McCain and Giuliani's back to back speeches and the 9/11 tribute on tonight's Republican Convention was AMAZING! At least for me. There were emotional parts when I literally shed tears of sadness; and at times I laughed like crazy and swelled with pride. I also liked the humorous and respectful way in which they disagreed with Democrats, showing contrast between the candidates yet still going with the "positive" and "optimistic" approach of being united as Americans. They showed me why I'm a proud, American-loving Republican! Woo hoo! Seriously, I know the libs will even shred the positive messages of tonight, that's okay, this was such an awesome, positive, emotional, motivating, upbeat night that I'm SO EXCITED YAAAA and dang I hope meeeellions of Americans of all persuasions were watching. Whoever wins this election, I'll never be angry or pessimistic or pissed-off. What a great process in the greatest country on earth! Life is good®. GOOOOoooOOOOoo G.W. BUSH!!!” 12:59:38 AM 8/31/04 “The sky must be very pretty on your planet.” 1:03:06 AM 8/31/04 “and apparently the coffee is free.....” 1:06:28 AM 8/31/04 “What do republicans have to be pissed off about? Everything is going according to thier plan; we have a BS war and our soldiers are being killed for no good reason, companies are making money, rich folks are making more money, unemployment is high, the environment is getting trashed, education is taking a back seat. Hell, it's Miller Time for republicans! The only thing that could make it better is if we changed our flag and added a cross or some biblical quip!” 7:12:05 AM 8/31/04 “"I also liked the humorous and respectful way in which they disagreed with Democrats," Yoo funny guy, Buck!! Uh huh, meanwhile the smear is in gear.” 7:15:15 AM 8/31/04 “Buck, I agree that this was the GREATEST... ...exploitation of 9/11 that I have ever seen!!!!!” 8:06:51 AM 8/31/04 “Why anyone would watch the conventions is beyond me. It's all hollow rhetoric, on both sides.” 8:08:29 AM 8/31/04 “Here was my favorite line of bullsh_t from Rudolph The Red faced Liar: He recalled "seeing the flames of hell and then realizing that i was actually seeing a man - a human being - jumoing from the 101st floor" (now, here's the good part) "Spontaneously, I grabbed the arm of Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik and said to Bernie, " Thank God George Bush is our president." If only that poor guy knew what context his death was put into, I am so sure he would be comforted by that compassionate conservatism...” 8:14:57 AM 8/31/04 “I agree, Mutt, but I feel that ya kinda have to because the question of "Didn't you see so and so at the Convention? What an _________ speech!" thing always comes up. That being said, if this is going ot be another 3 days of this stuff, the Repubs are going to have to up the current in everyone's pacemakers in the room. That was about as flat of a kick off as I've seen in a real long time. Where's the *soy bomber* when ya need him to liven things up?” 8:15:52 AM 8/31/04 “"If only that poor guy knew what context his death was put into, I am so sure he would be comforted by that compassionate conservatism....." What say that guy that jumped was a Dem and saying "God Damn you, Goerge Bush!" on the way down?” 8:17:36 AM 8/31/04 “I agree with Mutt. It's pretty much all veneer. I do like the fact that the republicans show a greater diversity in their speakers. The demoncrats gave all the prime speaking spots to the Teddy Kennedys, and Algores. The RNC open up with a moderate and a pro abortion, anti-gun speakers. I do find it funny how the republicans get lambasted for “exploiting” 9/11 but sKerry gets a pass for basing his whole convention on Vietnam. But I do understand the liberal tendencies to lash out from no other reason than nervousness.” 8:25:28 AM 8/31/04 “Just calling 'em like I see 'em, Nigal. Just a good American like you!” 8:31:12 AM 8/31/04 “Mornin' Staple Boy! :)” 8:36:06 AM 8/31/04 “ping!! ping!!! ping!!” 9:09:41 AM 8/31/04 “And yes, TreeB, I would call you a good American too.” 9:17:14 AM 8/31/04 “Thank you, Nigal. Hey, I even got kudos from Mutt yesterday! Top of the world, Ma!!!” 9:22:03 AM 8/31/04 “"But I do understand the liberal tendencies to lash out from no other reason than nervousness." Nigal 08:25:28 AM How's things in La-La-Land???” 9:25:18 AM 8/31/04 “See what I mean?” 9:53:01 AM 8/31/04 “I personally liked Guiliani's comparison of Churchill & Bush. I really never thought of it before. Churchill was one of the most eloquent orators of the 20th century and Bush knows English.” 10:16:25 AM 8/31/04 “Bush knows English Pigeon English, you mean!!!” 10:20:41 AM 8/31/04 “"Bush Knows English" - La la land again ;o)” 10:21:29 AM 8/31/04 “Why anyone would watch the conventions is beyond me. It's all hollow rhetoric, on both sides." Mutt 08:08:29 AM 08/31/04 wow, I agree with Mutt..what is the world coming to I still want to see "None of the Above" on the ballot for President” 10:58:43 AM 8/31/04 “I'm voting for Bush just to tick off people like these: http://www.townhall.com/columnists/joelmowbray/jm20040831.shtml” 11:20:53 AM 8/31/04 “Hey, it might not've done much for YOU (surprise!), but I thought it was simply incredible, the best opening I've ever seen in a convention. The 9/11 stuff to me was not "exploitive" at all and in fact during the moving tribute by the three women they did not mention politicians or political parties once. It was a sincere tribute. Why would Dems complain even if they thought Repubs were exploiting 9/11? The Dems attempt to exploit the Iraq War for every drop of blood its worth, and they tried to exploit the Vietnam War for Kerry's advantage. Is everything okay for Dems, but off-limits for Repubs? To a liberal... yes. But that's what makes you guys so adorable. :Þ Liberals: Don't you Republicans even DARE say one good thing about 9/11... but we're gonna use it again and again and again to try and TEAR YOU DOWN and you better not say nuttin' because you can't even reference that event! MeeewwwhahahaHAHAHahahahaaaa! We'll slam you with movies about it, songs about it, books about it, political speeches about it... but for you 9/11 better not even touch your friggin' lips or prepare for our wrath about your intentions of exploitation! No, the RNC was a classy tribute and they talked positively about our response to 9/11 as "Americans", not as Republicans and Democrats. THAT was the emphasis.” 11:21:28 AM 8/31/04 “Why do you think they are here, Buck? If not for 9/11, they would go on treating this great city as they always have, with disdain! Now, we are stuck with many millions for US taxpayers to pick up for police overtime. 28 million or so is what they say? I wonder what the real figure is...” 11:27:25 AM 8/31/04 “Whatever it is TB, add the hospital bills for the cop the protesters beat unconcious to it.” 11:31:55 AM 8/31/04 “I don't blame them for exploiting it. The perception that GW is strong against terrorism is the main thing he's running on. Bet we don't get any information coming out about new terrorist threats during this convention though. Oh, strength and fear, there'll be the themes. The thing that gets me though was that W was supposed to be this rally figure after the attacks, when he was shipped off to a bunker in Nebraska. He was not in the thick of things until, what, a week later? Guiliani was the real rallying point for the American people not W. He was one on many heros on that day. If W had wanted to show real leadership he would have overruled the security people, as he could have done as President, and gone back to Washington and shown some real leadership on the day.” 11:40:10 AM 8/31/04 “Hey ynami, cut him some slack; he had to finish readin "My Little Goat" before he could start saving the Free World that day.” 11:45:39 AM 8/31/04 “The reason why they picked NYC is a statement to the terrorists that we will not fear terrorism nor will terrorists determine where and when we'll do what we damn well please. Giuliani said it best by saying it's a statement to the world saying that NYC and American are alive and well and open for business. You betcha. I saw a few nice things come out of the Democratic Convention and parts of it I enjoyed. I doubt the libs will find ANYTHING good in the Repub Convention no matter how uplifting and positive and optimistic and upbeat it is. Those terms seem to contradict the worldview of many* liberals. *many, but not all. Please make a note of it.” 11:53:01 AM 8/31/04 “An Axis of Evil.... no winning the war on terror, raising the fear level.... sooooo optimistic and upbeat.” 11:57:11 AM 8/31/04 “Buck, and of course they're going to try to portray that. It's the nature of the political beast. When in opposition you can't portray everything as being rosy. When you're in power you can't afford to be downbeat. You've got to convince people that "They've never had it so good."” 11:58:30 AM 8/31/04 “Republicans don't raise the fear level, terrorists do. And Repubs, IMHO, give the most optimistic and upbeat response to terrorism... preemptive attacks where THEY live, not us. If you wanna blame Republicans for evil in the world, and terrorism, that's your perogative and it's why I'd never be a liberal. I'm just too happy to be one. :^D Life is good®.” 12:00:22 PM 8/31/04 “"raising the fear level" ynamiynami 11:57:11 AM 08/31/04 This one I frankly don't get at all. Raising the fear level? governing through fear? I see Bush doing exactly the opposite. If Bush wanted everyone to have a sense of fear the convention would be held in a bunker under Sioux City, Iowa. Not in the heart of NYC. Absurd. Bush hasn't done or said anything to make feel fearful, especially not of terrorism.” 12:01:30 PM 8/31/04 “Oh, and they are heavin' the word "leadership" around. What kind of a leader can't even speak without cue-cards? aero, Dick wasn't there to tell Lil' Georgie what to do......silly boy!” 12:01:55 PM 8/31/04 “yes Buck, where they live. errrr, except maybe Iraq, or at least not many lived there until the US invaded.” 12:04:53 PM 8/31/04 “So Bison - the Reps aren't trying to portray the message that Americans can only be safe with W at the Helm then?” 12:08:16 PM 8/31/04 “BINGO, Bison! The very fact the Republican Convention is in New York City near Ground Zero shows optimism and lack of fear. I guess we should just shush it and let the libs find meaningless things to rant and rave about, it's what they do, it's who they are, it's their worldview, it's what drives them. That's cool.” 12:09:10 PM 8/31/04 “Does anyone else have a problem with the Fuego button? It seems it keeps unclicking on me and I hafta keep clicking it. We all know Fuego is why we're here in the first place. Backpacking sucks. Backpacking has lots its thrill. I just wanna talk Fuego and bang on my drum all day.” 12:14:42 PM 8/31/04 “Yes, an effective war on terror, meaninless. Millions more in poverty and without healthcare, meaningless. A confused mess in Iraq, meaningless. Being less then truthful about the reasons for going to war, meaningless. A foreign policy which has left America isolated and nearly 1,000 troops dead, meaningless. Favoring his friends in oil and logging over the environment, meaningless. Seeing oil prices hitting a record high, meaningless. Jobs being outsourced overseas, meaningless. Should I go on, there's far more to talk about - or would all those be meaningless too?” 12:16:20 PM 8/31/04 “"So Bison - the Reps aren't trying to portray the message that Americans can only be safe with W at the Helm then?" ynamiynami 12:08:16 PM 08/31/04 That's not the impression I've ever gotten, I certainly won't be fearful if Kerry is elected. While I would certainly be more pessimistic about our ability to do what needs to be done to confront intl' terrorism, I certainly won't be afraid, and I haven't seen anyone pushing the message that anyone should be.” 12:17:37 PM 8/31/04 “This place is like a fortress. For instance, on normal days (without a convention) the bomb sniffing dogs that I pass every single day getting onto the ferry are usually on the fringes. Now, they are walking them up to every person practically in your face this week. Then they practically dip the little guy into each garbage can. Don't get me wrong. I am not knocking the security, but folks, this place has about 14 cops per square block. There is not going to be any attacks here. You can't get a vehicle in and out of this city without a search. The RNC is here as a backdrop for an agenda, not to show the terrorists anything. So, they are 4 miles from Ground Zero. Do you think the absence of the buildings there are some sort of terrorist target now? In a nutshell, NO!” 12:20:52 PM 8/31/04 “You know, Bison, you are one of the more level headed and objective people on here...” 12:22:28 PM 8/31/04 “Thank you Treebeard, you're not so bad yourself. And someday when I meet you, despite our political differences, I'll remember to leave my staple gun at home :)” 12:26:28 PM 8/31/04 “Treebeard, if Repubs do anything positive it's for ulterior motives, right? Even if the most sincere, best intentions are at heart, it's still a selfish agenda? Cynical, pessmistic, skeptical, negative, no possibility of pure motives or good will. Like they say, if Bush walked on water you'd complain that he can't swim. ynami, what does all that you said have to do with the positive messages coming out of the Republican Convention and the fact you are saying the Republicans are playing on fear and raising the fear level? Nothing you said mentioned that. The other stuff is legitimate debate, and legitimate counter arguments can be made with the issues you brought up, but the conspiracy stuff is in a different realm. How YOU doin'?” 12:32:36 PM 8/31/04 “El Treebeardo, I don't know if you've been watching the Republican Convention so far, but both McCain and Giuliani said Kerry is a good guy and it's not like he'd make a "bad" President (unlike what many of the Dems say about Bush), he's just not as defined and tested and as strong a leader as Bush. That's the difference. They don't slam him personally. Giuliani, as a Republican keynote speaker, said neither Repubs nor Dems are right about everything, that both have good traits, but at a time like this Bush would be the BETTER leader, not that Kerry is rotten. McCain had nice things to say about Kerry too, but emphasized the tested and true nature of Bush at a time like this. Repubs aren't slamming Kerry and saying we'd be doomed with Kerry and that we can ONLY be safe with G-Dub, they're just uplifting Georgy as the better of the two.” 12:39:38 PM 8/31/04 “I have a semi-automatic stapler gun and I'm not afraid to use it.” 12:40:15 PM 8/31/04 “Wow! My leg is wet. Must be raining....” 12:54:35 PM 8/31/04 “I don't have the ability to keep my food down and watch the convention at the same time. So, I have to rely on reading the text. McCain's speech was not attack dog style. Guiliani's was. Sorry, but that's what I got out of it. Hey, I don't disagree with every single thing this administration has done. Most! But, not all...” 1:05:16 PM 8/31/04 “Guiliani did skewer Kerry good. It was the presentation that was great though, he skewered him in a nice way. From a purely political point of view it was a fantastic speech.” 1:11:41 PM 8/31/04 “I'm sure Buck and Bison were the first to run out and stock up on duct tape and plastic wrap...” 1:13:46 PM 8/31/04 Jump to Page |  1 | 2
