Camping above Marmot Pass in June of 2000. Mt Deception in the center distance. This is one of the finest hikes in the Olympic mountains. From Marmot Pass there is a trail that leads to the summit of Buckhorn Mountain and even bigger views. Very rewarding views for a relatively easy hike.

Behold Buckhorn Mountain! (summit on the right) Again, an easy hike, no clibing invloved with this one. Notice how bare the ground is here in the rainshadow of the Olympics.

The view looking west from the summit of Buckhorn. Mt. Mystery on the left, Mt Deception on the right. Deception is second highest only to Mt. Olympus in the Olympics. On a clear day yo can see much of Puget Sound and the Straight of Juan De Fuca. Amazing view. I could even pick out downtown Seattle with the naked eye.

Another view from the summit looking back down the way you came up. Marmot Pass below. Note that this hike is snow free much sooner than many parts of the Olympics.

Mt. Townsend is in the upper right corner of the pic. Both Townsend and Buckhorn are great dayhikes.
