Daypack or add-on?

I'm considering getting either an Osprey Daylite add-on for my Aether 60, or something like a 1,200 cu in daypack.

I want a small pack for day hikes, but also for my wife when she goes on overnight back-packing trips with me.

The problem is, the Daylite seems like a great idea for my needs, but I'm not sure when she's using it if 750 cu in. is going to be enough?

I have ultra-light gear, but she doesn't. I guess we could switch gear while hiking.

I'm not really sure if 750 is enough, even for ultra-light gear. Anybody have experience with this?

750ci ain't a lot. I've got one of the 500 ci add-ons, and it's barely enough for water, lunch, and a jacket. If you're talking about her carrying everything she needs for a overnight backpack, I don't think it'll be enough.

When I backpack with my daughter, I have a daypack of about 1800ci that she carries, with her clothes, raingear, toilet kit, snack, and stuffed animal. If you're already carrying all the other stuff for your wife, a slightly larger daypack would be enough for her to carry all her clothes and food. But I don't think that 750ci would quite be enough, except maybe in the the summer.

Thanks bp. For what we need it for you've convinced me this won't do.

Looks like I'll get an add-on for myself (750) and a separate pack for her.

Gem, I didn't see it in person, just online.

Here's a link.

thanks!! after I posted the question I found it on altrec. They have a great deal right now, free shipping on everything and free one year subscription to National Geographic adventure magazine.

that's a good deal. I think I'll get it there if I go for it.

My only hesitation is I'd like something to hold the camelbak securely. Do you know if it has any inside compartments??

that's about the only problem I have with my osprey, and it bugs the crap out of me. I tie my camel bladder up inside my pack. I just now was thinking about cutting a tinny hole in my pack and then use the sowing machine to sow it like a button hole.

I don't think the addon daylite is hydration compatiable. I don't know though.

I have had my Daylite for a while and have used it a couple of times. During day hikes and in Alabama, when we bush whacked in to base camp. Worked out great. To be able to carry extra crap into base camp and then used it on the day hikes. My 9 year old daughter also uses it as her pack when going over night. I load it to about 8-10 pounds and thats about it. Thats all I like for her to carry, she has only been out maybe 4 times and I don't want to make it to hard on her. When she carries the Daylite I carry my Either 75 this allows me to carry more of the extra stuff that wont fit in the Daylite. I also have the Either 45 that I also like very much and have been using it more the others now that I carry about half the gear that I used to.

My Daylite is an older model and is not hydration compatiable.

Gemini - I called and talked to their repair dude, Jimmy.

He said they do not have any pockets inside whatsoever.

The reason I called is the side supports come thru the pack (have ever since I bought it). The rubber sheathes don't hold it properly.

They're going to fix it for free.
