine glasses and tablecloth on a tree stump (not a requirement). This is generally though of as a first-night meal where you backpack in perishables, or a winter-backpack meal where warm climates will not ruin fresh meat or seafood.
Neanderthal Delight (Most Primitive) – This meal is… well, primitive. Foods or meats cooked over an open fire, etc. Use your imagination.”

“In case no one else has mentioned it, one should always open each zipper a little, when the pack is removed. I have made it a habit. This applies even in shelters in the daylight. The mice love treats. If the mice smell something good, they will get to it, but they will look for an easy entrance first.”

“Just tested out one of our recipes for this weekend. Yummy! Watch out. The trophy wants to stay in Nashville!”

“i did open all the zippers so they wouldn't chew through the backpack..they then gnawed through sil-nylon and 2 thick ziplock bags...i'm hanging this year...not putting CRAP in that cabin..it does have 4-6 bunks...smells like butt, is kinda damp, and nastier than the leconte shelter during high use.”

“OPIE - Sorry about the damage.

Mice know a lot of tricks. One even forced his way until he opened the tent zipper enough to slip in and run up, across, down and back out of my tent. After too many experiences, I now set mouse traps in the front seat and in the trunk of the car, when parked at a trailhead or a campground. This has resulted in a number of mice departing to mice heaven!”

“There are BIGGER pests to worrry about in CG...they have bears.......at the park in town they had bear proof trash cans......”

“Divinity -- when I went down to get water, there was bear scat at Martin's Fork. I may have taken a picture of it, not sure.”

I will not be camping out this year but will be at the B-BQ on Friday. Then I am off Sat. night to usher for the Bluegrass concert at LMU. “I didn't take a picture of it, but I saw bear scat on the trail/road between the parking area where the shuttle dropped us off and the open area at Hensley. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to scare the women and kids that came along. (It was in the middle of the trial and everyone walked around it!) We left out all kinds of food (popcorn) on the picnic table at Martin's Fork last year. We didn't have any bears that I know of except that loud noise during the night! I would strongly advise hanging your food, toiletries, or anything that smells good or bad. LOL Ya'll have a great trip. Hope to see ya next year.”

“Hey, can someone give me + 1 a ride from Pinnacle to the trailhead on Saturday morning? Since I'm hiking the long way out I'd like my car to be at the exit.”

“Is anybody heading through Dayton Friday night/Saturday morning? I have my own ride but with gas prices the way they are I'd rather carpool. So far the two people I've contacted have been down on their luck and can't make the trip now. Any help would be great. My only problem is that I have to head back on Sunday so I can make work the next morning.”
