Are you feeling better, Bit?

I am today...well, still a little tired. Fortunately fishing is a sitting-down kind of activity and I did a lot of that. But I knew that it was a long climb out of the Walls, and I didn't want to overtax myself after being sick.

embear - how crowded was it? You mention cars and people. I'm pretty surprised to hear that folks know about it yet.

I've been hearing all sorts of people talking about it. The Walls have been known about up here for a long time, you just couldn't go there because it was privately held.

Bushwacking... that means I have to leave my Silnylon backpack at home ;) It'll probably be too cold for my bushwacking shelter i.e. Hennessey Hammock too...

I'm taking my silnylon backpack to get to camp and then using a daypack for the exploration. I'll probably be using my tarptent during the trip.

When a co-worker and I set this trip up we knew this was SEC championship weekend. He is an Auburn grad. We both agreed that LSU would likely represent the west and we didn't need to worry about the game. Now it looks like Auburn will be in the game. Cocoa Williams, as some of you know him, is an Auburn grad. Other local friends going on this trip are Auburn grads too.

Here's what I'm considering:

1. Take a TV and try for coverage. It'd be pretty good to watch the game and drink beer from a bluff top.
2. Postpone 1 week. My concern here is that you start to get into Christmas parties and shopping weekends.
3. Postpone until January.

My wife and I are going to discuss this weekend. She's involved because these dates effect her more than me.

Or, take a radio.

Remember Hurricane Creek?

TVs in canyons?
Radio has better chance.

That's what I'd like. Cocoa has been looking forward to this trip, but won't go if Auburn is playing. The other fellow that thought this thing up too is a maybe. He and his son want to do the trip. Their wives want to go to the game. This trip was pretty much thought up with me, cocoa, and this fellow, who is a client btw, while we were hiking in the Smokies in June. Both are AU grads and have me outnumbered. I may be the organizer of it, but all 3 of us thought it up.

Yah probably should have thought about this when LSU had a hard time getting past Oregon State, lol....

I was thinking we might could get on a bluff and get reception out of Chattanooga. I'm probably going to call a local police or fire department and see what kind of reception they get. I'll bet it's the weirdest call they field all year.

"Uhh, excuse me sir, you live in the boonies and I'm taking a trip there for backpacking. Can you get antenna recpetion for the CBS affiliate out of Chattanooga. My buddies and I want to drink beer and watch football from the top of 200' bluff. K?"

Hell, I'm not the Auburn fan. I knew Bama wouldn't be going, so screw the rest of them. Maybe that needs to be my attitude? j/k.

jmitch, come on down! It's not as cold here in December as it is up there in PA. Plus we generally lack that white stuff you get up there.

I should be able to nail down the date within a week. Also, Little River Canyon is close by and might be worth a peek if you travel that far.

I might be able to join yall if you change the weekend! I would love to go down there again soon.

One thing to keep in mind: Cold/freezing weather will definately make the rocks and walls EXTREMELY slippery. I was slipping and sliding everywhere just from them being wet.

I have concerns about postponing this thing a week, but it may work. My conflict with pushing it to January is that my wife and I are probably going to have a date weekend in Atlanta sometime in January and that puts us out of town twice during the month. That's my busiest time of the year workwise.

It may just have to push a week. I'll know by Monday.

When the date for this trip was picked Jeremy (Coca Williams) and I decided that since LSU would be the likely participant in the SEC Championship game that the game wouldn't present the problem. Well, since some AU grads have been involved in the dreaming up of this trip we now have a problem. Let's scoot this thing back a week.

The new dates will be Dec 10-12. I'll still plan on meeting at the TH at 9am. I'll check back later to see who all will be meeting me there and then and who all might be hiking in later.

Sorry for the mixup, but who actually thought a Tubberville team would OVERachieve?

Oooh... I could bring Timber... he could use a girlfriend ;) Handsome dog!

Most people take to Pete because he's very inactive and just wants to sit there and be petted. Rusty (my mutt) is too hyper for most people... as is Timber. My Husky is just an old grouch (12yo) so he prefers to be by himself. I'll spare everyone the pains of my pack of wild animals ;)
