Las Vegas
I'm outta here for a week in Vegas. Wish I could say I'm gonna backpack the Grand Canyon...But nooooo...I can't even bring my boots. Later people ;~)

its cheaper in the wilderness...
Vegas is only a gateway for me to get to the wilderness....Zion, Death Valley, Mojave, The Canyon, Red Rocks Canyon...any direction you go is better than stayin in sin city...but, since your fate is what it is...have a blast and don't loose too much money. If you have an opportunity, go up to Red Rocks Canyon for a day trip. It is only 20 minutes to get there. Just outside of Vegas.

gonna fly to vegas this winter for the ol' drive thru weddin.

prolly do a 4 or 5 day weekend trip.

neither one of us care much for casinos and all that stuff.

we want to rent a car, see the sights, grand canyon(?) do some hiking(?) ect., ect.

how 'bout some other suggestions?

what about the best dates?

Make sure that there's not a BIG convention in that weekend. The weekends that LV doesn't have a convention at all are pretty few and far between (nonexistant?) but picking a weekend without a big one will make your room cheaper.

As a rule of thumb, The National Association of Broadcasters is a huge convention. It's so big, that they decided 10 years ago or so to just leave it in Las Vegas, instead of moving it around the country, because LV was the only place that could accomodate it. Next year's NAB is expecting 135000 attendees, so try to avoid a weekend with a convention that big.

Of course, most of the really big conventions are week-long.

Real advice then? Give her a wedding she can be proud of and remember for the rest of her life. If your just going to go for the shotgun wedding save the money and go down town.

real wedding?

she doesn't want one anymore than i do.

for one thing, we'd have to pay for everything ourselves and she's a tightwad about most things. we'd both rather spend the money on a nice horse trailer, a nice vacation, or something.

BTW, you do realize i was j/k right? teeheehee

Had I to do it all over again, we would have scaled back the wedding a lot and used the money for a down payment on a house. Good luck with it all! :)

There’s nothing wrong with that sacco if you don’t require a traditional church type wedding. Then again, you’ve always struck me as the type to burst into flames were you to step in a church.

How far is Zion NP from Vegas? That might be another place to check out if you get bored with the GC.

I'd probably consider, GC, Hoover Dam, Zion, and spend one day in Vegas just for the heck of it. I recently read where only only 30-40% of folks actually go to Vegas to gamble.

Nevada Car Touring
My wife and I toured Southern Utah/Nevada, and Arizona 2 christmas's ago. I might suggest Route 66 towards Winslow, AZ (so you can stand on a corner in Winslow, AZ) to Meteor Crater, real cool, the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ, just as cool,
Dead Horse State Park (a parking lot overlooks the Colorado and Green Rivers) cool views, or you can try hiking the narrows of Zion national park, the needles of Bryce Canyon, there is also Arches National park, easy drive to see arches, and Capital Reef National park, or got to Salt Canyon???? in Canyonlands National park to see the America Man Pictograph, Hot Hike, also hike to Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon, 10 mi one way, but year round temp @ 74, at the falls. Enjoy

Sacco, I got married out there about 3 years ago. Don't go on a weekend when there is a football playoff game. You'll have to get you marriage certificate at the Clark County Court House which is very close to Fremont street. The Hoover Dam is very close, as well as Lake Mead. I've also read that there is a book called something like 60 hikes within 60 Miles of Las Vegas. The Grand Canyon is Amazing. I was at the Southern Rim and couldn't believe the scope of it. It'll be a few hour drive from Vegas though. Hope this helps.

I think the Vegas wedding sounds fun.

My only 2 cents. A lot of people don't know this, but winter time in Vegas is not warm. I figured it was, because it is in Los Angeles. *shrugging* I've been there in January and another time in February and both times were chilly! Just something to keep in mind.

PS, since this thread is about Vegas.

I was supposed to be there this weekend. In fact I would have been waiting for my flight at Sea Tac right now had it not been for that stupid hurricane in Florida. Damn!

What does Florida have to do with it, you ask? My friend who lives in Tampa was taking me. Paying for it too, cause I'm so po. *sigh*

i was out there in Jan the one and only time I went. It was mild, cool - not cold. Jacket or sweater weather. But - I wasn't doing any outdoor stuff other than from one hotel/casino to another.
