France is reputed to have the best rations. Canadian are surprisingly good, but heavy.

Three words: Civil War hardtack. Think of a biscuit that has the consistency of a brick. Had to be soaked before it could be eaten.

An old Royal Navy trick was to bang hardtack on the table to knock out the insects first (why do I know that?).

Those bisquits are in the modern german rations too. The soldiers call them "Panzerplatte".

Dehydrated egg
There is good dehydrated egg on amazon.com called Ova Easy eggs. They taste way better than freeze dried!
