yeah, nothing special though. I wouldn't rate it in the top 10 that I've been on.

the ankle
seems to be ok, "soft tissue" injury so says the boneman. Prescribed anti-inflam pills and said take it easy.

Its feeling better (Finally!) after several days of very low activity and limping.

Predict that i'll be good for this trip unless the new job throws a wrench in it, (or the move screws it up).

wow, our area isn't affected by the closure - yet though

people who are meeting at Mitchell will need to come up from the south on the Parkway. It sounds like there is a closure on the parkway north of NC 128. From what it sounds, there won't be any camping in Black Mtn Camp Ground. I wonder if the gang coming up Colberts Ridge Trail from Carolina Hemlocks will be affected. I will call closer to the time and get all the specifics. Hopefully Ivan won't further mess things up.

The hike that we'll be doing has been dubbed "The Black Mountain Traverse" because it will cover the entire range which is in the shape of a U.

There is more to come! My Mother in-law called @ 7 am and said a tree in her front yard fell and knocked the powerline down, she called the power company, they said it will be 5 weeks before they can get to them. The road to Black Mtn. campground is washed away.

They closed schools in 2 counties in Tenn today because of the rain. Silly me....and I thought they just did that for snow???

embear, a few counties along the Tn/Al border were closed yesterday. I guess they have a lot of flooding down that way. The southern portion of Tn got a lot more rain than we did. It got worse the more you moved towards Chatt.

the only parts that might be washed out would be that one backroad to get to the trailhead for the Crest Trail on the north end.

but we'll know the answers to those questions pretty soon.

Blalocks fam will fill us in.

ENS, here is a good description of the trail leaving from Mt Mitchell. We are coming up that..correct. I haven't read enough about our route yet so I don't even know which way we are going..lol

Ha ha ha Ewker,

I hope you didn't sign onto this trip thinking it was like that description. We're starting from Bolen's Creek with a brutal 4000 ft. in 4 miles climb. Then the ridiculous bushwhack throught the briars and stinging nettle followed by hand over hand rock climb up the steep face of Winterstar. I hope you're a masochist.

4000' in 4 miles, that will be fun, looking forward to it

My ankle is much improved and will be fine by the time this hike gets here. But I ain't carrying no old man's pack!

Good thing about the ridge walk from Celo to Winter Star is there aren't many trees along the ridge, so unless there were washouts and slides (entirely possible) the "un-trail" can't really get any worse.
Roam Around
12:51:59 PM
9/21/04

If there are big washouts we're going to have to make sure we have people hike on either side of ENS considering his tendency to fall off of mountains :)

Ewk - sure, if you can work out at 9am or 10pm. I've actually hired a trainer to get back into shape (ive been indulging lately) so I'm gonna be buff. Just you wait....

Roam, I can give you a piggy back if you arent feeling well. Although you seem pretty tall so your feet may still touch the ground:)
