Check it out.....
Even though I read the books a long time ago I still remember they were hysterical. The movie is going to have Mos Def and John Malkovich in it as well. I recommend saving the trailer rather than stream it. Also, it's an avi but I had to open it with the VLC player due to Windows Media alway's wanting a damn codec that it can never find.

Oh don't give me none more of that Old Janx Spirit
No, don't you give me none more of that Ol' Janx Spirit
For my head will fly
My tongue will lie
My eyes will fry
And I may die...

Won't you pour me one more of that sinful Ol' Janx Spirit!

let me rephrase. i dont think its even going to come close. it looks like its all about the visuals and none of the goofy nerdy humor of the book.

I am looking forward to seeing this. I read a couple of reviews this morning, both of which said that the movie actually kept in spirits of the author's intent in the book (for the most part). Might be worth a look-see!

The two reviews I read today were only lukewarm. The one review only gave it a C. Looking forward to hearing what you guys think of it.

I listened to it on audio and loved it.

Am I a republican? I take the 5th. This is a chatter thread that can easily turn into a fuego thread:)

Here is the link to reviews on yahoo:

http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&cf=info&id=1808411970

If you can't get the link it's B- by yahoo critics and B by yahoo users. What brought it to a B- was Roger Ebert who gave it a C. He said you have to read the book to really get it, and even at that, he wasn't crazy about it. He said he didn't get the joke, whatever that means.

I think if anything, it looks like a unique premise and interesting.

I saw it, it was okay. They skipped a lot of what was in the book and changed only minor things. You might not know exactly what's going on unless you've read the book, "Don't forget your towel." Be sure to stick around through the credits, they have extra stuff in the credits...I didn't stay until the credits were over though.

If you haven't read the books:

You will find the movie tiresomely twee, and notice that it obviously thinks it is being funny at times when you do not have the slightest clue why that should be. You will sense a certain desperation as actors try to sustain a tone that belongs on the page and not on the screen. And you will hear dialogue that preserves the content of written humor at the cost of sounding as if the characters are holding a Douglas Adams reading.

It was funny at times but not the best movie ever. I didn't walk out of the theater thinking I wasted my money though. It was obvious that most of the people in the theater were fans of the books and just wanted to see a big screen version. It's like being a doctor who fan. Most people just don't get it, but those who do can't seem to get enough.

Well, I'm glad to hear that HHGTTG wasn't too bad...

I read the book about 20years ago... Thought it was funny--I hope the movie's decent... And, I never listen to Movie Reviewers, because they don't usually go for the goofy fun movies....

Almost went to see it yesterday for Thinkbubelz' birthday! :-)

pink, by husband doesn't like to go by reviewers, but I do to a certain extent.

Hostage with Bruce Willis didn't get a great review, but I thought it was pretty good.

One of my all-time favorite movies is"Galaxy Quest". I don't know what the reviewers gave it, but as a person who knows a number of huge "Trekkies", I thought it was very funny (without resorting to tons of swearing and violence.)

I loved Galaxy Quest. Have seen it at least 10 times LOL. been awhile though, maybe I'll pick it up tonight.

One of the previews I saw before HHGG looked like a Galaxy Quest rip off.

HHGTTG is more like an adult Dr. Seuss. Just silly for no reason. I love the bit where Mos Def (Ford Prefect) is chasing the Vogons with the towel and they're like, "Ahhh, he has a towel!"

I have the complete Guideon cassette. Nothing personal to you guys down there (our Cousins to the South), but when I saw that it was an American production I decided to wait and see what you guys said. Also, I don't believe Americans can translate Brit hunour (can you say Mr. Bean?).

I think I'll go with SilentJ (who must have at least a bit of Canuck sensibilities with a name like that) and pass on the movie.

Hi div!

Movies are rairly as good as the books.
I've read reviews of this one that say the movie is hard to understand if you have not read the book.
I enjoyed the book way back when, but I'll wait till this comes out on DVD and rent it.

Okay, I saw the movie. What is the reason for the towel????

Someone mentioned this before, but the movie continues into the credits, so don't leave right away.

Don't theaters leave a low light on during the movies???? I know this special theater I saw this movie in was totally dark. I kept nodding off and think I actually slept through half the movie. The half I did see was funny, imaginative and the special effects were phenominal.

I love the part where if they came up with ideas, those things would pop out of the ground and hit them. That was so funny!!!! I'm not giving anything away since I saw that in coming attractions and no one will know what it means until they see the movie.

read the book if you want to know more about the towels... It is mainly humoristic, its part of what they would call a hitchikers survival kit, maybe Adams (the author) loved towels...

He probably walked from the beach to the ice cream shop on the other side of the hot asphalt and was cursing himself for fogetting his towel to stand on when he got to tha asphalt.

lips, lips, lips.... ;-)

A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta…wet it for use in hand-to-hand combat…wrap it around your head to ward off noxious fumes…any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the Galaxy, rough it … win through, and still know where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

hyway, well, Ebert did say it would help to read the book to understand the movie.

stove, so I guess it really comes down to personal preference, because everyone places a certain value on certain items and we all don't agree on what the value may be. Knee pads are not valued unless you garden, are a catcher, or .......work on your knees for other purposes.

Anyway, I saw the movie with my wife last night. It was a pleasant diversion, nothing more. Glad I only spent 4 bucks to see it.
