The storm missed my area completely. thanks for asking!” 8:12:32 AM 8/16/04 “Power is out over a good area. Tango is probably working her tail off.” 8:23:30 AM 8/16/04 “We're good here, just a few fallen branches and tons of unwarranted stress. Hound Dog's okay, he checked in on another thread. Nowslimmer's ok too.” 9:02:40 AM 8/16/04 “That just leaves tango, who hopefully is busy working to restore power.” 9:06:12 AM 8/16/04 “So on the way to work today There was a mile long caravan of power, light and telephony trucks from further north and semis hauling lumber, truck sized generators, transformers and huge spools of cable heading south on I95.” 9:14:35 AM 8/16/04 “I saw OM posted an ok on another thread.” 9:16:34 AM 8/16/04 “I believe Coop is okay too.” 9:17:11 AM 8/16/04 “Shortly you should see trucks towing modular homes from HUD southward.” 9:17:59 AM 8/16/04 “Waiting Ken Arclite Pewter Beard Wally~ Pemsit Deanoman Coop The Flatlander Hinds Feet Trekker John Artex Reported-in or Accounted-for Hound Dog Humanpackmule Nowslimmer OM Roam Around Tango Treebait” 9:24:29 AM 8/16/04 “Tango is accounted for?” 9:25:25 AM 8/16/04 “pemsit doesn't post anymore. He's in Pensacola which is well away from that area. arclite is in Gainesville. He doesn't post much. I'll send him an email and see what I hear. He usually checks email first thing in the morning and in the evening. I'll post back when I hear something.” 9:31:40 AM 8/16/04 9:37:42 AM 8/16/04 “yup Tango checked in Sat. She made it fine, very minor damage to her home. Said her rental took a tree fall though. No injuries. No power either though.” 9:38:10 AM 8/16/04 “I thought Tango was up in the panhandle? Guess not.” 9:38:58 AM 8/16/04 “Thanks NS. One good thing about being backpackers is that it's easier to cope with power outages.” 9:47:59 AM 8/16/04 “Waiting Arclite Artex Coop Cyndee Deanoman Hinds Feet Ken Pewter Beard The Flatlander Trekker John Wally~ Reported-in or Accounted-for Hound Dog Humanpackmule Nowslimmer OM Pemsit Roam Around Tango Treebait"” 9:51:39 AM 8/16/04 “Artex has moved to Maine. He's off that list. I have not seen most of the others post much, if at all, lately.” 9:52:53 AM 8/16/04 Coop here “Thanks for the concern. I live on a formerly treelined street in Downtown Orlando and my neighborhood streets got nailed but the houses were spared. The Coop family is fine, but we are without power. We've been jonesing for some AC, tv and an internet connection. I'm here at work enjoying 2 of the three. She coop took the girls to my sister's place that has AC. It turns out that my gear box doubles as a hurricane preparedness kit. Head lamps, batteries, little radio - and most exciting to my neighbors - coffee! Looking forward to hearing from the other Floridians. Three large oaks fell in our neighbor's yard, we could feel the ground shake when they landed - we were all huddled in the hallway with a radio and mattresses at the ready - we told my 2 year old we were "camping" and she had a great time. I'll have pics of the neighborhood when power comes back up. It really just looks like every other street they show on the news.” 9:58:19 AM 8/16/04 “Any TT'ers in SW Florida? Much uglier scene down there.” 10:04:21 AM 8/16/04 “I think Trekker John moved to West Virginia or was in the process of doing so.” 10:10:59 AM 8/16/04 “Hound Dog is down that way - he checked in safe and sound, sans power though.” 10:12:27 AM 8/16/04 “arclite lives in gainesville. i had called my son from wyoming and he said gainesville hardly got anything....and that was verified when i picked up my dog who was staying with a friend in gainesville .... maybe arclite is away” 10:18:58 AM 8/16/04 “I'd be surprised if Hinds' Feet checks in, she hasn't posted on the board in more than a year. I do hope she and her family are ok.” 10:23:28 AM 8/16/04 Remember - we had two storms. “Waiting Arclite Cyndee Deanoman Hinds Feet Ken Pewter Beard The Flatlander Trekker John(moved to WV ?) They got some pretty nasty weather there, but have reported that their trailer survived OK.” 10:33:31 AM 8/16/04 fl BPers “i am fine...down near jupiter. we got nothing. have family in orlando. they dont expect to get power for several more days. storm followed I-4 corridor pretty much. they would all be without power.” 10:50:12 AM 8/16/04 “glad you guys are all ok...i was thinking about you!” 11:35:43 AM 8/16/04 “Hey Guys Glad someone cares about me. Nowslimmer emailed me letting me know you guys were worried about us Florida people. I was actually South of the storm. We never even got any bad weather. I sat on my screened patio Friday and watched the news most of the afternoon and evening. I have been running around like crazy. My In-Laws who are not very mobile due to health reasons have been without power. We had to get them moved get a generator over to their house etc. They were lucky. Just lost one tree no house damage. They now have power. I have family in several cities in Florida. None were really hurt by the storm. Some have been a few days without power, but thats about it. It is amazing how I had very little bad weather and places about a two hour drive from me are so badly damaged.” 3:53:46 PM 8/16/04 “Waiting Arclite Cyndee Hinds Feet Ken Pewter Beard Tammy(Lives near Ocala NF) Wally~ Reported-in or Accounted-for Artex(moved north) Coop Deanoman Hound Dog Humanpackmule Nowslimmer OM Pemsit Roam Around Tango The Flatlander Treebait" Trekker John - moved to WV” 3:59:38 PM 8/16/04 “I am planning a dayhike in the Wekiva River basin (Seminole State Forest) to see what the trees look like through that area. I've been telling myself that I want to do some trail maintenance here in Central Florida. My guess is that the Florida Trail Assoc. Central Florida Chapter is going to have their hands full and need all the help they can get. Gojo?” 4:30:27 PM 8/16/04 Safe & Sound “We winter in Largo (Tampa Bay), but spend six months away, leaving our travel-trailer on site while we spend time near our grandkids. We just spoke to our neighbor and everyone and everything is fine there. Our heart goes out to those who lost their homes and to those who lost family and friends.” 5:25:34 PM 8/16/04 “My grampa lives in Port Charlotte but, fortunately, he was here, in Michigan, visiting during the storm. The news reports I've been hearing say that Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda bore the brunt of it, eh? Our cousins, near grampas place, are OK. But, they said his home suffered some damage and they are headed over there w/ some plywood and such to board up what they can until he can get home to assess the damage. He's old...so I'm thinking I may offer him a few of my weekdays next week to fly down there with him and give him a hand cleaning stuff up.” 6:26:01 PM 8/16/04 “That a real bummer, tarabull. Hope that nothing is lost and that he has insurance. Have a safe trip. I plan to leave for GSMNP soon. Otherwise, I would offer to help, if needed. Send me an e-mail, if there are complications needing quick attention. Hopefully, your relatives have the situation under control.” 6:52:48 PM 8/16/04 “Thanks NS. It's just stuff, tho, ya know? I'm just glad he was here and not there when it happened. The house can be fixed or replaced. Or heck, maybe he'll just decide to move back to Michigan. :-)” 6:56:29 PM 8/16/04 “Yes, his area took a severe pounding. One report I heard said that every power line pole from the west coast inland for over 50 miles was either broken or leaning.” 6:59:56 PM 8/16/04 “that should have said every pole on this one particular highway that a fella drove down this am.” 7:00:26 PM 8/16/04 HEY ????? “How is the DELAND area that is where my Grandparents live (they hate me but i am just curios)” 7:44:41 PM 8/16/04 “Anything happen to ST Augustine? I got a cousin living there and haven't heard from him. Then again, he travels a lot and might be staying away on purpose; no need for another person to hang around if the place was hit hard.” 11:16:43 PM 8/16/04 “Tarabull...hope things work out OK for your grampa. Prayers and good thoughts for all of you... your friends and family's.” 11:21:30 PM 8/16/04 “Not sure, but St Augies probably didn't get beat up tooo badly - the path pretty much crossed over Daytona. St. Augs is far enough north that they avoided the worst of it I'd imagine. Deland probably took it on the chin about like Orlando is. Somebody chime in if they know anything specific.” 11:21:51 PM 8/16/04 “power came back for my neighborhood last night - thanks Tango! and thanks to the linemen from georgia (based in Mt. Airy, NC) that came down to help hook us back up to the grid) Deland was right in the path along the I-4 corridor. Nearly the same story there as in Orlando. I have family in Deland that did ok, but there are trees all over. HPM - concerning the mile long convoy that you saw - that's pretty cool - although it is for a serious reason - I would get a real sense of purpose, belonging, pride and comraderie if I was driving south in my work truck and was able to get in that line. When I first read your comment I thought - holy cow traffic was backed up that much - then I realized - the line exists for a very human reason.” 6:19:03 AM 8/17/04 “glad your reconnected Coop. I'm afraid the folks in Charlotte County will be seatin it out for several more days. Lots of them don't even have anything left to connect to the grid.” 7:26:49 AM 8/17/04 “My parents lost the roof off of their carport in North Port, near the Port Charlotte area. NOthing else damaged, though. I'm glad they aren't there, and I'm glad my brother and his family don't live in FL anymore either!” 8:17:36 AM 8/17/04 “Yes - in Central Florida - it is mostly inconvenience, unlike SW Florida - where it is devestation.” 8:31:09 AM 8/17/04 “It wasn't backed up. They were hauling nuts.” 8:38:18 AM 8/17/04 Some pics “ Charley on my street These were pics we took the morning after the storm went through Orlando. Like most of Central Florida we escaped the devestation that hit Southwest Florida. There are many streets that look like this right now - just thought you'd like a personal glimpse.” 12:30:12 PM 8/17/04 “arclite hasn't replied to my email. Before the weekend he said that he and his wife were taking a weekend trip.” 4:18:32 PM 8/17/04 Still NO POWER at the Tango homestead! “Hi everyone!!! Yes working, working, working!! I bought a generator so I now have refrigeration (lost all my food though) and a window unit air conditioner that I run for a few minutes to get cool then shut it off! I want to thank everyone that has prayed for us and thought good thoughts. There's still a long way to go but ya gotta love people that have no power giving to people who have even less.” 6:39:32 PM 8/18/04
