Democrats are horrible dressers. You would at least think they gay contingent would have a good dresser or two in the crowd.

*pets his Kenneth Coles*

DeoreDx wears designer suits in 90 degree, humid weather?

No thanks!!

Who said you have to wear a suit to be well dressed and presentable? Horribly out of date prints, non-coordinating colors, people dressed like they were in a Sex Pistols video, offensive lauguage on tee shirts, etc.

What the fluck is a Kenneth Coles???

It's a freakin' protest, ferchrissakes! Not a fashion show. If they were dressed well, what other 'major point' would you pick them apart for?

The "My idea of grooming is having my mate pick the fleas from my hair" look is in this year at the RNC protests.
DeoreDX

..and the "my idea of a shower is more patchouli oil". Don't forget the patchouli!

All kidding aside.
People bearing crude slogans, wearing missle phalluses, and assorted other fringe elements that your average American turns off from harms the effectiveness of the delivery of the message.

You're right, HPM! Crudeness like that belongs in one place! The Senate floor!!!

I see your point, HPM. And, right now, it's a polarized country. Those are some pretty fed up folks out there, whether you agree with them or not. Protest marches get pretty heated up. I still commend these folks for acting in a civilized fashion in 90 degree heat and considering the levels of emotions that I, first hand, felt out there. Hey, the messages got a little crude for your taste? I will respect that, but understand the nature of the beast.
Treebeard

mmm interesting that my thread in no longer a chatter thread.
mapleleaf
10:37:06 AM
8/31/04

Umm...no that wasn't my point at all. And weather I agree with the message or not has not been stated and is irrelevant to the discussion.

My only point is that in order to for a message to reach more people and stick, (regardless the message) the tone and delivery needs to not be outrageous. Otherwise you are guaranteed to be dismissed as evidenced above. Granted some folks will never be open to the message.
humanpackmule

I took the pics.
I only took the ones that IIII thought were funnie. No getting down on tree for it.

there were many things that I found upstting, like the 1000 coffins at the end of the march. enough said.
mapleleaf

8/31/04

I fail to see how I am getting down on anyone. It certainly isn't my intention.

Allright, nevermind. I guess untill November anything mentioned about anything remotely related political is going to be assumed as an attack rather than an attempt at civil discourse.

There are a few of us here that aren't raging partisans.
humanpackmule

8/31/04

I'm not saying it's right, but I will maintain that the idea of a little shock value is nothing new in getting a message across. Hell, the Bush and Kerry campaigns are subscribing to this every day, just as the Swift kick the ass Veterans are also. Gentle messages are passe. Again, I am not pleased with the fact that society has become like this. But, negativity is rampant. And, it sells. So, why is anyone surprised that there are negative messages at this march?
Treebeard
10:49:54 AM
8/31/04

HPM, I'm with ya. Any innocent comment and you're raining on someones parade, literally.

The way I interpretted his comment was that if they look like a bunch of freaks then middle America will likely react against that look.

Is there a point hidden in there somewhere, DH?
Treebeard
11:00:18 AM
8/31/04

Treebeard....
...when you acknowledge the negative notions in our society, then you allow for it's existence...however...if you ignore it or stand up and say "I don't like this" then it struggles to survive. This is how moral breakdown occurs. The antidote lies within the truth and if it isn't right...then one is obligated to stand against it otherwise they are simply a shallow transparent personality without integrity.

I guess HPM is right. Yall don't get his point.
dayhiker
11:03:48 AM
8/31/04

I already told you that I am not defending it. Matter of fact, I denounced the tendency towards negativity. If you look at the pics and resist the temptation to just make fun of us (note the negativity of the comments above despite the fact that the march was conducted in a compeletly law abiding way), you will also notice that I am not carrying anythig that can be deemed negative. I practiced what I preached. You are giving me too much power, ny friend. All I said was that this is the nature of the beast. i was not defending it. Please re-read...
Treebeard

No, DH. I got hi loud and clear. My question was towards you and how you derived your interpretation...

My only point was that HPM wasn't directly attacking anyone and just making an observation. I guess that's all I was doing too. I certainly wasn't trying to debate any point or issue.
