Hating Gaston

Remnants of tropical storm Gaston gave us way too much rain Sunday as we drove home from Florida to Pennsylvania. I hate driving in the rain. Not fun.

Finally we won the race--got north of it, left it behind.

Then last night, it caught up to us and dumped quite a lot of rain on my little town. So much that the water spurted in through cracks and holes in the cinderblock wall of my basement, jumping over the drain which would have taken the water to the sump pump. Wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that the basement is finished...I can't see, much less seal, the wall leaks....so the water runs under the "finish" wall and soaks my carpet and anything sitting on it.

   I hate Gaston.
   And I hate my life.
And if it weren't for my kids.....

Sorry, listening to too much country these days...

Fritz, could you have someone dig down around your foundation and then tar it?

Three people parished here in Virginia from flooding caused by Gaston at it passed through. Extensive damage in Richmond and surrounding communities. Heavy rains here in Fredericksburg as well, but no significant damage.

We only have this problem like once every 5 or 6 years.

If I had any money....I'd look into what was cheaper, sealing from the outside or taking the walls down and sealing from the inside.

As it is...I don't expect to live there a whole lot longer. My wife might, but I will probably be out within a year.

Oops.

Up here we do it from the outside because of freezing.

Take care, man,

Sorry to hear that Fritz.

You're horse didn't throw you, did it. :-)

Keep you're chin up. These are tests. You'll pass.

The best way is to seal from the outside, but that can be really expensive. Usually, the cheap way is to seal the inside, but since you've got finish work down there, it does make the decision harder. Since you already have a French drain though, sealing the inside would probably be acceptable.

I may consider taking out just the sections of the wall where I know there is a problem. There are really just two problem areas.

One of them is in my office and there is a nice large built-in desk and some shelving that would have to be disassembled in order to get the wall down.

Any way I look at it, it is a major project which I don't have the money or emotional energy to tackle.

Oh well. Enough whining for today.

I understand the emotional issue thing. You're too drained to really consider any big project. But sometimes working on a physical project can be emotionally liberating. I've worked through some hard times quite effectively by doing something like painting. Physical labor can be really effective therapy sometimes.

Fritz needs a doctor
Fritz, let Dr. Kleenman help you out! Sounds like you need alittle attitude adjustment. It's nothing that Dr. Kleenman, a stack of dollar bills, and an evening at Suzy's Lounge can't handle!

Hee hee, never been there but I know where Suzy's is, and I have seen that dollar bill thingy in the movies, but who is Dr. Kleenman?

Dr. Kleenman?
Ask Geobeet.

He's my friend... The Proctologist!

Seriously... you don't live that far, if you want to get together for dinner or a drink, let me know.
