Don't get me wrong. I may miss the old days before 9/11, but I am not an unrealistic idiot, despite what some might say about me. But, you have no idea what it's been like here. I don't want to venture to say it's overkill. It's not my place to judge that. I guess I talking about a matter of degree. And, if nothing else, the point is I don't think it was even this tight after 9/11. And I spent enough time within 1/2 mile of Ground Zero in the three weeks that followed that to say that... I guess I would just like to see the RNC pick up their share of the tab, is all. I mean, they gave 50 million dollars and the estimated overage (before the convention started) was 28 million above. I just don't see how, combined with lossses in business, that the city could make something like 250 million dollars, like Bloomie said we would. There would have to be qan incredible amount of spending in other area that went on (that we haven't really heard about) to make up a sum of money. So, in the interest of fairness, I will keep an open mind and would actually like to be proven wrong on that point. If I am not, then the RNC should pick up the tab (but that won't happen, IMO)” 8:46:23 AM 9/03/04 “I just check the Rasmussen Reports Home page and Bush ticked up a mear 2 points yesterday and they will release their results after 12:00pm today. Zogy still has them in a tie. I guess we'll just half to wait until later on to get updated information.” 8:49:58 AM 9/03/04 “Tree - NYC still under "code orange"?” 8:52:10 AM 9/03/04 “Again, the pool of undecideds does not appear to be THAT huge. A lot of folks have their minds made up already. So, the convention will offer its bounce, as usual, but I think what lies ahead is what will tell. I, too, am looking forward to the debates. I admit that I did not watch either convention, as those things usually have a detrimental gastric effect on me, but the debates I usually watch very carefully. The race is so tight that a small percent of undecided voters could tip it either way...” 8:54:23 AM 9/03/04 “Bear, NYC has never left 'orange' since 9/11” 8:55:03 AM 9/03/04 “Tree - I know yer not complaining and I thank you for your insight. I have never been to NYC, my wife has a couple of times pre-9/11, but hasn't been back since. Both of these conventions had a "police state" look to them and I guess for good reason. An interesting point: I wonder how much money has been spent on the WTO since 9/11 over all? I'm not suggesting scaling back by any means, I just think it would be interesting to see ust how much money we've spent, verses out success rate. A dollar per deterant analysis, if you will. Detroit is looking to host a convention as well as the All-Star game and Super Bowl inthe next couple of years. Our encomony here, if it stays the way it is now, couldn't take the amount of hit that NYC just (might) take. This, the Dems (did Boston loose money?) and the Athens huge loss will have an effect on cities that want host these types of events.” 9:00:15 AM 9/03/04 “Disagree with Shrub and get tossed. What a country. Ja wohl herr Schrub, ich bin ein gut Nazi!” 9:07:46 AM 9/03/04 “Did anyone hear the protesters as they marched chanting "Shut the Fox up!"? I guess they hate free speech...while they are expressing their free speech.” 9:08:53 AM 9/03/04 “"Disagree with Shrub and get tossed. What a country. Ja wohl herr Schrub, ich bin ein gut Nazi!" Who got tossed Geo?” 9:09:50 AM 9/03/04 “Two people who voiced opposition to the Iraq war.” 9:10:53 AM 9/03/04 Protester escorted off floor on Thursday, from CNN “ ”9:15:23 AM 9/03/04 “"Two people who voiced opposition to the Iraq war." Oh, OK, so they were hecklers who were disrupting the proceedings and not just someone who simply disagreed with Bush then. That’s clearer. How is this Nazi like? Is this to suggest that the DNC would have stopped and opened the floor to a heckler to speak their mind?” 9:15:45 AM 9/03/04 “Vat ve haff here is ein failure to not communicate!” 9:16:08 AM 9/03/04 “"Disagree with Shrub and get tossed. What a country. Ja wohl herr Schrub, ich bin ein gut Nazi!" Geobeet 09:07:46 AM 09/03/04 Meanwhile let's ignore the fact that anti-Kerry protesters were tossed from his rally last night. A few hypocrites around here?” 9:16:11 AM 9/03/04 “Bison, with all the tight security in the hall, these were not Kerry supporters, but GOP delegates being tossed from their own party's convention. We're not talking about demonstrators outside the hall here.” 9:18:17 AM 9/03/04 “BTW - Last week Kerry said he would still vote for the War knowing that there were no WMD. Last night Kerry said Bush "misled us into Iraq" What the hell is this guy gonna say when Bush asks him in a debate what his position is? He's gonna say "Um well I really think what we have to understand here is.........." That's where the voters leave off because he's already blown it. That's when this election fight will essentially be over.” 9:19:43 AM 9/03/04 “"Vat ve haff here is ein failure to not communicate!" No you made yourself very clear Geo… ""Disagree with Shrub and get tossed. What a country. Ja wohl herr Schrub, ich bin ein gut Nazi!" You stated that some people were dragged out because they didn’t agree with Bush and this makes him a Nazi. Then you went on to admit that they were hecklers unlawfully disrupting the event… "Two people who voiced opposition to the Iraq war." It’s very clear.” 9:21:20 AM 9/03/04 “"Bison, with all the tight security in the hall, these were not Kerry supporters, but GOP delegates being tossed from their own party's convention. We're not talking about demonstrators outside the hall here." Geobeet 09:18:17 AM 09/03/04 Excuse me Geo? There have been several avowed Kerry supporters who got through security by going through the process to volunteer. What the hell makes you say that these were delegates?” 9:21:34 AM 9/03/04 “Geo - THat was one of the things that really got to me about last night, as it was very telling. Conventions used to be the pit of disagreement. People for conventiona past would have piss and terse words all this time! Delegates used to walk out of the house to show protest. Last night's action was appaling, to say the least. It flies in the face of Democracy. The yellow hats didn't have to wisk her away like that. Where do we draw the line now? Don't say anything or you'll wind up in jail? Is this what the P.A. has brought us? Quick question: Does the sitting President still have to go through the delegate nomination process from their party?” 9:22:41 AM 9/03/04 “Also - Very good jobs report this morning. Sorry Senator.” 9:23:29 AM 9/03/04 “Does the sitting President still have to go through the delegate nomination process from their party?" laqtis 09:22:41 AM 09/03/04 Yes, the networks don't cover the roll calls anymore because we already know who's gonna win.” 9:24:50 AM 9/03/04 “I ♥ Outsourcing” 9:26:16 AM 9/03/04 “Then you went on to admit that they were hecklers unlawfully disrupting the event… Nigal, your reading skills are a bit off today. I said no such thing.” 9:28:28 AM 9/03/04 “"What the hell is this guy gonna say when Bush asks him in a debate what his position is?" My guess is he’ll try the old Verison Wireless tactic. You know the commercials they run? Moderator: Where do you stand on the Iraq war? Kerry: Ummmm…thank you?” 9:28:49 AM 9/03/04 “Why was it we went into Iraq again....Oh yea, WMD. It seems we were misled. Just because someone was in favor of the war doesn't mean they would have gone in the same way, at the same moment, without trying to get more members in the coalition...etc. I know thats difficult to understand, but try. There are many military commanders that wanted to go in as well, just not like Rummy did it.” 9:51:13 AM 9/03/04 “Thanks bison. I saw it at the Dem, but at this one. I wasn't implying anything FYI. I was just curious on proceeeeeeeedure.” 9:52:37 AM 9/03/04 “Rasmussen Reports Home page has now updated it's data to reflect a massive jump of 4, count'em 4 percentage points! Bush now leads Kerry by 4, count'em 4 percentage points. Now THAT'S a bounce! The bad thing is that Rasmussen Reports Home page doens't list the margin of error, so it's a bad poll. Oh well, I'll have to find info esle where. I didn't otice that untl this last update. Too bad. I was really ready to switch parties!” 9:58:14 AM 9/03/04 “Laqtis, That's a rolling poll, you won't know the actual bounce in that poll until Monday. BTW I believe the MOE is 3.5 for that one.” 10:01:37 AM 9/03/04 “From the poll site: "Only a handful of interviews for today's update were completed following the President's speech last night. Monday's report will be the first based entirely upon data collected after that speech."” 10:02:54 AM 9/03/04 “The MOE is actually +/- 3.0” 10:04:40 AM 9/03/04 “Kerry yesterday place a 50 million dollar order for campaign spots to run in all battle ground states. This goes against traditional ways, and the biggest down payment on spots in history. We haven't heard that much from Kerry, because he's been holding and saving his money for the push you will start to see today, if you live in the battleground states. The swifties are gonna get it, as well as the President. Starting today, the gloves come off, as Kerry has gobbled up massive amounts of air time. Bush only goes two weeks at a time and will be a terrible disadvantage. Say goooooooodbye to what ever small bounce the right is getting.” 10:07:12 AM 9/03/04 “I didn't it listed, bison, but I'll take yer word for it, as long as it can be refe'd later. You bring up an interesting point - How is it that the next day after the Dem Convention, the polls were out, yet on this one, we have to wait until Monday? So ten this "bounce" is a little premature at this point? Maybe it's just with this site. It will be interesting to see what the bounce really is!” 10:11:31 AM 9/03/04 “You think this is a good thing? Bush still has more money to spend on ads, and he's not locked in. If Kerry builds a huge lead in one state, but is getting clobbered in another he can't shift ad dollars now. Bush can. Good Luck.” 10:11:40 AM 9/03/04 “And here I thought Kerry was against the negative ads...” 10:12:06 AM 9/03/04 “How is it that the next day after the Dem Convention, the polls were out, yet on this one, we have to wait until Monday? So ten this "bounce" is a little premature at this point? laqtis 10:11:31 AM 09/03/04 There should be polls out for Sunday. This poll is no different than it was for Kerry, you didn't know the track poll bounce for Kerry until the Monday after his convention because the poll is based on a rolling average. The MOE for the poll is at the bottom of the page.” 10:13:53 AM 9/03/04 “"If Kerry builds a huge lead in one state, but is getting clobbered in another he can't shift ad dollars now....." Bison - he has only put a down payment on spots in all of hte battleground states. He still has about 20 million or so in reserve for the final 2 weeks of the run. Concidering the amount of attacks Kerry has endured, it is suprising that he isn't further down in the polls. If this convention doesn't give the knockout bounce of at least 10-12 points, it sez a lot about the swings out there. Remember, Kerry has just reserved the spots, has not developed the ads, big difference. There is no doubt that the chit is going to hit hte fan, but IMHO, it was a good move not to fall into a "spy vs spy" thing over the swifties. The amount of money spent on that ad verses the amont of money spent to defend against it would have been in Bushes favor. Speaking of, I know you guys realize, but I will bring up again, the fact that Bush has come out and said that as far as he is concerned, Kerry didn't lie about anything. So, with that, it kinda makes the swifties look bad if the guy Kerry is runing against even sez he didn't lie. It looks like the swifties have an agenda and are rabid. This will hurt more than help in the long run.” 10:20:42 AM 9/03/04 “Geobeet. There were several protesters arrested in the convention hall. Where did you get the idea that there were none?” 10:21:47 AM 9/03/04 “"There should be polls out for Sunday. This poll is no different than it was for Kerry, you didn't know the track poll bounce for Kerry until the Monday after his convention because the poll is based on a rolling average. The MOE for the poll is at the bottom of the page......" Ah CRAP! You mean we'll have to wait until Sunday!?!? Matt's gonna half ta up his server space! I didn't see the margin at teh bottom the first time. Thanks for pointing that out, BTW.” 10:23:43 AM 9/03/04 “I thought the Bush speech was a good one, well written and delivered. Oh course it was full of half-truths, but what could we expect.” 10:26:22 AM 9/03/04 “Now you know why conventions end on Thursday... So the pollers can do a new poll Friday evening into Saturday morning, spend Saturday doing the calculations, and have it all ready to be released for the Sunday morning talk shows. The media outlets sponsor most of the polls and this way they can use it to advertise for those Sunday morning shows.” 10:27:59 AM 9/03/04 “and short on specifics, Y2. Very general speech. Buck must not have approved of it, because there's no money shot on the thread.” 10:29:09 AM 9/03/04 “"I thought the Bush speech was a good one, well written and delivered. Oh course it was full of half-truths, but what could we expect." Oh so the new guy chimes in! At least you are a big enough man to give points for grammer. :)” 10:30:21 AM 9/03/04 “"Oh course it was full of half-truths, but what could we expect." Y2 10:26:22 AM 09/03/04 Well as long as he got beyond Kerry's quarter-truths :) or were they third-truths? maybe they were half-truths too? Oh well, there will probably be a different ration tommorow.” 10:30:35 AM 9/03/04 “ration = ratio” 10:31:09 AM 9/03/04 “alrighty kids. The lawn and basement are calling me name. You all play nice now and someone please make sure bacpac doesn't eat anymore paint chips.....!” 10:35:37 AM 9/03/04 “Half truths and quarter thruths? My favorite part of Uncle Dick's speech was this... "On Iraq, Senator Kerry has disagreed with many of his fellow Democrats. But Senator Kerry's liveliest disagreement is with himself. His back-and-forth reflects a habit of indecision, and sends a message of confusion. And it is all part of a pattern. He has, in the last several years, been for the No Child Left Behind Act and against it. He has spoken in favor of the North American Free Trade Agreement and against it. He is for the Patriot Act and against it. Senator Kerry says he sees two Americas. It makes the whole thing mutual — America sees two John Kerrys."” 10:44:00 AM 9/03/04 “Dang! For a party that constantly labels reasoned opposition as ‘hatred’, you guys sure eat up the real thing. It was really a lovely show. I couldn’t ask for a better display of what the Republican party has become. It’s sure to turn off all but the mouth breathers in this country.” 11:02:32 AM 9/03/04 “Ah! There’s that superiority complex I always look forward to from you V! Keep it coming! :)” 11:07:26 AM 9/03/04 “bacpac, this is an extremely complex concept to understand, but try to follow: Outside hall: protestors Inside hall: delegates with credentials” 11:22:12 AM 9/03/04 Jump to Page << prev
