Mt Morrison Dayhike (12,268'), Mammoth L akes (CA)View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 18 of 18 messages posted.
“Spent time at the condo in Mammoth this weekend. Slept in Saturday, then went for an easy hike around Mammoth Pass on Saturday. Sunday we dayhiked Mt Morrison (12,268') from Convict Lake (9,700'), up the East Slope Variation and down the East Slope. Rewarding views from the top! Mt Morrison dayhike ” 7:48:26 AM 8/05/04 “I like Photo # 42 the best!” 10:45:44 AM 8/05/04 Nice. Sounds relaxing. “Hey Snownymph. How tall are you? I'm thinking of getting the coolio chair and am wondering if I wouldn't need the headrest either. I'm 5'5" and my upperbody is about 29 inches tall.” 1:54:11 PM 8/05/04 “Not sure exactly how tall Snow is (5'-1"??), but I'm a bit under 6' and I found the chair comfortable without the headrest.” 2:05:33 PM 8/05/04 “Geez, I wonder why! (Bowlderman). Your name was brought up a lot on that trip, especially after I watched a boulder come at me (seemed to take forever), and had to concentrate on which way it was going to bounce. Brought back memories . . . Pixie, I'm 4'11". The chair is comfortable. You'll love it!” 2:54:02 PM 8/05/04 “OK, the 5' 1" was with 2" hiking boots?” 3:39:41 PM 8/05/04 snownymph “You are a little tiny lady! I think I am going to order that chair. I've been deliberating over it for a month!” 5:11:18 PM 8/05/04 “Wow, another great adventure and excellent pics! I see Mt. Morrison pretty much every weekend as I drive Hwy. 395, but I've never climbed that sucker. It's such a magestic peak in grand country!” 6:03:42 PM 8/05/04 “Lovely pics as always. Did you ever find out what the bags of salt were for? I love that area it is so beautiful and you did it justice with your photos! Thanks. How long, and what was the mileage about?” 6:40:40 PM 8/05/04 “Nice pic and trip report... A Day Hike??? LOL” 6:57:52 PM 8/05/04 “report and pics were much enjoyed Snownymph. Thanks for sharing. Looks like you bagged some great peaks. I was looking into making a trip to NM this fall to do some hiking around Wheeler Peak. I may wait till next year to get out west though.” 7:06:51 PM 8/05/04 “ What were you drinking at #57? 7:46:00 PM 8/05/04 Beautiful Pics “Mt. Mojo Risinnnnnnnnnnnn. Got to keep on risinnnnnnnnnnn.” 8:18:41 PM 8/05/04 “Buck, Before we got married, SnowDude and I snowboarded from Nov-Jun. We would camp in Long Valley, and Morrison was our morning view, every Saturday and Sunday. Morrison was on our "to do" list for a few years now. It was worth it! There was a register entry from a couple that brought their dog, Smokey. Smokey fell a few times and cut his paws, so they tied him up at the saddle. They continued to the summit and were signing in, when Smokey ran up to them! EPIC views! Its fun looking around and pointing out the peaks you've been on, and then picking out the peaks to do next. Convict Canyon has some of the oldest rock in the Sierra. And colorful! The raging water from Genevieve Lake into Convict Canyon could be heard clearly from the summit. It was hard to leave.” 1:11:07 AM 8/06/04 “Tango, Don't know what the salt was for. Someone thought it looked like salt used on the slopes to maintain solid snow for jumps and halfpipes in terrain parks, but it was in the middle of the brush, with no trails! Wierd! This trip was off trail, so not sure of the mileage. TH is at 7,600', Mt Morrison is 12,268'. (TYPO in original post!) I saw somewhere it was 4 miles (via East slope?) but we took the East Slope Variation because it cut off 1/2 mile. We lost time on the steep slope just before the saddle that connected both routes. Bowlderman came to mind around this area. I yelled to SnowDude that he better have good insurance on me. After a few close calls, I decided to not follow him. WLD Yes, A lonnnngggg dayhike. We went back to the condo, showered, packed up and drove home. A lonnnnggg drive home. And a lonnnnggg day at work on Monday. EarthNSky Come out and we'll go hiking! Nowslimmer, #57?” 1:20:35 AM 8/06/04 Nice photos Cori! “I like the panos...where you have named all of the paeks...Kewl!” 1:23:50 AM 8/06/04 Snow Nymph “upon closer inspection it is "A full register!" At first glance I thought that it was a soda can in the picture. Enjoyed all your pictures.” 5:28:51 AM 8/06/04 “I agree with you Wind Walker. Thanks Snownymph! Oh by the way I will hopefully be out your way next year sometime. Maybe I can make up for last time.” 8:18:14 AM 8/06/04
