light system “"Gear question: What do folks use for headlights on their bike? This has to be a real headlight that can throw a beam to seewith while riding (that is, not just a visibility light). At 5:30 it is pretty dark. When I got underway at 5:15 yesterday is was dangersouly dark. The roads i'm on are not lit. I was pretty uncomfortable. Couldn't see my odmeter to see how fast I was going, couldn see the road for hazards or nothing. Just stuck in the middle and hung on. Thankfully there were no cars (one coming towards me that really blinded me wiht its lights)."” 9:18:49 AM 8/12/04 “I got a headlight for my bike that Birch told me about. I will see if I can find a link for it. I know I bought it throught www.nashbar.com or www.performancebike.com” 9:43:47 AM 8/12/04 “I carry a 6-volt flashlight in my hand. I can swing the beam back and forth across cars approaching from the front, back and sides. (Anything to get their attention!)” 9:43:50 AM 8/12/04 “flashing red strobe for the back, Nite Rider System for headlamp. Cars think I am a motorbike coming at em.” 11:26:06 AM 8/12/04 “I definitely need a better lighting system, found that out last September in the adventure race. I used a 5-LED headlight (Cateye? not sure, but about a $30 unit) plus an Aurora headlamp on my forehead. I have weak night vision (and myopia) to begin with...but maybe it was just as well that I couldn't see all the rocks and holes I was riding over...that would have been pretty scary.” 12:05:32 PM 8/12/04
