Just saw the CNN report from Fort Pierce. The guy was showing the marina just down the block from my office - about 100 boats are destroyed and the 10,000,000 dollar marina is all messed up.

Worst is the Tiki Bar that sits out on the marina - great little place to go have a beer - its got lamp poles laying on the roof and looks like a real mess.

Hmmm, wonder if the office got messed up?

Tried to call folks but can't get anyone to answer their phone.

Plannin on going back home tomorrow and see what I've got.

Haven't heard from nowslimmer but he's in Tampa at a hotel and should be fine. You are the only one I was still concerned about and I am glad you checked in.

Just talked to my boss, he went over to Port Charlotte - said the winds there are getting kinda breezy, but so far so good.

Conditions in St. Lucie County, (home):

No power in entire county
city marina destroyed
K Mart Building on US 1 in Ft. Pierce collapsed
Several buildings with roof damage
Lots of gas station canopies knocked around

I was planning on driving home tomorrow, but he told me to forget it.

hmmm, still debating that one.

Where are the manatees?
70 miles North of Tampa, my sister and family say power was out about 3 a.m. Trees knocked over, streets flooded, Nothing to do but wait it out. She has to go to work early tomorrow morning- if she can get to the hospital.

but all the extra fresh water is really gonna mess up the balance in Indian River Lagoon.

I am back to the 1st century! My power is back on! I do own a generator and was going to put it out after the hurricane, didn't know I would lose power 9 hours before it would hit!

this has been a very unique storm.

Friggin HUGE! for one - the weather channel used the word "unprecedented" in terms of size at least.

nothing at all - except that power is supposedly out all over St. Lucie county.

I can't get anyone who i thought was sticking around to answer a phone - regular or cell.

I'm guessing that the phone lines are down and cell towers may be damaged as well.

I do know taht the St. Lucie Mets stadium was badly damaged - light poles down and such - and thats only about 3.5 miles from my place.

I'm glad to hear from some of my FL friends. I've been glued to the TV watching the storm and hoping everyone was ok. I have good friends north of Tampa and haven't heard from them since Friday night. I hope they're ok.

I talked to my brother who lives in Tampa several times throughout the day. They got it pretty good, but not nearly as bad as those on the other coast. I imagine Nowslimmer will be fine. My bro sent me a few pics of fallen trees from his cell phone's camera. Pretty cool.

Back Up
We steered clear of the hurricane fore winds, but the power was knocked out at 10:30 yesterday and jus cam back on. Nothing like Charley for us - only one tree down (on the lines) in our neighborhood, and a lot of debris.

Thanks to all for your concern.

What did you do for Labor Day Weekend?

well, based on conversations with people at home I probably have little or no real damage at my house.

But our office which is down by the intercoastal took some damage with busted windows and water comeing in and destroying furniture and computers and such.

where Wolfy is didn't get it tooooo bad - she is fairly well south of the worst part - but they probably lost power and it may or may not be back on.

that area didn't sustain too much damage though, at least not as far as I know.

Treebait and HPM finally reporting in here. We still have no power at our house, and aren't expected to until tomorrow afternoon. I'm posting from my parents' house again. We lost some big branches and one tree that got flattened by another branch. Our power went out 1:30 pm sunday afternoon. The fridge is nasty, but amazingly everything in the freezer is still frozen solid. Jacksonville lost many power lines, there's still about 250k people without power here. Clay co. utilities are even worse off, down where HPM works. He's home today. My in-laws, who live at the end of our block, are on a completely separate power grid than us. They have power and satellite still. I was going to do laundry there, but I called and woke up Mary and the others are asleep still, so no laundry there. Guess where Laurel's been staying? They wouldn't let her stay at our house. Oh well it lets me get work done but I miss her even if it's only the end of the block. Funny how many changes of clothes we're going through, trying to stay dry and not quite so stinky. We still have phone service but that's about it.It's damp and drizzly here, supposed to be like that all day. My poor book collection is trying to curl up. :(

cyndeee reporting in: we lost power sunday around noon time and got it back on monday morning. my best friend works at progress energy and i'm hoping she had something to do with us getting it back on so quickly. no damage at the beach, a very high tide but it only made it to the first set of sea oats. it was really cool on sunday walking the beach and seeing the sand swirl like clouds. on monday the wind had turned and was pounding us from the west. when we re-did our house last year we re-sheeted the floors and put in tile. the house did very little shaking. lost internet and cable, but am at work today. next door neighbor lost the roof to her alum shed and that's about it. our house in largo where our daughter lives lost some tree limbs and we will be cutting those down tonight. haven't heard from nowslimmer, i think he stayed in clearwater.

Glad to hear from the folks who are okay. Being without power sucks, but being backpackers should allow you to cope.

Grandson Zack is safe and sound. He will have some stories to tell, I'm sure. And I'll be glad to listen.

I heard from om
om had to chainsaw 3 big trees from her driveway to get to work today.
She has another tree down on the side of her house. It pulled her electric breaker box away from her house so she has no power and can't get any till the tree is removed and the breaker box and meter mast is repaired.
She's cooking and cleaning with rainwater and her backpacking skills.
