Crocs, Waldies, Birks?
I need some camp shoes. A couple weeks ago at a store in Michigan I also found some Birkenstocks in the same style.

What are your opinions?

neither - go to Wal Mart and get some of those little "water shoes" super lightweight and only about 6 bucks.

My Waldies are the most comfortable thing I've put on my feet. I end up wearing them around the house, the yard, and walking to dog (even in the winter with snow). I've since found some knock offs that were $6/pair without the holes. That will be nice when the temperatures dip below 20.

hmmm, Should I break my self-imposed Wal-Mart ban for these?

I haven't weighed them, but my $6 Walmart water shoes are not very light. The rubber sole is pretty heavy and I feel every rock when wearing them. Also, they make my feet hot.

I've been using a pair of leather moccasin slippers for the past 5 years as my camp shoes. They are very comfortable, but I have to waterproof them from time to time.

Cros. I like the heel strap. Worth the extra ounce imho. I wear mine all the time now... that is if I can get them off my gf's feet. She likes to steal them and wear them around the house too.

'and walking to dog'...WTF? I meant to say walking the dog.

'You're walking to dog? Where's dog?'

Water shoes are light, but not nearly as comfortable as the Waldies or knock-offs.

I have neither, but would pick Crocs based on what I know. See my comment in the Gear List thread.

I'm leaning in the Crocs direction. I wish there was a place near here that sold them. I like the color selection. I'm thinking red.

I noticed they have different styles. There's the beach model and then another one with holes. Any comments on that?

allhearts are cheaper and fit better than waldies (imo). I have several pair, some with holes and some without in a variety of colors.

But I really like my teva water shoes for stream crossings.

I didn't make myself clear. They have two models with holes. One is called Beach-something. Then there's another holey model for about $10 more. Can't remember what it's called.

I see, I wonder what the difference is...(maybe fit?)

But I LOVE the purple ones!

I have no idea
what Waldies or Crocs are!

Now Tevas I know.

I usually wear Chacos or flipflops as my camp shoes. Depending on how much weight I want to carry. The Chacos might be heavier, but I can hike in them IF I get a blister or something.

Sometimes I bring my Keens, but I don't think they are very comfortable.

I don't have wal mart slipper!

They're all mesh on the tops and the bottoms aren't heavy at all.

these things only weigh about 6 ozs. and take up zero space in the pack.

They're great for camp shoes - but you wouldn't wanna walk too far in them. They're meant for water use ya know.

the beach model is the original.

the cayman is the other newer holey model for 10 more beans.

the cayman is suppose to be contoured better and have more sizes available, i guess.

i have the beach and and they fit me good - but i have fat feet so maybe if you have narrow feet you might like the caymens better?

I have generic waldies and love em. In the winter, I bring my wool Stiegmans - not sure if they make those anymore?

They look heavy and clunky. I don't doubt their comfort however. Clogs are the best. I have several pairs of Danskos because of the clog design.

ya, i know. i was told about them on a different forum. i checked out the links and said yuck, they look ugly, clunky, heavy, uncomfortable...

i figured i'd stick with my walmart water socks.

then he showed them to me on a trip. thy're way more more impressive in person (hence all the great reviews on here)

i ordered a pair the day i got back from that trip and have lived happily ever after.

Pixie, I have used the waldies for wading upstream to get better pictures. If by some slim chance they come off they float. I guess the crocs would be better in that way. The waldies are super light weight and the bottom grips the ground quite well esp if your walking down to get water
