What an AWESOME Republican Convention! YAAA!

“Ohmygosh. McCain and Giuliani's back to back speeches and the 9/11 tribute on tonight's Republican Convention was AMAZING! At least for me. There were emotional parts when I literally shed tears of sadness; and at times I laughed like crazy and swelled with pride. I also liked the humorous and respectful way in which they disagreed with Democrats, showing contrast between the candidates yet still going with the "positive" and "optimistic" approach of being united as Americans. They showed me why I'm a proud, American-loving Republican! Woo hoo! Seriously, I know the libs will even shred the positive messages of tonight, that's okay, this was such an awesome, positive, emotional, motivating, upbeat night that I'm SO EXCITED YAAAA and dang I hope meeeellions of Americans of all persuasions were watching. Whoever wins this election, I'll never be angry or pessimistic or pissed-off. What a great process in the greatest country on earth! Life is good®. GOOOOoooOOOOoo G.W. BUSH!!!”

“I agree with Mutt. It's pretty much all veneer. I do like the fact that the republicans show a greater diversity in their speakers. The demoncrats gave all the prime speaking spots to the Teddy Kennedys, and Algores. The RNC open up with a moderate and a pro abortion, anti-gun speakers.

I do find it funny how the republicans get lambasted for “exploiting” 9/11 but sKerry gets a pass for basing his whole convention on Vietnam.

“Hey, it might not've done much for YOU (surprise!), but I thought it was simply incredible, the best opening I've ever seen in a convention. The 9/11 stuff to me was not "exploitive" at all and in fact during the moving tribute by the three women they did not mention politicians or political parties once. It was a sincere tribute. Why would Dems complain even if they thought Repubs were exploiting 9/11? The Dems attempt to exploit the Iraq War for every drop of blood its worth, and they tried to exploit the Vietnam War for Kerry's advantage. Is everything okay for Dems, but off-limits for Repubs? The thing that gets me though was that W was supposed to be this rally figure after the attacks, when he was shipped off to a bunker in Nebraska. He was not in the thick of things until, what, a week later? Guiliani was the real rallying point for the American people not W. He was one on many heros on that day.
If W had wanted to show real leadership he would have overruled the security people, as he could have done as President, and gone back to Washington and shown some real leadership on the day.”

I saw a few nice things come out of the Democratic Convention and parts of it I enjoyed. I doubt the libs will find ANYTHING good in the Repub Convention no matter how uplifting and positive and optimistic and upbeat it is. Those terms seem to contradict the worldview of many* liberals.

This one I frankly don't get at all. Raising the fear level? governing through fear? I see Bush doing exactly the opposite. If Bush wanted everyone to have a sense of fear the convention would be held in a bunker under Sioux City, Iowa. Not in the heart of NYC. Absurd. Bush hasn't done or said anything to make feel fearful, especially not of terrorism.”

That's not the impression I've ever gotten, I certainly won't be fearful if Kerry is elected. While I would certainly be more pessimistic about our ability to do what needs to be done to confront intl' terrorism, I certainly won't be afraid, and I haven't seen anyone pushing the message that anyone should be.”

“This place is like a fortress. For instance, on normal days (without a convention) the bomb sniffing dogs that I pass every single day getting onto the ferry are usually on the fringes. Now, they are walking them up to every person practically in your face this week. Then they practically dip the little guy into each garbage can. Don't get me wrong. Nothing you said mentioned that. The other stuff is legitimate debate, and legitimate counter arguments can be made with the issues you brought up, but the conspiracy stuff is in a different realm. How YOU doin'?”

“El Treebeardo, I don't know if you've been watching the Republican Convention so far, but both McCain and Giuliani said Kerry is a good guy and it's not like he'd make a "bad" President (unlike what many of the Dems say about Bush), he's just not as defined and tested and as strong a leader as Bush. Giuliani, as a Republican keynote speaker, said neither Repubs nor Dems are right about everything, that both have good traits, but at a time like this Bush would be the BETTER leader, not that Kerry is rotten. McCain had nice things to say about Kerry too, but emphasized the tested and true nature of Bush at a time like this. Repubs aren't slamming Kerry and saying we'd be doomed with Kerry and that we can ONLY be safe with G-Dub, they're just uplifting Georgy as the better of the two.”
