LOL @ lumberzac! Luckily, I didn't fall. Crossing that log was definitely tricky as heck. If you look closely, you can see that the semi-flat, ridged surface is about 45 degrees off. That made it a challenge. I crossed it three times scooting on my knees and shins before I worked up the nerve to do it standing up on the fourth attempt. It was fun though.

Artex and Pissy Pennsy,

Wow! ...them pictures! Excellent weather! Enjoyed reading the reports and comments. Funny log-tilt shots. Great facial expressions. Excellent vistas!

Artex: Welcome back to the northeast! ...jello legs, eh? HA! ...serves ya right ...leaving us for them flatlands. Is that a mullet protruding from under your head-bandana there? Are they back in style now? I've always liked Pennsy's hairdo ...a man after my own heart head.

Artex and Pennsy
I chatted with SB last night about the invite for the catskills, and I suggested to her that this may a bit of a guy trip you were putting together.

She about threw me out of the house.... er.... I mean she was very encouraging towards me to go for it! She said she'd probably hold us back.

Send me some info on these weekenders, I just may be able to get one in!! That thing about me getting ready to build a house is just a ruse to keep me off the trail. Summer's half over and I ain't been anywhere yet.....

Well actually, let's see now, there was Chicago, and Mexico, and.......

Hey, what weekend? I must have deleted the invite, LOL!

Monkeyboy, sometime in the month of August, I'd like to at least dayhike up Mt. Washington. Skiracer expressed interest in this as well. Consider joining us! That and Katahdin are all I have on the radar next month. The rest of the time I'll be getting ready for the new school year.

MSilver, ha ha ha! It does look like a mullet in that phto. Buy rest assured, my hair is all one length.

My oh my, anxious climber of everything in sight! Mt. Washington is just a thought at this point, albeit a serious one. Things will be totally wishy washy with me for the next month or two, but I'll try to nail down a date soon. You can always get in touch with skiracer and plan something concrete, and I'll try to make it.

OMG can you say wet'n wild??? I'd really have a hard time with that crossing. Can you swim across that??? :) I'm a pretty good swimmer :) JK Other than that looks like it was a great trip. I love the pic of Slide, from Cornell. That just looks picture perfect with the whispy clouds and all.

Artex your such a cad!! You guys rock. Can't wait for Baxter.

Sounds like a great trip! And I'm not just saying that, either. Okay, I am just saying that. Just kidding. No I'm not. Nice pics, too! Next time you cross that treacherous log, bring 14' trekking poles with you, it'll help a lot. Yer welcome.

Dang, why didn't we think of that?? I knew I could count on Buck for solid advice. ;o)

Bobo - nah, you didn't miss yet another invite. There isn't another Catskills trip planned yet, but soon there will be. I got to scout around the Neversink and there are some great campsites that would make good bases to tackle Balsam Cap, Friday, Lone, and Rocky Mts. None of these have marked trails to the summits, so you'll be the first to be invited. With me relying on map and compass, I'll no doubt get lost, but if Bobo is there, I know I won't go hungry.

Pixie - awww, don't listen to those silly people talking about me and spring whizzing. However, everytime I stand on Wittenberg, and look down at the Ashokan Reservoir, which supplies drinking water to New York City, I am so tempted to do you know what, then call Mapleleaf that night and ask her how her water tasted that day.

Excellennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnt
Nice pics! I hope to see those sights someday.

And I've had for the longest time a CD with pics from Pharoah Lakes Wilderness '03 and West Rim Trail '03 having the name Pennsy on it. One of these days I'll get it to ya. 8)

Wow Buddur, those 2 trips bring back some fond memories. Talk about different seasons though... it was minus 19 at Pharoah, and about 90 on the West Rim. I'd love to see those pics.

You'd love the Catskills too. Smaller than the Dacks, but hiking is awesome, and more importantly, less crouded than the ADK High Peaks. Plus, similiar to the ADK 46'ers, the Catskills 35'ers have many peaks with unmarked trails. Right up your bushwhacking alley.

Actually, I think the Catskill 35 is harder than the Adirondacks -- many more bushwhacks, with no herd paths, mind you -- some on private property, or at least can only be accessed thru private property -- and I believe the Catskill 35 Club requires 4 of the peaks (they are 4 set peaks -- I forget which ones) to be done in the winter.

I don't think ADK46 has a winter requirement, but rather a separate winter designation.

Of course if you want a really hard set to do, try the ADK100. MacNaughton is kind of tame compared to some of the bushwhacks involved for that list.

Is that the 3000-ft designation?
PhantomSoul

No it's just the 100 highest. There's about 160+/- over 3000. I've heard that the trailless ADK100 and Catskill 35 peaks are much like the early 46ers. Back when the trailless peaks we pretty much true bushwhacks.

Winter 46ers indeed ...my brother Joe is one ...all 46 done during winter months.

And then there's the Jog 46ers, the Barefoot 46ers, the Backwards 46ers, and of course the Nude 46ers.
