TC4 - Who wants to hike the long way out ?

“I'm thinking about taking Monday off of work and taking the long way out of Martin's Fork (15 miles). We'd hike halfway on Sunday and camp (maybe a lil more than half) and then a quick hike out and down on Monday and then home. Anyone interested in joining me?”

“I'm taking the short way in as I have food I don't want to spoil on the way in by taking an extra day. So I'm a gonna take the long way out.”

“Overall, First, Second, and Third prizes will be awarded to the best dishes. Judges will be looking at creativity, BP feasibility, and just plain good taste. Prizes will also be awarded for the following categories.

GA -> ME a la AT (Most Practical) – This meal is ideal for a long-distance hiker. After putting in a high mileage day, a hiker will need essential carbs and vitamins; however, even though it’s practical, doesn’t mean it can’t be creative!

Tasmanian Devil Dish (Most Spiciest) – This meal is eccentric in its use of spice whether it’s spicy hot with jalapeno or spicy rich with curry.

BP Elite (Gourmet) – This meal is for the trail elitist who arranges plastic wine glasses and tablecloth on a tree stump (not a requirement). This is generally though of as a first-night meal where you backpack in perishables, or a winter-backpack meal where warm climates will not ruin fresh meat or seafood.

Neanderthal Delight (Most Primitive) – This meal is… well, primitive. Foods or meats cooked over an open fire, etc. Use your imagination.”

“Yeah, I'm gonna enter a few recipes...one that is backpackable, and one that isn't. But the thing with me is, I don't have Miss Opie to carry everything 15 miles ;-)”

“sorry am taking off thurs and fri to go on this trip, can't take off monday too. saving up my vacation days for when i move to VA.”

Is that hiking from the main part of the park, at Cumberland Gap? Or some other trail?”

“That's hiking from Zoe's 15 miles to Martin's Fork along the ridges.”

“So who's taking the "long way in?" And I presume that means no Friday night festivities, cuz there just wouldn't be enough time to get there otherwise on Saturday?

BUT... if you take in Friday night festivities, when do most people head out? And they drive to what trailhead to hike in... OR do most take the shuttle up?”

“I'm taking the long leisurely way home, but I'm hanging out at Martin's Fork Sunday night... down to Gibson Gap on Monday... back to the car at Pinnacle Tuesday.

I'm cooking in the Breakfast Cookoff, then my slack ass is taking the shuttle! LMAO”

“It's too bad that Friday night barbecue needed to be pre-paid. I wanted to go and wanted to go and wanted to go.. BUT... in reality, I don't know if we'll be there in time for it. So I didn't sign up.”

Thinkbubelz & I are still debating as to whether or not we can go-- can't get off of work early on Friday-- and I think we'd get there at Midnight... :-(

“It's too late now T-Mac. From what I understand there was going to be a meal catered by some barbecue place. Was $10 apiece -- it's referenced on some of the sign-up sheets adn schedules on the various websites and also on the threads at times. But you had to sign up by the 20th, I think. I know you and am confident you'll find somewhere great to eat. :-)

“I just sent mine off, I know it might be a little late, but I read 3 different dates to have it in by. The entry form says by Sept. 30th. I am entering the TC cookoff for $20, and the BBQ for $10. I need a X-Large t-shirt and a shuttle ride for Sunday only since I will hike in on Saturday for the cook-off. You should get the check in a couple of days.”

“We can still take the entry for the Friday night dinner up until Tuesday Oct. 12, 2004. So send it in......

“Can we pay for the dinner when we get there? Last year I didn't make it until long after the dinner was over and the same thing will probably happen this year...but if I can get there early I'd like to have a bite to eat.”

On the Heritage Trails website I found out about the B-BQ.
I will send my money in or CGHiker2, can we just bring it by the Gap Town Hall? I live very close.”

“I might have meet you at the bike/walking trail meeting, but I am not sure. I am renting the house next to the wedding chapel. Which store is yours? I want to sign up to help as well (I will call the number that was in our bill as well).”

“Well I did have a store there but we sold out last year. It was Zoe's Mountain Sports...but I do work in Middlesboro at Bath and Body Works.
