Bristol Nextel Race this weekend...

I can meet and greet. dlookout and I will be meeting up on Sat morn in Bristol, then heading up into the woods to find a campground for the weekend. after settin up camp, we'll head down to the track for the festivities and the race, then return to the camp site for the evening then head home on Sunday.

If there are any Nasvillians that are interested, I might be taking the day off on Friday and driving on out and could pick someone(s) up.

These tickets were free to me and they are free to whoever would like to join me. The race is a night race on Sat at 7pm.”

stikmon - if you have time you need to check out Roan. Even if you just hike the first 3 miles from Carvers Gap it will be worth the effort. Also, if you don't have a place to stay then camping up there would be nice. Roan is the best place to hike that I've ever been.”

“I don't know that I could come up with enough tickets to set this up on the trips page, but sounds like we could get a group from this thread.

Locally, we don't plan any meetings in B'ham or Anniston on the Friday before or the Monday after the race. The interstates are clogged all day for both days. It's a mess. The other thing is you can forget eating out that weekend. A local dive will usually have 2 hr waits. The place I'm talking about is pretty neat. It's called "The Arc" It dates back to when this was a dry county. State waterways were wet so the restaurant was on a big houseboat so they could sale beer.

When my wife and I go we get a half pitcher of beer that's actually a tea pitcher that's 3/4 full. You can get about 6-7 mugs of beer out of it....the price is $3.”

I'm just going to have to bite the damn bullet and take a three day weekend and come down hiking sometime. That place sounds like a great place to eat. I love places like that. My family used to go to the this place in Kentucky that was a boarding house run by two women and all the tables and place settings were miss matched like you'd find in someone's house and there was no menu. They just brought out big bowls of whatever was being made that day and that's what ya ate. It was REAL home cookin'.”

D and I went out there in june? and just drove up into the forrest on a forrest service road, found a flat glade by a creek and just pitched camp for one night after the race was over. in the AM, we broke camp and went home.
