Warning
In case you haven't heard, a couple was slain in their sleep in Coloma, Sierra foothills (50 miles east of Sacramento.)

No motive that I've read yet. They were shot in their sleep in their bags. No valuable were taken.

Just thought I'd pass it on for you Cali folk.

Last theory I heard.. (and this is sort of old news).. is the two counselors were good Jesus people you know? and some are calling it a HATE crime.. .. the original theory was it was a love triangle maybe.. but the latest I've heard ont he news was that some Devil just didn't care for Jesus, or his name.. or anyone who spouted it.

Weren't they miles away from their camp and town?

They were camping on the coast, near Bodega Bay, when they were shot. They lived and worked up in the Sierras. Basically, they were tourists like the rest of us schmucks so no one really knew them or their affiliations.

I think you are right, ww. I'd hate to think it was a random crime -- but you might be right.

The only reason I know this is that I am camping in that general area in the next two weeks on my road trip...

Can you stealth camp while there? If it is random, and they can't find you, maybe you'll have less to worry about.

There is probably some trail of evidence that will present itself eventually... a butterfly effect -- where something got said to someone who took offense..

What's up with all the Internet links with Bodega Bay though?? This is a famous place for murders?

I've just decided that I'll camp a bit further up the coast.

Googled:

"19. California Coastline:
Bodega Bay; Area of supernatural activity.
A vortex is believed to be here, a strange energy flow that effects the environment and people.

20. Potter School House: Bodega Bay;
Reputed to be very haunted by many ghosts. Owner has seen the ghost of a little girl, heard footsteps going up and down the stairs, lights move, a rocking chair that "rocks by itself", doors that open and close by themselves, a face that appeared on a chalkboard, and when wiped clean, only appeared again, and someone banging at the front door. An image was even caught on film by an investigative team there."

Two campers found slain on California beach
Police say they were shot in sleep
Friday, August 20, 2004 Posted: 7:37 AM EDT (1137 GMT)

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A soon-to-be married couple reported missing when they didn't return to their jobs as camp counselors were found shot to death on a beach, apparently in their sleep, authorities said.

The bodies of Lindsay Cutshall, 23, of Ohio, and Jason Allen, 26, of Michigan, were discovered in sleeping bags by sheriff's deputies who were rescuing a stranded hiker.

"They were shot in the head, presumably in their sleep because there was no disturbance at their camp site," Lt. Dave Edmonds said. The victims had valuables nearby that weren't taken, Edmonds said.

Police believe the couple had been camping in the Jenner area, about 75 miles up the coast from San Francisco, since Saturday. Authorities do not know when the couple was killed. Autopsies were planned for Friday.

The two were spending the summer working at Rock-N-Water, a Christian adventure camp in Coloma, in the Sierra foothills about 50 miles east of Sacramento.

They were reported missing Monday after they didn't return to camp. They were last seen Friday when they said they were going to visit friends and would get back on Sunday, sheriff's officials said.

Authorities said the two bodies appeared to have been on the beach for more than 24 hours when they were spotted by a helicopter crew sent to rescue a 17-year-old boy who had fallen about 50 feet while trying to retrieve a purse his girlfriend dropped.

The hiker, who was clinging to a rocky cliff when rescuers arrived, was pulled up by a paramedic attached to the helicopter by a 100-foot rope.

Jenner man says he saw couple after they were reported missing

The Associated Press

Last Updated: August 23, 2004, 12:10:18 AM PDT

JENNER, Calif. (AP) - A business owner here has told detectives investigating the mysterious murders of two camp counselors on a remote Sonoma County beach that he saw the couple more than 24 hours after they failed to show up for work at a Christian youth camp.

Bert Rangel, who owns the River's End restaurant and lodge in Jenner, told the San Francisco Chronicle Sunday that he's certain he saw the couple between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. last Monday, when they stopped to ask if there were any cabins available.

Lindsay Cutshall, 23, of Fresno, Ohio and Jason Allen, 26, of Zeeland, Mich. were reported missing last Monday after they failed to show up at an El Dorado County youth camp, where they were working as whitewater rafting guides for the summer.

The couple was supposed to return to Rock-n-Water, a Christian adventure camp in the Sierra foothills about 40 miles east of Sacramento, by 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, to prepare for the arrival of campers. When they didn't show up the following morning, the camp reported them missing and their parents flew to California.

The nationwide solve rate for murders is 64%. The west coast solve rate for murders is 58%. The Zodiac serial murderer in the San Franscisco area was never solved. Sometimes these cases are hard to crack.

Hope they catch the mofo(s) that did this, and string him/her up. Those campers were just kids.
