Nigal.
If you want dried shrimp, you can get them at most Asian Grocery Stores. If you want to make them easier to re-hydrate, put them in a food processor to grind them up a bit... :-)
They come in a variety of sizes-- you may want to test them out first--some are saltier than others...

Oh, and I believe you can also get dried scallops as well....

I can't remember who it was, but they recommended adding vegetable dry soup mix to any meal to add veggies. I tried this and it was very tasty. The soup mix had dried veggies in it and they rehydrated nicely.

Thanks - whoever you are...

Veggie soup, or "Just Veggies" works well, too! :-)

My hubby & I try not to consume too much MSG, so we tend to opt for the Just Veggies... (he has a sensitivity to onions and almost all soups have onions in them!)

Birch always ads instant soup mixes to plain cous-cous and it always lookes so good.

soup & cous cous. sounds good and cheaper than buying the packaged stuff. I bet that would be good with instant taters too. I love instant taters.

Isn't cous cous like pastina, which is tiny itty bitty egg pasta? My grandmother used to make it for me in soup when I was a kid. I don't think I have had it since.

Although a little more expensive, Groceries have couscous in preseasoned packages . They rock and are prefect for two people. I believe the brand is Zatarain.

I found a reference to haba-jala mix in one of Sgt Rocks's posts on White Blaze. When I googled it this is what I came up with -

This company makes a variety of spice capsules. Kind of interesting. Anyone use them?

OK, tell me where to locate (for free at a resturant): Maple syrup and Lemon Juice

Syrup is at McDonalds but I don't trust the packaging.

I think Wendy's has lemon juice packets. It's been awhile since I've been there though. They do have great chili oil packets for their chili. Hot!

McD's syrup is not "Maple". It is corn syrup and such.

I carry the real stuff in a small, flip-top squeeze bottle (~2 oz)I purchased at the craft store. I put the small bottle in a snack size ziplock just for extra protection against leakage. The little bottles are good for real honey too (KFC's honey is corn syrup.)

I have found lemon juice packets at Subway. And you can usually find a good score for stuff like that at continental breakfasts at hotels.

i have "grade a" syrup i was going to bring but decided to save the weight of the container and see if i could find mapley syrup akin to chocolatey chip cookies (no chocolate) or cherry pie (not "cherries" but cherry singuar). i may carry a dropper bottle with syrup still but if i can avoid all that weight i will.

i forgot about sarbar's web site which is dumb of me. thanks for reminding me ss.

i can buy lemon juice packets for $2.xx for 6 on the web (+ shipping) but that would be an awful waste. I know you can get the stuff in little plastic packets but i don't want to have to fly on an airline to get some.

That's one of the benefits of working at a hospital with a large cafeteria...lots of condiment choices on your way out the door !!

Recently they added Mrs. Dash and chili pepper packages! Woot!

I love Minimus-the fun part about a $20 order? You'll never want for stuff for a looong time ;-)

Lemon juice packets? Often at grocery store delis. Maple syrup? I have to agree-carry the real stuff, though you can get fake syrup at McDonalds, Burger King, Jack In The Box, etc.

I have a friend that works in a hospital, so I have been getting Mrs. Dash packets now, love those!

not really a food find, but a good recipe for take along food. I'd have to add potato and cheese to it...

I like peas, and I like wasabi, but for some reason the two combined don't sound like a very good snack.

Speaking of wasabi, I've been having a real hankering for sushi!! I wonder if I'm allowed to eat the cooked kind...the only reason I can think of not to is that maybe it could touch the raw fish? hmm.
