Garden State Movie
The movie is about a guy who decides to get off his psych meds without consulting a psychiatrist first and feels good afterwards.

This movie is so dangerous to mentally ill people. People who take psych drugs sometimes stop because they feel better, but you are not better, the illness is still there and comes back again. You may become so ill, you can't realize that you need to get back on them again and you will either kill yourself, kill someone else or who knows what.

I wonder about the "suicidal tendencies" that are now being reported as a side effect of some anti-depressants.
There are those people who have stopped taking medications under the care of a physician. Some people don't like to think of having to take medications all of their lives.

Just recently, some anti-depressant medications were on tv saying that they may cause suicidal tendencies. I don't remember which ones they were.

You will find that whatever medication you take will say that it will actually give you what you already have and make it worse. Anti anxiety drugs can give you anxiety for example.

The reason why people are given medications with potential severe side effects is because you are so bad off with what you have, that it is worth trying the drug.

My cousin-in-law took a drug that was not approved by the federal drug adminstration, because he was going to die from mesotheleoma. You may have seen the ads from attorney's trying to get people to join a class action suit with people who have developed the disease. There is no cure. It's cancer from breathing in (I can't think of the word) that pink insulation dust.

It didn't cure him, and made him worse in some ways, but there was a chance he could have lived, but he died.

Well, all that may be true LH, but Natalie Portman was very, very hot in that movie, so I have to give it a 2 thumbs up! :)

It was OK, kind of artsy, and something the wife will probably love. Did I mention that Natalie Portman is very, very hot?

rad? Where the heck did you come from. I thought you got old, and forgot you belonged to tt, so you didn't come here anymore, lol.

Natalie Portman is a very pretty girl, and has a lovely figure, but I thought men thought hot woman were the ones with the hour glass figures. She does have a great figure that I'm sure anyone would love to have, but she is very petite.

Leaving aside the unfortunate start this thread got:

This was a great movie. High on my list of rental recommendations.

Zach Braf (Scrubs), natlie portman.

Has a real Harold and Maude sensibility.

The soundtrack is awesome.

Shins, Cold Play, one old simon and grafunkel tune that is great.

Hold on ... let me grab it.

It was not a movie about someone taking himself off meds.

The lead character is is someone who should never have been on meds to begin with. Whose father, a pyschiatrist, had him put on meds and fed his habit . . but that's still not what the movie is about.

It is a good movie. Great to see one that doesn't try to do too much. Soundtrack is great too.

While I thought it was a little slow I liked the way it shows that we can overcome some pretty screwed up stuff about ourselves through the help of others even if they are screwed up. Both the main characters grew and changed for the better. Great flick. It would have been better if Dr. Cox would have been it too though. LOL!

Either of you see Harold and Maude?

Has a similar feel. Similar growth in a character.

Great soundtrack.

I got my wife the soundtrack for Garden state forher birthday. Listened to it several times this weekend while trapped inside painting.

“Either of you see Harold and Maude?"

Was this the Johnny Depp movie? Where he was acting like Charlie Chaplain?

First of all, I loved this movie. Yes, it's kinda artsy, but I'm starting to like movies that aren't about blowing things up. And it's not artsy like "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring" or many of the other indie movies you see where you end up going "What the hell was that about?"

But LipstickHiker has a point too. A lot of mentally ill people don't like the way their meds make them feel, and many of them don't know that they really need them. That's why you hear about sick people going off their meds all the time. Lee may be right that this movie is not about a guy finally living life and feeling good because he went off his meds, but it is definitely a central theme. And that is not a good message to send to sick people.

manuka, if you play Cat Steven's Moon Shadow backwards, it says "kill all Americans", lol:)

I don't think so,

"wodahs noom"

Well both Wodahs http://wodahs.stumbleupon.com/, and noom http://www.noom.com/ have web sites but neither says anything about killing anything.

And unfortunately the online Arabic/English dictionary is no longer free, so I cannot check either word (or drow if you prefer)

manuka, didn't you see my little smile after I said that? I was only kidding. But if you play Peace Train backwards, it says, "planes, trains and automobiles, blow them up in America". Calling the song Peace Train was just an added insult to the real meaning of the song.

Garden State - Excellent movie. One of the best I've seen in the last year or so. Almost up there w/ Eternal Sunshine.

The soundtrack for Garden State was awesome. I've had it on hold at the library for a week or so. The person that has it is supposed to be returning it next week. Woo Hoo
