A couple times, I have posted a mathematical formula for estimating your calorie consumption while backpacking. Recently, I found a site which does calorie calculations automatically. If you choose "extremely active" on the calculator you get results very close (within 20 - 40 calories) to the mathematical formula I gave.

The site is http://www.1is2fat.com/basal_metabolic_rate_calculator.htm

cool link.

There is no way I can eat the number of calories it suggests.

Must be the formula used by the makers of MRE's.

I lose a little weight going by those calculations on a week or more of backpacking.
