When I hiked the southern half in the spring, there were small creeks every hour. Each of those streams were marked on the map with a dashed blue line. No water caches were necessary then. If you get enough rain in southern Indiana, my guess is that many of those streems will have filterable water over Labor Day week end.

I just added myself as a maybe for this trip assuming nobody minds a Michigan person joining this trip. I will be firm up my trip commitment early next week. Assuming all works out I will look forward to meeting you and checking out southern Indiana.

If you guys are willing to make the drive to Dayton I can take you the rest of the way. It's not much of a consilation but it's the best I can do. I'll be renting an economy so I'm limited to 2 passengers with gear. let me know if I need to wait around.

I ordered my first GPS unit a few days ago. It should come in a few days before this trip. I ordered a Garmin eTrex Vista C ( http://www.garmin.com/products/etrexVistac/ ) and the US Topo 1:100K software. I did not order any higher detailed maps.

Any ideas on what data I can have ready for it so I can use it in Knobstone?

I'm kind lost on how to use a GPS.

jerbear - the only online maps I know of are linked on the trip page. A bit large but that's all I have other than the paper map I got a while back. If you want I'll try and scan it. It will most likely be in two sections though since the map is rather large. Who knows, it might be better.

Chin Music - Not sure I can help much with that. I don't see any waypoints on the map and my topo software doesn't show the trail. Dub may be able to help.

I am an eastsider just North of Detroit. I was planing on flying down and landing in Sellersburg(about 15 miles from trail head) then picking up a car from there. If you are interested email me and I could stop by Kalamazoo airport and pick you up(about 1:45 flight to Sellersburg from Kalamazoo) This does make my trip participation very weather dependent thou.

Has there been any more thought about where on the trail people will be staying Friday night?

For those that will not be able to meet up with the main group on Friday night, is the plan to still meet at the Jackson Rd. TH first thing Saturday morning?

How about thoughts on camp sites for Saturday and Sunday nights?

Prosecutor said around 9.8 and 21.25 there were some decent campsites. That leaves the day's pretty evenly spaced with the distance. A short hike out on Monday. I'm going to be hiking in on Friday night to the 1-mile marker and looking for a spot to sleep. I'll just dayhike back to the parking lot and meet everybody there around 8? We can cache water and shuttle everybody then.

Those sounded like good sites to me also. I didn't want to hijack the itinerary if you had different plans though.

We will all meet at the Deam Lake Trailhead Saturday morning 8AM eastern. Cool beans.

I've never been there so my hike would have consisted of just scoping out a good site after I felt I'd hiked enough. The distances he stated were good so I figure what the hell. No sense in screwing ourselves out of a good site if somebody's already done all the work.
Silent J

I have a map enroute, via snail mail. should make it in time. I will bring 5 gallons of water to cache. However I will call tommorrow to see if anyone knows of the water availiabilty on the trail is plentyful or not.I will most likly hike in a bit and camp friday as well. c ya, yo bear!

I think it should take me about 2.5 hours so I'm figuring to be there between 9:00 - 9:30. I'm penciling that in though. You've seen how off I was on the last trip. If Salem is going to be there at 6:00 then I'll just figure on walking in until I come across somebody.

I plan on getting the the TH at 6pm also and meet up with Salem. We can then be on the lookout for the others as they arrive.

This trip is looking do-able for me, so I am switching from a maybe to a go.
I plan on ariving at the Dream Lake TH between 7:00-9:00pm depending on when I get out of work etc. Looks like everyone is camping at about the 1 mile marker on Friday. Did anyone find out about the water avaibility on the trail or will we have to cache?
ChinMusic you have mail.

Well, I don't know what your schedule is but I work downtown. If you want to come down and run it through Kinko's around the corner your more than welcome. You can take it home, etc. if you can run a copy there. Just bring it with you on the trip. Anyway, I'm at work from 8am - 5pm. After that I'm on the bus, getting a car, and heading out of town.
