Just hassling you, DH. Seems like you're always putting out fires over there. Usually work related fires. You're the only person I know that has 4 or 5 different things suddenly pop up. Go with the flow, right? If it were one thing you could blow it off. Four or five, not so much.

Yeah, work things change in a heartbeat here. When things need to get dealt with in the field you have to deal with them. The owner or GC isn't going to be happy to hear there is a delay on a $10,000,000 project 'cause the SE is out hiking.

This time around just sucks. We had the one conflict and my wife was going alone. I was hiking, no problem. We get back in town and is talking to a friend of hers on the phone. The friend mentions the event I'm missing. My wife says I'll be out of town. The friend says I pick a weekend and rattles off a list of things that now take place this weekend. My wife's first thought is that the baby sitter bill will be high. I just can't strand her like that. I'm sorry is all I can say to all of you.

karo - I emailed with Stan. I don't have anything locked. Not sure what the problem is. Maybe the computer is wising up and is now allergic to that awful color of orange he pulls for. DDX, that's right, there's another Auburn fan now coming on the trip. Stan is great to joke with about football on a trip.

I have really learned that from now on, no matter how much I want to, DO NOT SCHEDULE A TRIP IN DEC.

Sounds like you're still coming up 10-12. That's great. This area looks really nice. I was so excited about this one being in a couple of weeks and now I have to wait 6 weeks for my next trip. That blows.

I can't make it on the 10-12th either. I got a gig taking pictures at a formal ball at the university that weekend. The weekend after would be perfect though ;)

Well since everyone is bailing, I found myself a very cheap flight to DC. So, not too much of a disappointment for me. :)

Usually the last week before a trip has about 25-35% defections. Look like I speeded that process up.

I was planning on waiting til Monday to post, "Just kidding." F'em if they can't take a joke.

Seriously, I do feel bad about this. On the one had I feel that this happens enough that I should consider not being a trip organizer. OTOH, my schedule is weird and the likelihood of finding a location I want to go to on a date I can go on is not likely if I rely just on the trips page. That pretty much sums up why I still sign up trips I want to go to. Maybe I should have counselor chili draft a warning for all of my trips?

I still feel bad about the MM thing and it was 18 months ago. 4 day thru-hike of the Smokies and lunch on the day before the trip I get a call that screws the whole thing up.

No worries DH. I always have things that come up and am usually a last-minute decider. That's prolly why I never plan any trips on here - I usually just decide the week or day before and then go. :) Its all good.

Well I am still going, planning on going in early Friday, it also appears that there is not going to be any gun hunting for deer allowed in the management area for that weekend.

Dayhiker don't sweat it.
Not everyone is simply a line employee who gets to bail every day at 4:55. Some jobs simply require more of your time and are more situation driven. And I think everyone here understands your gig is like that.

It's all good as long as the rewards are equal to (or greater than) the irritations.

Well, since dayhiker's not going, I guess that means I can bring my barrel of Jack Daniel's and a troupe of Hooters' girls .

Butt seriously, I'm still a little sore and not sure I'm up to it. Definitely have to investigate the area at a later date, though. It's only about an hour away from my house.

Mulled cider my ass. I think Makers Mark was the culprit.

FG - this thing is also being planned in Jan. Check the trips page if you're interested.

Hey Dayhiker, I'm down as a maybe. I had planned on going up and looking for some frozen and snow covered waterfalls to photograph, maybe I could roll it all into one trip. Is there a good base camp that I could hike too?

Matt - Are you talking about the Dec or the new Jan version? I haven't been here yet but I think the main camp is 2 miles in. At the trips page there is a link t a topo. It's pretty steep coming out. Maybe 1000' gain over the 2 miles. The Outdoors Alabama link shows the trail superimposed on the topo.

I see now that you're on the Jan one. I've been to Sipsey in Jan when there is tons of ice. The same could be true here, just depends. It could be 40 or 60 during the day.

Sorry Dayhiker, If I had read the information on the trips page first, I would not have to ask you all those stupid questions. It will be close , But I'm going to try to make it. I have a couple of prints, that I'll send you. They didn't do a hole lot for me once I got them to 16x20, But I'll send them to you when I get a chance. The Sipsey trip was great. We drank alcohol, we also used Moderation, Right

Matt - No problems on the questions, there are only 500+ posts on this thread. I've learned alot by attempting to put this together. If there is a cold snap when you come there may be a good bit of ice at Jericho, but probably nothing like what you're looking for.

Thanks on the pics.

Exactly on the alcohol. I don't have a problem with it and will bring some myself. Savage Gulf last January was a bit over the top though.

Just wondering....
without reading all the stuff...who is still in for the original dates (next weekend). If the weather is looking good, I'll still consider it, but if everyone has bailed, then I'll do something closer to home. Thanks...

DH, your a slug. I was looking forward to hiking with your newly refurbished stik, but since you bailed, I name thee sluggard.

Around 60/40 for high/low, PC with 20% chance of rain.

I can't recall who all is still going, but it sounds like 4-6 or so.
