Definitely use TT as a daytime crutch. I like my day job but its still slow at times. TT helps!

Geez, starting to sound like a bad Viagra commercial.

I'm a trail talk astronaut. I've only been on the forum for a year. I've seen quite a few posters burn out though. Hog on Ice, I just hiked with him a few weeks and he has posted as recently as late last week. Jer and LeSubtil, haven't seen them in a long time. The thrill comes and goes, but trail talk is always apart of my day. Work just sucks and I love backpacking and hiking, talking about backpacking and hiking is just a great was to get through the day.

TrailTalk is more like a marathon than a sprint.

It has ups and downs and takes a little endurance to stay with it.

it's okay to take a break. Once in a while I don't feel like posting any nonsense. Even though I don't post to those threads, those same nonsense threads make me laugh, and trust me...once in a while I really need a good laugh.

I do however ALWAYS read the gear or TR posts. Don't always post though because I feel like my "cool report" reply is one of many and sounds like well one of many!

I live for the reponse to my TR's even if it's just "cool." Otherwise I think no one reads them and I feel sad and neglected. (sniff sniff.)

Gemini - I've done the same, too. At other times I've gone out of my way to read and respond to TR's which were outside my interests, mainly to acknowledge and thank the person for making the post. It requires thought, time and effort to produce a TR. But reading and responding to them is sort of a mood thing, and moods change.

Mainly because only a few people have shown an interest to TR's, while strings that I would consider to be trivial go on forever, I have not completed a trip report for a two-month trip. I was at a lot of places, saw a number ot TT people and have pictures of some of them as well as some of the interesting sights. And I saw some great wildlife, some things that were new to me. (a bear swimming, baby skunks and baby loons) But I lost my enthusiasm for completing the trip report. It takes time to select and order the interesting pictures, let alone organizing notes and writing the report.

I am not trying to be critical of people. Live and let live and to each his own. BS, comical and odd events are popular here. I enjoy them, too.

I think I'm trying to say something. Sorry, but I'm lost.

About the time I'm ready to chuck it all, I see a post that sparks a belly laugh, or a bp tip that I can relate to or will definately use. That's what keeps me checking in.

Nice thread, a fun one to find on my infrequent visits to TT. It's been so long since I was a regular poster that I'll probably be called a troll if I fly a new thread. I did a 'strider checking in' thread awhile back, maybe I'll try another one and see what happens.

As for what's attractive about TT these days.... trip reports number one..... Political discussions, number ten.
