Unidentified backpacker
I was coming back thru US Customs from Windsor yesterday evening when my son said "Dad - Look at that license plate!" In another line creeping past me was a Honda with MI license plate BACKPKR. I was in my wife's car, but my car's plate is BAKPAKR. Just wanted to say hi to another like-minded hiker, if you are out there.

We were coming back from Lake Placid yesterday after spending time in Acadia and the White Mts. No backpacking this trip, but picked up info on the Whites, the Long Trail, and the Adirondacks. They all look good.

Bliss--
Did you DRIVE up Mt. Washington?

My hubby and I did-- it is frightening if you are at all afraid of heights, it's terrifying to be on the Passenger side when driving up and on the Driver's side when going down.... LOL

Acadia is simply beautiful. we camped there in 2002.... We camped at the Southern tip of the National Park.
Hopefully, you had a chance to go to the Ranger walks in the Tidepools and explore-- we found 2 seastars (starfish) one of which was 2 inches in diameter and the other about 10 inches in diameter.

Of course, we gorged ourselves on Lobster for most of the days we were there!

PinkB, Acadia was indeed gorgeous. The first day we had two boat tours, whale watching, and lobster catching, in perfect weather. The next morning clouds hung low but it didn't rain. On Cadilac Mt visibility was 50 feet and the wind was so bad we I thought my clothes would rip off. The next day we had planned to drive up Mt. Washington in the Whites but the same low clouds hung the for two days with intermittent rain, so I wasn't going to pay for the same thing we experienced on Cadilac Mt. Kid was bummed we also missed the alpine slide and the water park due to the weather. Other than that we had a fantastic week. And oh yes, the lobster was inexpensive and very good!

I don't believe in personalized plates. If you are running from the cops, it's easier for someone to remember the plate name instead of a number.

One year I got a random plate that said 156 FUN. I couldn't believe how much attention I got from that plate. Men were calling over from other cars to talk to me. It was just aweful, lol:)

My last two plates were BCKPCK and BCKPCKR in Illinois. My backpacking wife believes just like LIPSTICK HIKER and has a whole row of hard to memorize numbers on her car.

Lipstick and Prosecutor, unless your doing something wrong, why are you worried about the cops?!

And it could work in reverse. I got stopped a couple times for speeding, and was let off with a warning each time, and I can't say for sure, but I couldn't help think that having a BAKPAKR plate had something to do with it.

I guess BACKPKR is not on Trail Talk and will remain anonymous.

We saw one in Michigan (on I-275) yesterday that said "PAKRBKR"...
on a black SUV.. the old guy inside was smoking a cigarette, so Think & I wondered if that meant that they were a Packer's fan or someone who likes to hike?!
