Labor day weekend trip

“If anyone is gonna be near Grayson Highlands during the labor day weekend your welcome to come along with the Carolina's hikers for the Blueberry Massacre. The Blueberries are always ripe and ready for picking! We bring along plenty of pancake mix and syrup!
We will meet 10am on Sat Sept.5 at the Grayson Highlands parking lot for overnite hikers. Email me if your interested.”

“Is this a one or a two nighter?”

“two nights,,, there are some of the group even going in on Friday and hiking to Rhododendrum gap”

“What is the closest town? I'm looking for something to do over labor day weekend and would be coming from nashville.”

“Damascas is the closest town from your direction I believe.”

“oh that is Damascas VA”

“I was gonna go on this trip...but I think I'll be in CT for two weeks during that time. While I'll have the weekend off...I don't wanna drive to CT and the drive to VA from there would be way too far.”

“What state is Grayson Highlands in? VA, or something close to VA?”

“Southwest Virginia - rather close to the NC/TN border”

“I am not sure if I will be able to make it this year or not.

“who's going to be there Friday? I am thinking it's a good chance that I will show up and camp Friday night in my usual spot in Rhododendron Gap (down below and to the left of the spring in amoung some trees/shrubs)”

“I am going to be there, have been talking with hikingfool1 on bp.com. I was going there anyway and thought having some company instead of the usual solo would be nice. See ya there

“hoi and 2socks, Hikingfool emailed me today and looks like they plan to stay at the paid campground on Friday night then meet up no later than 10am on Sat morning to go to Rhododendrum gap.

I believe if you do go into Rhododendrum Gap on Friday nite and set up we will find you there on Sat.”

“rox thank you for the info...still need to know does your hike take you to mt rogers at all or do you go elsewhere...”

“Rhododendron Gap is an easy hike to the summit...don't expect any views because it is enclosed in a stand of Frasier fir. I just hike by it...the last time I took someone new up to Thomas Knob, which is at the trail intersection, I didn't even go up with them it is so boring.”

“As sticks says it very close to the gap area.. like 2 miles round trip I have hiked there several times , no views but very nice old forest. When we set up camp we usually can group up and hike else where. I usually do, hike extra after I rest a bit..there are gonna be a few people there so you can have your chioce of where you want to go.”

“yes i am going to try, the dr still has not released me totatlly but I don't want to miss this one”

“just hope my shoulder holds out for 5 miles..gonna have to pack much lighter”

“the closer it gets the more excited i get. I think i may go up Friday night and head out Sunday. Not sure yet on that.”

“yeah Giggles I can't decided when I want to go up either. If I can get a spot Friday night I may try that I can't get there till around 9pm or later.

“Keep in mind, if you do come on Fri. night, the park gates close at 9. I think we'll be fine on campsites, so if y'all make it, we should be able to find you a spot to crash.”

I very much want to go and I will probably be there if work doesn't grab me by the nads and holds me back. I will probably go up to rhodo gap on Friday and then day hike the rest of the weekend from rhodo base camp.”
