Back out to sea with you Frances!” 4:55:01 PM 8/31/04 “Oh yeah. In answer to Fritz's question. Treebait and I live about 1.2 miles from the beach. There is nothing between us and the beach except mostly one and two story homes with lots of trees.” 5:04:58 PM 8/31/04 “Scary! Good luck to all of you. (And I didn't mean to be flip about the long-term forecasts in my earlier post, I hope it didn't sound that way.)” 5:11:38 PM 8/31/04 “Naw no big thing. You just have to be aware of where that storms are headed in the subtropics. Now is preparedness time. I'll be nervous until Thursday and then I will know if I should be scared. The really scary thing to me is that this sucker is at 140mph winds and it hasn't hit the warm waters yet. When it does it will speed up and the preparedness window will close rapidly. Cat 5 is 155mph winds and I'm guessing this sucker will make it.” 5:17:39 PM 8/31/04 “Geez now who sounds flip? I meant the no big thing in reference to your earlier post. Frances is definately a big thing. All this and my dad is getting a stint put in his heart Friday. ~sheesh~” 5:20:20 PM 8/31/04 UPGRADED “It's a category 4 now.” 5:24:25 PM 8/31/04 “ Frances I don't want her, you can have her, She's too much for me, she's too much for me. ... (sung to an old polka melody) Treebait - Please quit sending Frances back to me. I don't want to hook up with her. I keep telling her to go north, but you keep directing her back to me. With the last projection toward Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral, part of the eye will pass oven my trailer. Well, at least it is a travel trailer, even if it has not hit a road for years. Please keep an eye out for it. I'm afraid it uill be heading up I-95, alone, while I head west on 192. Depending upon how things look in the morning, I may look for a weekend reservation at Silver Lake in Withlacoochee State Forest. Collier Seminole SP neqr Marco Island is under consideration, too.” 5:55:41 PM 8/31/04 “Stay safe everyone. This could get hairy -- they're talking about this one as far north as New York City...” 6:03:25 PM 8/31/04 “Its not looking good. Keeping a close eye on this one as well. Not turning out to be a good year for Florida.” 6:44:14 PM 8/31/04 “this #&%!$ is gonna be pissed off and nasty when she gets here. HPM is prolly right about it making Cat 5. Still a good chance it'll bend north before making landfall, but i guess its slim. we'll know more tomorrow and for sure on Thursday what to do and where to go.” 6:58:55 PM 8/31/04 “hounddog - where are you in FL? Yep, this one is gonna be a badun'. Hope like he11 it doesn't make it into the warm Gulf. Hope it turns northward and misses all of us!” 7:02:29 PM 8/31/04 “Stove Stomper I am in Naples and if it doesnt get me there I also have a place in the center of the state North west of Lake Okeechobee in Lake Placid on Lake Istokpoga. But for this one I will be in North Georgia on the trail when it hits. So If I have damage it will have to wait until I come back. That bothers me a little but That what the insurance is for.” 7:15:06 PM 8/31/04 “Well NS, I already have one bossy Frances in my life- my mother in law (it's her middle name.) But believe I'd much rather keep her, she's a really wonderful person. In small doses.” 7:34:05 PM 8/31/04 “lmao @ treebait. Hey stovey, heard a radio report this afternoon saying the Navy models showed Frances going directly across the state and entering the Gulf of Mexico. But thats just one model of the half dozen that the NWS uses. Personally, I hope she turns a big curl and head back up towards Bermuda.” 8:17:22 PM 8/31/04 “Roam, Where are you in Florida?” 8:28:26 PM 8/31/04 “East Coast - Port St. Lucie.” 8:34:09 PM 8/31/04 “Hey now. I love my mom too! But yeah, she's bossy. I'm just worried that it makes a very late curl and scrubs a massive swath of shoreline as it goes north.” 8:54:22 PM 8/31/04 “hey...yall are welcome to stay in sc in my home. (in case some you are going to travel out of state)” 9:00:16 PM 8/31/04 “Gemini, we may have to head up that way. We may stay with HPM's grandma though. She's in the Blackville/Denmark area.” 9:20:25 PM 8/31/04 “Wow Roam, it's not looking good for you either.” 9:30:37 PM 8/31/04 “Thanks Gemini! O... You did mean me too? I like my breakfast in bed and I will need to bring all my laundry as it will need washin. You dont mind do you?” 9:33:09 PM 8/31/04 “lol...you've got to wash your own cloth, and make your own breakfast now. shoot...my husband's lucky if he gets breakfast.” 9:36:57 PM 8/31/04 “treebait... well you know if you need to stay somewhere...send me an email and I'll send you my phone number. I have no clue where the Blackville/Denmark area is. (never really get around much here in SC) if it's close you should come up there and hike congaree swamp. flat (REALLY flat), but really pretty. LOL” 9:39:15 PM 8/31/04 “Well how about if I sleep in the kitchen. That would kinda be like having breakfast in bed! Well if not can you see if your husban will make my breakfast? Very sweet to see your offer. Thanks Gemini! Hope all is Well!” 9:46:02 PM 8/31/04 “I'm well. Hope all is well with your a$$. :) you all stay safe down there. Nope wait, get the heII out!!!! Really now, stay safe!” 9:48:58 PM 8/31/04 “Hey Gem, I'm plannin on being in Savannah, but that may get washed out. So we could come hang with you too then? that'd be awesome!” 9:50:11 PM 8/31/04 “sure!! email me and I send you my cell phone number! or do you still have it?” 9:50:59 PM 8/31/04 “no, email it again please. I lost all my contact data when my laptop crashed back in July. thanks” 10:07:59 PM 8/31/04 “you've got mail” 10:11:17 PM 8/31/04 10:32:09 PM 8/31/04 “screw Disney World, Poor ROAM AROUND! Poor NOWSLIMMER Poor Tango, Coop and all the rest of us!” 10:42:54 PM 8/31/04 “Party! Did someone say P A R T Y ?” 10:45:35 PM 8/31/04 Goodbye Florida, R.I.P. “What a path! And I heard on TV that they expect it to come into Florida even further south, turn and travel up through most of the state. Where are the protesters when you need them?” 11:07:31 PM 8/31/04 Take care HPM, treebait, Coop, Roam and NS! “This is not good! The new track is very very scary!” 11:15:51 PM 8/31/04 Where did the time go? “Did Frances stall during the previous period.? Starting at 8 PM Thursday to 8 PM Sunday the predicted path has lost close to six hours! The earlier part of the prediction appears to be 3-4 hours behind the previous prediction released six hours ago. Or am I seeing things?” 11:43:58 PM 8/31/04 I found the problem! “Read this, hurricane fans, and you will learn: They don't know where Hurricane Frances is headed, yet! They are still looking at three different projections: 1. Across south Florida. You heard correctly earlier, Roan Around. 2. Into Florida and then up. This is the path they have shown. 3. Miss Florida and head for the Carolinas. After millions and millions of dollars, they are still flipping coins!” 12:06:13 AM 9/01/04 “I agree with nowslimmer...I think all the protesters in NYC this week ought to go to FL on Saturday and stand on the beach holding signs protesting the coming hurricane.” 12:08:24 AM 9/01/04 “well, ns, the 5 am update didn't do us any good - see what happens at 8:00 am. By the end of the day, we should know more about what's probably gonna happen.” 6:30:48 AM 9/01/04 “TT carcamping trip on Gemini's lawn!! complete with breakfast in tent, compliments of her husband You are so sweet to offer Gemini. Abandon Your Homes Florida People. Lock it up tight, and hit the open road. Just git outta there Now.” 7:13:33 AM 9/01/04 “lol...that would be funny!! back yard camping party...no problem. breakfast served by husband? Priceless!! Naaaa!! the breakfast part will never happen. LOL” 7:30:14 AM 9/01/04 Well Shoot “Of course it could change course - but the one it's on right now is gonna pull a Sherman across the middle of the state. Looks like Ocala and Gainesville are gonna get some this time too. Considering how Charley changed course I wonder how much of the east coast will be evacuated. Tango, NS, Roam, HPM and Tree - I'm thinkin' about you all. They said the last storm was a once in every forty year event. Or maybe once every three weeks huh. Pop-tarts and ramen and water oh my, pop-tarts and ramen and water oh my, pop-tarts and ramen and water oh my...” 7:42:48 AM 9/01/04 “yeah, O-town is gonna get the the ole one-two! Our local officials are sposed to meet at 10 am to decide about ordering evacuations of the barrier island and for people in mobile homes. I'm leaving town tomorrow afternoon - i had plans to leave town anyway, but if this thing comes onshore in St. Lucie County I don't wanna be here. Liable to be Cat 5 by the time it gets here.” 7:45:43 AM 9/01/04 “Yeah Roamy - I think we'll all feel a little more comfortable knowing that you are not riding it out. Hopefully it strays north, but if it does hit cat 5 - well - now we're talking Andrew and that is scary.” 7:52:41 AM 9/01/04 “I wish you all well down there. I cannot imagine the waiting! I hope and pray you all come through it unscathed.” 8:17:08 AM 9/01/04 “Good luck all of you. Just heard my sister and brother are evacuatiing, heading to Atlanta. Kind of scary when mother nature exerts her control.” 8:33:57 AM 9/01/04 “That last track helps me out quite a bit but still, my part of Florida is due for a hit. The last one was Dora in '64. It's just a matter of time. All the same I'd rather this one head back out and stay there. Hurricanes are a double edged sword compared to other weather phenomena. We get to see them coming a week in advance rather than getting a tornado siren shaking us out of our sleep at 2am or a wall of water and mud roaring down the valley without warning. There really is no excuse for not being ready and getting caught up in the thick of it. The flip side is that they destroy a huge swath of land. You get plenty of warning but it's going to screw up a ton of stuff.” 8:45:07 AM 9/01/04 “ 'Just git outta there Now."Where do we go? We need a little more information on this mutter! It is scheduled to slow to about 6 kts. before it get too close. As of 11 PM. last night, six of more models are in conflict predicting three different scenarios. I mentioned them in an above post. Unfortunately, the discussion at the Link has been updated and I cannot locate the previous one in the archives.” 8:53:35 AM 9/01/04 “You FL people need to remember Andrew was only a Cat 4 hurricane. This one has a good chance of being a Cat 5. I lived thru Camille back in 1969 in MS. Camile was a Cat 5. The winds didn't kill that many people, the 20+ foot storm surge did. That 20 foot wall of water destroyed everything and it went far far inland. Please don't hang around for this one. Get out if the track is coming anywhere close to you. I would say come to my house, but I may be in the same boat as you if it crosses FL. I live on the MS Sound and my house is only 17 feet above sea level. Please don't party thru this one. Watch it carefully.” 8:55:54 AM 9/01/04 “Thats the rough part of the waiting. Wondering what direction to run to.” 8:56:43 AM 9/01/04 Direction? “INLAND. Away from the storm surge!” 8:58:35 AM 9/01/04 Jump to Page << prev
