But looks handy to have in the fridge.” 3:38:33 PM 1/30/08 “why would anyone use squeeze herbs when they dry so well. I don't get it.” 3:41:00 PM 1/30/08 “convenience” 3:43:36 PM 1/30/08 “I still don't get it. I use dried herbs all the time and would never even think of squeeze herbs. But to each their own.” 3:55:47 PM 1/30/08 “Q. Can I use Gourmet Garden if I have Diabetes? A. Yes you can. The amount should be based on our recommend serving size and your recommended dietary intake of total sugars. Our serving size is located on the back of our packaging. That really makes me wonder. How much sugar is in that stuff and why? Maybe I'll check it out if I see it just for kicks and giggles.” 4:10:09 PM 1/30/08 “You can start a fire with that chili pepper, but it's go^od.” 4:23:54 PM 1/30/08 “why would anyone use squeeze herbs when they dry so well. I don't get it.” ramblinrev 6:41:00 PM 1/30/08 spoken like somone who's never used fresh herbs ;)” 5:03:20 AM 1/31/08 “my wife has an herb garden most of the year. So we have what we need fresh. But for packing, no I don't use fresh.” 5:04:35 AM 1/31/08 “Awhile back my Aunt was serving coronas, and gave me a packet of True Lime crystalized lime, instead of the real thing. It tastes like lime, not all artificial or anything. So, I sent off for a free sample , and got two each of lime, lemon ad orange. Very good added to water, just right for vodka tonics, perfect for preparing fish and adding to food. Each packet is .8g (www.truelemon.com)” 5:25:26 AM 2/16/08 “Not sure it qualifies as a "food" find....but ChicFil-A has the little packs of Tabasco (like mustard or ketchup comes in). I stopped for a sandwhich the other day and boosted a bag full. Guess they thought I must like my chicken sandwhich HOT.” 6:20:45 AM 2/16/08 “Tobasco is a food group... or so I was taught” 9:24:47 AM 2/16/08 “hey, for sure that qualifies as a food find. you can buy those at minimus but the chicfila angle is a better one!” 9:30:52 AM 2/16/08 “ This is the type of instant "rice vermicelli" or rice noodles that I was talking about. Tasty, and a lot better than for you than ramen... **************************** “Pink, I picked up all 3 last month. They are very good! Easy to pack as well.....” sarbar1 5:49:15 PM 1/10/08 Yes, I'm addicted to those chicken and beef broth packs from Trader Joe's! I have them all of the time in the afternoon when I need a pick-me-up but not a lot of calories... :-) BTW-- I have invented a poor woman's version of hot and sour soup using the broth packets... Take 1 or 2 chicken broth packets add 1-2 cups of water Add 2 or 3 hot sauce packets (depending on how hot you like things--the vinegar in the hot sauce make it "sour") Add ground pepper Optional: If you have udon noodles (they come in the non-refrigerated version in a lot of Japanese grocery stores) or instant rice noodles, you can add those to your soup as well. ![]() The Mori-Nu tofu in a hermitically sealed box could also be added to the soup... Cheap. Quick, quite tasty even for a office lunch.” 2:49:14 PM 2/22/08 “I concur. Those rice noodles are great. Makes a great soup.” 2:53:52 PM 2/22/08 “Thanks for the tip on the noodles. Buying good noodles is the key to good ramen. the egg noodles (not the crappy flour noodles you get at the regular grocery store) are what makes ramen good. I lived with a Cambodian my first year of undergrad and he taught me in the ways of good noodles. If you go to an asian market, look for the Tsung-I brand and what you want is the onion flavor (egg). These are the best ramen noodles I have ever had over the counter.” 2:57:40 PM 2/22/08 “Pink, I still love those noodle packets. Ford eats them quite often :-) Di and I were out shopping today (we do shopping for our blogs often together)and were laughing in that even in health stores you get a massive aisle of ramen! ”8:06:49 PM 2/22/08 “Then again...a couple weeks ago we found these scary canned faux hot dogs. Di posing with them ;-P ”8:12:39 PM 2/22/08 “How is it that I still don't go to freezerbagcooking.com?” 6:29:18 PM 2/24/08 “Hey! For those of you who are "Spingles" fans ( Spam singles ) Giant food has them on sale 10 for $10.00 Woohoo!” 11:34:18 AM 2/25/08 ““Pink, I still love those noodle packets. Ford eats them quite often :-) Di and I were out shopping today (we do shopping for our blogs often together)and were laughing in that even in health stores you get a massive aisle of ramen! ” sarbar1 9:06:49 PM 2/22/08\ Those Thai Kitchen noodles really ROCK!!! They are rice noodles and not the flour-based Ramen. Taste a lot better.... :-) Plus, I'm pretty sure that they do not add a lot of MSG to their products.... Oh my... I found a really yummy looking link for Thai noodle dishes. (Not backpacking meals, but look yummy anyways!) http://www.thaifoodplus.com/b_Thai_Noodles.php This recipe, however sounds doable on the trail: http://messycooks.com/?p=85” 1:06:42 PM 3/04/08 bought 3 new bacpacker pantry meals “southwestern smoked salmon pasta italian beef pasta thai satay with beef all 3 are mega-portions, with 2 12-14 oz servings in each pouch” 9:03:56 PM 7/31/08 “... and ...” 9:26:15 PM 7/31/08 “i bet i know where you are going to be testing those out! i should bring pros smoked salmon pasta recipe with me and we can see who eats better that evening! i can't see capers freeze drying very well. ;)” 5:51:59 AM 8/01/08 “They also have Black Bean Tamale Pie and Katmandu Curry---all available at your local Gander Mountain store. :)” 5:59:05 AM 8/01/08 “oh i'm sorry, s-rge. i suppose you have more exciting hiking news. oh, right. youd have to actually hike. nevermind” 5:59:32 AM 8/01/08 “Local Gander Mountain? Well I guess that's about 70 miles closer than REI.” 6:06:23 AM 8/01/08 ““They also have Black Bean Tamale Pie and Katmandu Curry---all available at your local Gander Mountain store. :)” Nonconformist 6:59:05 AM 8/01/08 Better double up on the TP if you're packing that for a weekend trip.” 11:44:28 AM 8/01/08 Jump to Page << prev
