If it is Savannah GA. You have to eat at The Pirate House. Great seafood and it is where Robert Louis Steavenson wrote part of Tresure Island. It is also supposed to be haunted by Captain Flint's ghost. Like Ewker said Tybee Island is also very cool. place too.

They shot the park bench scenes of the movie Forrest Gump at one of the squares there. I think there is a sign that says which one.

Also, check out the old cemetary on the outskirts of town. Ask any local what I am refering to and they will point you in the right direction. Very cool!

WK, I went to one old cemetary and it was considered to be in the historical district of Savannah. It was only a few blocks from the vistors info center. Lots of really neat houses down there.

Yea! I was at that one too! During the Union Army's occupation of Savannah, the troops moved a lot of the headstones to make room for their tents. The headstones were left in the original positions the army left them.

Also, I believe in the north east corner of the cemetery was a site used by peeps back in the day who would challenge duel's

However, I am taking notes from this thread so that when I do go I'll have a plan ¦ ) .

Tybee Island is pretty awesome. There is a seafood restaurant on the way there that I really enjoyed. Can't remember it's name, but it is on the way from Savannah to Tybee Island. It sits back in the trees and is pretty big, can't miss it.

I ate at that place. It was really good. Wasn't it called Alice's or something? It's right off of that main road right before you get to the island on the left right?

I think your talking about Williams Seafood. If that is it I wasn't that impressed. AJ's Dockside on Tybee Island is also over rated.

Opie, head to River Rd. Those bars are not trendy, well some aren't.

its River Street...i believe it has a hilton hotel at one end and it comes in handy when you make the rounds throught bars there...if the bars on river street are too "upscale" then pardner you need to locate a place in Jacksoville, GA called Boone's Saloon. Chain link barbed wire fence and only one way in and out...its a blast..grew up with the people that own it...but wait if they ask if you want to go check out the river its not a real good thing...

There's more shops and restaraunts in City Market. Belmont's is one of the best. On the way out to Tybee, there's a little town called Thunderbolt where local fishhouses serve the freshest catch of the day. And there's a new place on the road out to Tybee called the crab shack or crazy crab that has the best she-crab soup you'll ever eat.

OK, we're going to Savannah the weekend before Christmas. We'll be there Saturday-Monday. Anybody have any ideas for stuff a 17 year old boy might like? The trip is a Christmas present for The Boye.

No pressure, but he's having his wisdom teeth out when we get back and we want to make this extra special just in case that messes up Christmas for him. So make the suggestions GOOD!

if he likes to kayak do that. Sea kayak of georgia is on Tybee Island.
They have a ghost walking tour. Rent or take bikes to tour the city. The street by the river has lots of good places to eat.

Cool, thanks! Anybody have any more ideas? We'll have nearly 3 whole days to fill and I'd like to have lots of alternate options. So far all I've been able to come up with on my own is the narrated cruise and the haunted graveyard tour.

Ghost tour was the bomb! He'll like that! I rented a "sit on top" kayak from a place across the street from Seak Kayak of GA - paddled to a little lighthouse. Was nice!

If he likes neat graveyards, visit Bonaventure - real neat!

Lessee.. what else did I do when I was there? I drank...
hmmm.. have breakfast at the Breakfast Club. That place was awesome!! Real nice diner and the cooks are rowdy - try to sit at the diner if you can..

The Breakfast Club. This is a world famous breakfast place that you simply don't want to miss. This restaurant is only open for breakfast but always draws a large crowd. There is typically a line forming out front of the restaurant to get a table. You'll pay $6-10 a plate here. 1500 Butler Avenue. 786-5984.

There is a family style restaurant that's on the travel channel a good bit. Mrs. Wilkes Boarding house, I think. I was there in '92 or so for a Habitat for Humanity build and the line was out the door for that restaurant. It was there in the 60's when my folks lived there and was busy then too.

The ghost tour was the first thing I thought of.

Does he like kayaking/outdoors types of things?

Isn't there a Navy sub base there? Maybe they have a sub museum like Pensacola has the flight museum?

He's never been kayaking but he loves canoeing. That Breakfast Club sounds a lot like a place we went to in San Fran that he really liked.

That Navy sub thing sounds worth checking out.

So far I've got Saturday afternoon and evening and Monday morning covered. That leaves all day Sunday. Thanks for the new leads!

My wife and I are heading down to Savannah next month and I found a cool website called POIfriend.com where you can download tour routs of points of interest to your gps. They have a cool walking tour of Savannah there.

It's been a while since I've been there, but I really enjoyed my trip.

Look for Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House for a lunch one day. Tilt should be able to chime in since he's about an hour away from there.

Check the menu boards outside the River Street restraunts/bars around supper time. Most offer excellent specials, ie, bucket of oysters (you shuck'em - fun!) and a pitcher of beer <$10.00.

My only time in Savannah was awesome except for the one dinner. I ordered blackened Mahi Mahi at one of the restauraunts on the river walk. Instead of a fillet, they served my mahi mahi as a steak and in order to get the inside done they had to pretty much char all of the seasonings..

It was terrible...

Got into town after a 12 hour drive. I'm brain dead but too hyped up on caffeine to sleep. I got all the brochures from the hotel and trying to put together a plan for the week. I wanna do the kayaking and some shark fishing if it's not too expensive. this is a bad town to be in if you're on a diet!

I live upriver in North Augusta (about a 2 hour trip). River Street is the party place, no doubt, but good food is also to be found out torward Tybee Island and near the mall out on Abercorn St. Ask any local as it is easy to find. The movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was also filmed there. Lot's of historical sites. Tilt, skullcap, mile monster; what part of Augusta you guys from?

I'm exhausted! We did the trolley car tour of the city and then spent all afternoon down at Factors Walk and River St. If I have to go into one more t-shirt shop! LOL! We did go hit The Lady & Sons for lunch. I had the buffet but controlled myself. Some of the best fried chicken, sweet potatoes and ho cakes I've ever had. Paula Dean's place lives up to the hype.

Came back to the motel and had a nice swim and reading a good book by the pool before we go out for a ghost tour.

Yep.   MileMonster split town --- his wife was at the Medical College.   I think Sku11cap went into witness protection.   LtDan/XL666 hangs out at the Latta Outdoors site (listed below under 'Other').

I just keep a Low Profile ---- too many psychos on the interwebs, donchaknow!

oh....   and "thirdterm" is my Halloween costume 'til the end of the month.

PS   I think Savannah is somewhere downstream....   but that's about all I can remember from St. Patrick's 1985.

PPS   Hilton Head was waycool in the 60s, but was subsequently trashed.

PPPS   Just got an email alert from spaceweather.com.   A ten-foot rock is supposed to enter the atmosphere over Sudan tonight.  It ought to be a Blast -----
