Anybody see this show...
...last night on FX. It's the new one that Denis Leary co-wrote about the FDNY. Leary, himself, this week donated over a half million dollars for a new high tech vehicle for the FDNY. He said that people give him money because he's a celebrity, so he asked the department what they wanted and they wound up with this new firefighting tool. Pretty cool thing for him to do, I think.

So, in the show, he is a fire captain that is still fighting the 9/11 demons internally. Matter of fact, he talks to them much like Nate talked to his dead father in 'Six Feet Under'. Stormbringer and I watched it last night and I thought it was really good! Anybody else see it?

I was going to watch it, but ended up tuning in the middle. I hate to watch stuff from the middle, so I skipped it. Anybody know when they are repeating the first episode?

I don't know, Bit, but they aired it again at 11 right after it. That info is, of course, useless now...

In Penny Lane there is a fireman with an hourglass
And in his pocket is a portrait of the Queen.
He likes to keep his fire engine clean,
It’s a clean machine.

I caught that flick -- looked pretty interesting, and I like Denis Leary as well. I thought it was a very good introspective into the blue-collared life in New York and heroism vs. day-to-day survival. It'll be interesting to see where they go with this...

The coming attrations looked pretty good with some interesting directions for plot lines. I am going to watch it again on Wednesday and hope it stays on track. Curious to hear any FDNY folks' opinions on it. From what I read beforehand, they were collectively looking forward to seeing it and said that, knowing Denis Leary, they expected him to keep it real!

I like Denis Leary, but sometimes he's funny and sometimes he's not. I can't believe he personally donated a half a million. I don't think he makes that kind of money to make a donation like that. It wreeks of a publicity stunt to me, but who cares as long as it helped the fire dept.

This show sounds too serious for me. If it brings back thoughts of 9/11, I definitely don't want to watch it. I already watched all the suffering, the real life stories, and that movie that's on DVD about 9/11. I don't want to see it as entertainment. 9/11 is in the news, and will alwyas be in the news if I want to read about it again.

LH, are you always this cynical about people? Maybe he actually did a good thing for someone...

I agree. The bottom line is that the Dept got something it needs, however. What's sad is that they had to get it through a donation.

Treebeard, no, I wouldn't call myself cynical about people, especially since I live in WA State, and I see so many people here helping other people and critters in need. The outpouring of time, energy, and money is amazing.

I meant no offense, LH. Just seemed that way at the time. It's just a TV program, that's all. I just read an article about some firefighters in New York and they had some good things to say about him. The same way Steve Buscemi went back to his old unit after 9/11, but as act not quite of the same magnitude. Check out this link. I think what this guy did was remarkable and he shunned any form of publicity over it.

Actually, Mark-O, some of the banter between the firefighters is absolutley hilarious, so there is a lot of comedy mixed in with the drama. I was just saying that leary is not primarily just a wise ass firefighter as a character definition...

I hope I can watch the second on DVD BEFORE the thrid season starts and watch the third on TV.

Any of that make sense? LOL

The new season starts pretty soon I think. I said it here before: IMHO the best TV show I've ever seen. You can run through every emotion possible in one show. The funny parts are a f'n scream.
