alls fine here, I don't think any of us folks down here took any real damage, all were lucky.

The storm missed my area completely.

thanks for asking!

Power is out over a good area. Tango is probably working her tail off.

We're good here, just a few fallen branches and tons of unwarranted stress. Hound Dog's okay, he checked in on another thread. Nowslimmer's ok too.

That just leaves tango, who hopefully is busy working to restore power.

So on the way to work today There was a mile long caravan of power, light and telephony trucks from further north and semis hauling lumber, truck sized generators, transformers and huge spools of cable heading south on I95.

pemsit doesn't post anymore. He's in Pensacola which is well away from that area. arclite is in Gainesville. He doesn't post much. I'll send him an email and see what I hear. He usually checks email first thing in the morning and in the evening. I'll post back when I hear something.

One good thing about being backpackers is that it's easier to cope with power outages.

Coop here
Thanks for the concern. I live on a formerly treelined street in Downtown Orlando and my neighborhood streets got nailed but the houses were spared. The Coop family is fine, but we are without power. We've been jonesing for some AC, tv and an internet connection. I'm here at work enjoying 2 of the three. She coop took the girls to my sister's place that has AC.

It turns out that my gear box doubles as a hurricane preparedness kit. Head lamps, batteries, little radio - and most exciting to my neighbors - coffee!

Looking forward to hearing from the other Floridians.

Three large oaks fell in our neighbor's yard, we could feel the ground shake when they landed - we were all huddled in the hallway with a radio and mattresses at the ready - we told my 2 year old we were "camping" and she had a great time.

I'll have pics of the neighborhood when power comes back up. It really just looks like every other street they show on the news.

Hey Guys

Glad someone cares about me. Nowslimmer emailed me letting me know you guys were worried about us Florida people.

I was actually South of the storm. We never even got any bad weather. I sat on my screened patio Friday and watched the news most of the afternoon and evening.

I have been running around like crazy. My In-Laws who are not very mobile due to health reasons have been without power. We had to get them moved get a generator over to their house etc. They were lucky. Just lost one tree no house damage. They now have power.

I have family in several cities in Florida. None were really hurt by the storm. Some have been a few days without power, but thats about it.

It is amazing how I had very little bad weather and places about a two hour drive from me are so badly damaged.

I am planning a dayhike in the Wekiva River basin (Seminole State Forest) to see what the trees look like through that area.

I've been telling myself that I want to do some trail maintenance here in Central Florida. My guess is that the Florida Trail Assoc. Central Florida Chapter is going to have their hands full and need all the help they can get.

Gojo?

Safe & Sound
We winter in Largo (Tampa Bay), but spend six months away, leaving our travel-trailer on site while we spend time near our grandkids. We just spoke to our neighbor and everyone and everything is fine there.

Our heart goes out to those who lost their homes and to those who lost family and friends.

My grampa lives in Port Charlotte but, fortunately, he was here, in Michigan, visiting during the storm. The news reports I've been hearing say that Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda bore the brunt of it, eh? Our cousins, near grampas place, are OK. But, they said his home suffered some damage and they are headed over there w/ some plywood and such to board up what they can until he can get home to assess the damage. He's old...so I'm thinking I may offer him a few of my weekdays next week to fly down there with him and give him a hand cleaning stuff up.

That a real bummer, tarabull. Hope that nothing is lost and that he has insurance. Have a safe trip.

I plan to leave for GSMNP soon. Otherwise, I would offer to help, if needed. Send me an e-mail, if there are complications needing quick attention. Hopefully, your relatives have the situation under control.

Yes, his area took a severe pounding. One report I heard said that every power line pole from the west coast inland for over 50 miles was either broken or leaning.

Anything happen to ST Augustine? I got a cousin living there and haven't heard from him. Then again, he travels a lot and might be staying away on purpose; no need for another person to hang around if the place was hit hard.

Not sure, but St Augies probably didn't get beat up tooo badly - the path pretty much crossed over Daytona. St. Augs is far enough north that they avoided the worst of it I'd imagine.

Deland probably took it on the chin about like Orlando is.

Somebody chime in if they know anything specific.

power came back for my neighborhood last night - thanks Tango! and thanks to the linemen from georgia (based in Mt. Airy, NC) that came down to help hook us back up to the grid)

Deland was right in the path along the I-4 corridor. Nearly the same story there as in Orlando. I have family in Deland that did ok, but there are trees all over.

HPM - concerning the mile long convoy that you saw - that's pretty cool - although it is for a serious reason - I would get a real sense of purpose, belonging, pride and comraderie if I was driving south in my work truck and was able to get in that line. When I first read your comment I thought - holy cow traffic was backed up that much - then I realized - the line exists for a very human reason.

glad your reconnected Coop.

I'm afraid the folks in Charlotte County will be seatin it out for several more days. Lots of them don't even have anything left to connect to the grid.

Charley on my street

These were pics we took the morning after the storm went through Orlando. Like most of Central Florida we escaped the devestation that hit Southwest Florida.

There are many streets that look like this right now - just thought you'd like a personal glimpse.

Still NO POWER at the Tango homestead!
Hi everyone!!! Yes working, working, working!!

I bought a generator so I now have refrigeration (lost all my food though) and a window unit air conditioner that I run for a few minutes to get cool then shut it off!

I want to thank everyone that has prayed for us and thought good thoughts.

There's still a long way to go but ya gotta love people that have no power giving to people who have even less.
