TC4 - Who wants to hike the long way out ?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 41 of 41 messages posted.
“I'm thinking about taking Monday off of work and taking the long way out of Martin's Fork (15 miles). We'd hike halfway on Sunday and camp (maybe a lil more than half) and then a quick hike out and down on Monday and then home. Anyone interested in joining me?” 3:31:42 PM 8/21/04 “coming in the long way...out the short” 3:42:15 PM 8/21/04 “I'm taking the short way in as I have food I don't want to spoil on the way in by taking an extra day. So I'm a gonna take the long way out.” 3:50:23 PM 8/21/04 “i'll be taking stuff that is indicative of backpacking cooking...*grin*” 5:50:25 PM 8/21/04 This is to be posted on titaniumchef.com soon.... “Overall, First, Second, and Third prizes will be awarded to the best dishes. Judges will be looking at creativity, BP feasibility, and just plain good taste. Prizes will also be awarded for the following categories. GA -> ME a la AT (Most Practical) – This meal is ideal for a long-distance hiker. After putting in a high mileage day, a hiker will need essential carbs and vitamins; however, even though it’s practical, doesn’t mean it can’t be creative! Tasmanian Devil Dish (Most Spiciest) – This meal is eccentric in its use of spice whether it’s spicy hot with jalapeno or spicy rich with curry. BP Elite (Gourmet) – This meal is for the trail elitist who arranges plastic wine glasses and tablecloth on a tree stump (not a requirement). This is generally though of as a first-night meal where you backpack in perishables, or a winter-backpack meal where warm climates will not ruin fresh meat or seafood. Neanderthal Delight (Most Primitive) – This meal is… well, primitive. Foods or meats cooked over an open fire, etc. Use your imagination.” 7:13:45 PM 8/21/04 “Yeah, I'm gonna enter a few recipes...one that is backpackable, and one that isn't. But the thing with me is, I don't have Miss Opie to carry everything 15 miles ;-)” 9:47:52 PM 8/21/04 “sorry am taking off thurs and fri to go on this trip, can't take off monday too. saving up my vacation days for when i move to VA.” 1:13:08 AM 8/22/04 “I'm also thinking about taking the long way in and spending Friday night on the trail.” 8:45:02 AM 8/22/04 Um, What Scorchie Said... “We're going to be sharing a ride (I think?), so I gotta head back to the Delaware Valley with her...” 4:49:33 PM 8/22/04 “Phantom, you should come...just put Scorchie on a Greyhound back ;-)” 4:58:36 PM 8/22/04 “riiiiiiight” 5:21:20 PM 8/22/04 “What is "the long way out?" Is that hiking from the main part of the park, at Cumberland Gap? Or some other trail?” 7:38:00 PM 8/22/04 “That's hiking from Zoe's 15 miles to Martin's Fork along the ridges.” 8:42:17 PM 8/22/04 “So who's taking the "long way in?" And I presume that means no Friday night festivities, cuz there just wouldn't be enough time to get there otherwise on Saturday? BUT... if you take in Friday night festivities, when do most people head out? And they drive to what trailhead to hike in... OR do most take the shuttle up?” 7:21:43 PM 9/11/04 “I'm taking the long leisurely way home, but I'm hanging out at Martin's Fork Sunday night... down to Gibson Gap on Monday... back to the car at Pinnacle Tuesday. I'm cooking in the Breakfast Cookoff, then my slack ass is taking the shuttle! LMAO” 7:07:30 PM 9/17/04 “Hey, what's the shuttle? and where does it pick you up/drop you off? Is there a cost? Thanks!” 10:34:52 PM 9/17/04 “It's $100 for trolls.” 8:49:37 AM 9/18/04 “If you want to shuttle you must fill in the entry form and send it in. There is a box on it for shuttle.....” 6:10:13 PM 9/18/04 “Well, that's cool then... I shouldn't have to pay anything... :-)” 10:45:01 PM 9/18/04 shuttle “costs money. Just in case you are not a troll... You have to send in the entry form if you want to reserve a spot on the shuttle Saturday/Sunday.” 6:56:24 PM 9/19/04 “The Czech is in the mail (with the appropriate boxes checked). I'll have the Breakfast Trophy in my back pocket when I get to Martin's Fork.... as long as there aren't too many Yankee judges... <VBG>” 1:29:26 PM 9/21/04 “It's too bad that Friday night barbecue needed to be pre-paid. I wanted to go and wanted to go and wanted to go.. BUT... in reality, I don't know if we'll be there in time for it. So I didn't sign up.” 2:03:55 PM 9/21/04 “If you get there early enough, just bring your own sandwich!” 2:08:47 PM 9/21/04 “Friday night bbq? I missed that reference. Can someone fill me in?” 3:09:16 PM 9/21/04 Wondering “how late people might show up at the campsite on Friday... Thinkbubelz & I are still debating as to whether or not we can go-- can't get off of work early on Friday-- and I think we'd get there at Midnight... :-( It's looking more and more like we may stick around Michigan and meet up with some TTers up here! :-)” 5:43:56 PM 9/21/04 “We'll still be up, and we'll have a drink waitin on ya.” 6:33:44 PM 9/21/04 “It's too late now T-Mac. From what I understand there was going to be a meal catered by some barbecue place. Was $10 apiece -- it's referenced on some of the sign-up sheets adn schedules on the various websites and also on the threads at times. But you had to sign up by the 20th, I think. I know you and am confident you'll find somewhere great to eat. :-) Pink, also from what I understand and from what people have said, some will come in quite late. And as currahee said, I think people will definitely be up. LOL! (someone give me a drinking icon, will ya??? LOL)” 7:02:47 PM 9/21/04 Check is in the mail! “I just sent mine off, I know it might be a little late, but I read 3 different dates to have it in by. The entry form says by Sept. 30th. I am entering the TC cookoff for $20, and the BBQ for $10. I need a X-Large t-shirt and a shuttle ride for Sunday only since I will hike in on Saturday for the cook-off. You should get the check in a couple of days.” 8:40:38 PM 9/21/04 “We can still take the entry for the Friday night dinner up until Tuesday Oct. 12, 2004. So send it in...... The food is great.” 3:42:00 PM 10/01/04 “me and the missus are gonna skip the BBQ dinner..but we will be there to harass you guys” 3:45:46 PM 10/01/04 “Can we pay for the dinner when we get there? Last year I didn't make it until long after the dinner was over and the same thing will probably happen this year...but if I can get there early I'd like to have a bite to eat.” 4:10:01 PM 10/01/04 “Hello to all, it has been awhile since I have been to trail talk. On the Heritage Trails website I found out about the B-BQ. I will send my money in or CGHiker2, can we just bring it by the Gap Town Hall? I live very close.” 4:16:51 PM 10/01/04 “sure you can bring to town hall. Gee where do ya live?” 7:45:49 AM 10/04/04 “I might have meet you at the bike/walking trail meeting, but I am not sure. I am renting the house next to the wedding chapel. Which store is yours? I want to sign up to help as well (I will call the number that was in our bill as well).” 8:50:14 PM 10/05/04 “Well I did have a store there but we sold out last year. It was Zoe's Mountain Sports...but I do work in Middlesboro at Bath and Body Works. Hope to see ya soon. Barbara” 7:55:19 AM 10/06/04 “Who is still planning on the long walk out? Angie & I are both off Monday, so we're gonna take advantage of the situation and grab another bag night.” 2:55:45 PM 10/09/04 “Me and my friend Sherie are still taking the long way out. I'll let you know if I'll be there Thursday night or Friday morning later this week. If it's Thursday I'll add +2 to my permit.” 5:53:36 PM 10/09/04 “Overnight @ Gibson Gap? That's what we're lookin at.” 6:49:57 PM 10/09/04 “Yeah, I think that sounds good.” 7:43:19 PM 10/09/04 “Pinnacle would be a good place to park and hike out too.” 7:45:14 PM 10/09/04 “Please add me as a possible for the sunday moday thing, PLease! Yo bear!” 4:23:29 PM 10/11/04 << back to Deam Wilderness page
