Could you hike in a neoprene surfing suit (shorty) in the rain and not be chaffed to death or die from the heat in cooler weather say 15 to 30°?

I would think you'd sweat so much it wouldn't matter. Of course, you'd be warm. Also, neoprene isn't exactly lightweight stuff.

Who cares about what it looks like if it would keep you warm in rain or cold weather. The short suits have short legs (above the knee) and long sleeves.

Even in 15 degrees i think you would overheat rather quickly!!! Fisherman stand in freezing cold water for hours in neoprene waders so I think that would be asking for trouble.Besides overheating ,dehydration could become a problem too.

about two pounds for short leg/long sleeve suit.

and they come in different weights. Usually the fishing neoprene is very heavy duty. The surf/waterski suits are much lighter weight and more flexable.

Sounds to me like something you would only want in really cold conditions. Like using a vapor barrier.

If you do try it, you might want a wicking layer on underneath to move the sweat out of the suit.

You would be wetter inside a wet suit & a whole lot warmer. I had a pr of half-finger neoprene gloves (mesh back) that I was very fond of. Still occasionally wear these worn out things. Incredible grip.

I guess the idea came from my neoprene fishing gloves. A little damp, but I've worn them in the snow. Hands stay warm. I've also scuba dived (dove?) at 15° in a heavy wet suit and almost cooked.

I have no idea. The only clue is that it is listed as a 2/2 Shorty Wetsuit.

That is the question. Could you use something like this in the dead of winter and not worry about getting wet or cold?
BS

By top, I assume you mean the upper (shirt) portion and bottom would be the pants?

So the whole suit would be 2mm thick?

Being on land is different from being in the water. You'd be living in that thing for a few days.

well, i guess it'd keep you warm. Seems like it'd just be really uncomfortable. I think you'd chafe pretty bad after a little while too.

Things meant to be in the water, should prolly stay in the water.

Well I guess I'm scrapping that Idea. It just looks like, if you are gonna be wet why not go all out.

You could get the matching flippers, face mask, and snorkel. That would be a sight coming down the trail. You would probably get your picture taken often.

you would get a few kinds of rashes from hiking in a wetsuit. ugh.

first of all you'd freeze the minute you took it off if you wore it in cold enough weather to stupidly wear this. Plus neoprene is bulky when not underwater at depth. the way neoprene keeps divers warm is by using the body heat to warm a thin layer of water directly against the skin. Gloves and socks are waterproof neoprene...much heavier and bulkier. Plus if you wore this while hiking in the rain it'd soak up water and sweat, if it was freezing..the suit would also freeze. most suits come in 3mm and 5 mm. this is a shorty one piece and doesn't list mm. I'd say it's a 3. I have a farmer john/shorty combo 3mm mares. Gives me 6mm around my core, and 3mm at the extremeties. Save your money unless your a surfer..body glove suits suck anyway

Isn't it common practice to piss in your wetsuit when ya first put it on? Would this rule aply on dry land?
Nigal

Dry land would definitely change the rules for me.
