“I've been in the plant, just couldn't recall exactly.

DDX - are you driving up Fri morning or Thur night?”

“I'll be coming up from south of B'ham off Hwy 280. Looks like either Guntersville or Desoto State Park would be the 'safe' options for camping. Buck's Pocket looks like it may not be too bad either. Anyone ever been there?

Whichever one leaves me with minimal drive time Saturday morning is probably the one I'll go with.”

“Guntersville will be your best bet.....Bucks Pocket is in the middle of nowhere....BUT......you have to get to Guntersville State Park before they lock the gate at night”

“LOL..and if you go to DeSoto......you may not want to leave...it is very pretty there.......”

“I'm taking Fri off... I could leave Thursday after work but I was just gonna head up Friday morning. Should put me there around lunchtimish.”

“Spent a weekend at Desoto earlier this year and had a great time. Very nice place. Any idea what time Guntersville gets locked up?”

“I've heard really good things about Bucks Pocket. I know a guy that takes his son there and they psuedo backpack. You're not really supposed to be able to do that, but they evidently let it slide.”

“On Thurs nite, camp somewhere on the way, and then finish the drive up early friday morning, or maybe not and drive all the way and camp at the TH or something like that.”

“I'm planning on being at the TH by 9am on Friday.”

“I'd recommend either camping at Guntersville SP, or just getting to Jericho and heading into the woods 100 yards or so and just find a flat spot to light for the night.”

There are some nice flat spots at the trailhead you could pitch a tent.

“You should hike something a little stouter in... like a bottle of that Woodford reserve ;)”

“I have about a 1/3 of a bottle left. That might be in order. Miss Opie brought some Bailey's in this past weekend at Sipsey. Very tasty.”

“I also have some Herradura anejo tequilla.”

“Oc course I hike my liquer into the back country in empty Aquafina bottles... gotta go lightweight of course! ;)”

I'm still a go on this trip, and since I have no other obligations to keep me from doing it, I'm probably going to do it. I've never been to Alabama.”

I think the trailhead is in Alabama, but most of the area, from my understanding, is in Tennessee.”

“About 2/3 of the land is in Alabama. The actual Jericho canyon appears to be in Alabama. I need to download the Quad for this area of TN too. I hadn't even thought about it since I'm allergic to orange. I think I'll check it out now, though.”

“When I was there a friend had a GPS. When the trail intersects the creek going up into the Walls area you go from Alabama to Tennessee.”

“It looks like this thing is going to shape up to be a good sized trip. There will be about 5 or so of my local friends going on this one too. It sounds like 10-15 TT'ers are planning on it. That'd be 15-20 total. I usually figure 1/4 will drop out the last 2 weeks due to the usual types of conflicts.”

“I was there this weekend hunting with ALA. It looks like a great hike. Wish I could make it. The ranger said he had to rescue about 2 people a week that couldn't make it back out. Ya'll may want to carpool. There were 33 cars in the parking lot this weekend. It was nearly full. Maybe by then the interest will not be what it was this past weekend of the crowds. It's tough but will be worth it Im sure.

div - the hike out is 3.5 miles with 1000' elev gain. No biggie to most backpackers, but pretty formidable to the typical yuppie hiker. I'm guessing this is the cause. Oh yeah, throw dehydration out there too. It's been a hot fall.”

“I just posted this on the trips page to help avoid confusion. The size of the trip and the interest meant that folks were having to go through over 200 posts to find date changes and the like.”
