Great little book
NoOw that I got you attention I want to tell everyone about a great little devotional book. It is by Nathan Chapman and is called "With God on the HIking Trail". It has 54 readings and is really great. This guy is an avid hiker and puts differnet things in prospective. It is by Harvest House Publishers. I plan on carrying it with me and sharing with others. "I am and remain, The Dodder."

Same thing that happened to sepration of politics and TT. They just happen to be on the same thread together. Makes sense...the two things that you really shouldn't bring up...religion and politics.

If Buddha tries to outlaw trail prayer were really gonna have a flame war :)

I think I read a book by him called The View From a Tree Stand. He is an avid deer hunter and he wrote down how it relates to him, his family and his relationship with G-d. Anyone who deer hunts knows there are hours and hours of just sitting and thinking. He does a great job of putting into words the effect that inner reflextion can have on your everyday life.

Hey BB - you gotta give Dodder his due here. It is definitel hiking and trail related - this puts it in the most appropriate 20% of threads right there. (Not that I have anything against controversial off-topic threads).

Thanks Pedxing! This is an excellent book and he did do the one on deer hunting. called "With God on a tree stand." Buy it you can't go wrong. Or if I ever happen to hike with some of you we will have a reading from it at breakfast. By the way, you need a lot of prayer Buddha Bear.

I don't know how anyone can go out in the backcountry and not believe that there is a God.

Nice subject, dodder.
Thanks for posting.

I agree Miss Opie. I've had some of my most uplifting time's on solo trips deep into the backcountry. I am sad so many can't accept it as real.

I really don't care if the doubters don't accept it as real it's their life to do with as they choose but it sure would be nice if they didn't constantly berate those who do accept it as real.

“I've had some of my most uplifting time's on solo trips deep into the backcountry.”

You bring up a great point weather you know it or not SS. I think many times we answer our own questions like, “Where is G-d?”. Many people express the same closeness as you do when in nature. Sometimes they then conclude that G-d is closer or more present in nature. The two factors of these statements is nature and the person. The truth of the matter is that He’s in YOU not in nature. I think it is just much easier to find when one is surrounded by nature and we are quiet and still. I think this is the truest definition of ‘omnipresent’.

Enough babbling. Thanks for making me think.

Thanks for bringing this up. I have this book also (for about 2 years now) and thouroughly enjoy it. I usually don't enable fuego threads because of some of the things posted here. Most of us on here have different beliefs and that is what this country is founded on, but it is also considered a pro-christrian nation. You are welcome to believe in whatever you choose, just don't judge me or demoan me for my beliefs. I do try to keep political and religious discussions out of my hiking trips unless I am with someone like-minded or I see a need or opening to share my faith with them. In that case I do share my testamony. The book in question is very good and a great devotion for the hiker no matter what their denomination. Please do not judge it until you have at least read it. Remember that ignorance about a subject does not make someone an expert on that subject. Since I deer hunt also, I will look for his other inspirational books also.

I almost started to really believe in God when I found out what my special friend was for. I prayed about four times a day.

Ahhhhhh. to be young again.

Yeah, I can't tell you how often a non-believer has knocked on my door to chat with me about his non-belief. It's such a nuisance.

After some searching, I found out that Nathan is the son of Annie and Steve Chapman. Together they have written/authored several inspirational books about everyday spiritual life. link

"I really don't care if the doubters don't accept it as real it's their life to do with as they choose but it sure would be nice if they didn't constantly berate those who do accept it as real."

Actually the Bible makes it clear that one of our biggest missions is to care about the doubters and to help bring them to faith. To not care is to not have faith yourself.
