The Phantom Arrives (Finally)...
Ok, so we finally have a trip thread now -- I gotta tell ya, it was a struggle not to post Sunday morning...

Anyway, I got to the trailhead at about 9:30 Saturday morning after shooting Maple a quick email telling her I'd be there (which she apparently never got), so surprise, surprise -- after she got there like a hour later (and I thought I was running really late).

Anyway, we determined that the cars could not be left at the county park overnight, so we took Whitewater's car and the Treemobile to the next trailhead about 5 miles up the highway, leaving my car at the county park, which now made an excellent jump-out point for the afternoon.

Once we got to the other trailhead, we geared up and set out. Amdist all the reminiscing about the previous weekend at Ithaca, we completely missed the trail turn-off of the woods road and had to backtrack about 1/2 a mile to the trail; fortunately it was mostly flat so I didn't feel too bad.

When the trail started to rise a bit, I got ahead of the girls, and decided to wait for them at a really nice lookout I came across, and could tell when they were coming because I could hear Maple's pottymouth from 3 ridges away ;)

We ate lunch at the at that vista and were visited by a gigantic beetle. Afterwards we headed off -- a few ups and down -- some very steep, but not long -- a few nice lookouts -- and soon we arrived at the shelter, where the ladies proceeded to set up camp.

Soon, we headed out to the lake, me taking all my stuff as I would not be back to camp. The original plan was to go to the lake for a -- how you say -- dip but, alas, it was already getting too late (wouldn't you know it with my luck?). I gotta tell you, I did think about staying -- but I didn't bring any overnight gear, and no one offered to share ;) So, alas, a disappointed Phantom headed home 2 miles back to his car. I did however get to see and photograph a Copperhead Rattlesnake right by the trailhead down at the county park -- very cool.

Pictures here.

PS - So, ladies when are we doing this again. If you're good, I promise I'll stay overnight this time...

Apparently Mr. Soul skipped over the trip report by Whitewater LOL!

Actually, I did read Whitewater's report, but chose to ignore it, being that I thought it was kinda harsh. However, fact is that Whitewater apparently made the same wrong turn we did, and we did try to locate (read SAR) her (to no avail) before turning back. But then again, who am I to judge, or get involved in that matter? Just my $0.02.

Well, now that that's out of the bag (pardon the pun), LOL AT ARTEX!!!! You're so bad!

Yep, PhantomSoul.
Best to ignore it, learn from it, and move on.

LOL Artex

well whitewater sorry you feel that way.I said what i had to say in private.

But I will say this and only this on the matter here,
you hike with a group and you do not have a map, stick with the group or at least get a good understanding of where you are before you take off on your own. You got lost and opted to hike back out was very smart.

Phantom - great report and pictures! Beautiful shot of the snake. It was really nice meeting you and hopefully we'll hike together again in the future.

Maple - where are your pictures? We need to identify that salamander...and spider.

How about this for the soundtrack album....

Ezekiel cried, "Dem dry bones!"
Ezekiel cried, "Dem dry bones!"
Ezekiel cried, "Dem dry bones!"
"Now hear ye the word of the Lord!"

The foot bone connected to the leg bone,
The leg bone connected to the knee bone,
The knee bone connected to the thigh bone,
The thigh bone connected to the back bone,
The back bone connected to the neck bone,
The neck bone connected to the head bone,
Now hear ye the word of the Lord!

Dem bones, dem bones gonna walk aroun'
Dem bones, dem bones, gonna walk aroun'
Dem bones, dem bones, gonna walk aroun'
Now hear ye the word of the Lord!

The head bone connected to the neck bone,
The neck bone connected to the back bone,
The back bone connected to the thigh bone,
The thigh bone connected to the knee bone,
The knee bone connected to the leg bone,
The leg bone connected to the foot bone,
Oh, hear ye the word of the Lord!
