HPM - I'm not exactly sure yet. I was thinking about heading up sometime Thurs but it also depends on Skully and Tilt, if either of them are going. You still on the fence?

MM, yeah, I'm riding that bubble.
Looks like the FTA has a ton of work days going on and may already have my concerns covered.

Plus there isn't any reason I couldn't do both.

If I were to go, I'd bail out of work that Friday and boogie on up to arrive Fri afternoon/early evening-ish.

Anybody that would arrive after dark would have a enjoyable hike. I am thinking that I might just come in after dark. And dark it should be as the moon will not be out.

We're waiting to hit the main Walls canyon on Sat in case folks do come in Friday night. Friday will be low keep with some general exploring. There is another canyon upstream labeled Mill Creek. We'll probably check that out on Friday.

So is it pretty confirmed that we will be camping at the designated campsite both nights?

That would be cool. I can bring lots o heavy stuff that I normally can't bring!

Yes, we're going to hike in and stay put. Bushwhacking off trail in full packs isn't for me. I like to have a light day pack so that I can push the envelope a little. I wind up climbing on boulders and things that I probably shouldn't. It's fun though.

Oh DH, there are plenty of boulders and rocks to climb on around here! There are some nice swimming holes too if anyone wants to take a cold dip!

Those are the sorts of things I'm anxious to check out. My wife is supposed to give b'packing another try this summer with a trip to the Smokies. The campsite I have in mind is has lots of off trail swimming holes. If Jericho offers the same then we might go here instead and save 5 hours of driving time.

If you go on during a time that it is not crowded (probably during a week day) then there is an awesome swimming hole in the walls that is down in a pit/cave. Perfect for "swimming" with your SO! I'll show you where it is.

Nice. I'm getting very anxious for this trip in Dec. It seems like the rain chances are proportional to my excitement about a trip. Sipsey a few weeks ago was the exception to that rule, but as Opie will point out, I didn't plan that one.

toph, I'm not sure. You have to climb up a portion of the walls and then you go down into a cave with a pool of deep water. It's very private and all the dayhikers around totally missed it but my friend and I because you do have to climb a little.

“Nigal, I can't tell if you're serious or sarcastic here. I'm voting sarcastic. Also, you've stated several times that you don't like the big trips.”

First one sarcastic, second one serious. This would be an awesome trip as I don't think I've met anyone who's going and it's not that many people going. Damn. I'm going up nort' the weekend of Dec 3-4 the weekend just before the trip. Let me do some thinking and grovling with the wife....one good thing is my wife works the weekends now so it could go good.

And just for the record, I ain't a skeart of no southerners. I find southerners to be nicer than us Yankees. And as far as the purty mouth goes, there's only, what, 8 of you going? It'd take more than that to make me sqeel like Ned Baetty.

Nigal, there are lots of folks who haven't signed up since I originally kept it off the trips page to keep it from getting big. The talk of off trail hiking has kept the numbers in check, and more important, the like mindedness for this type of trip.

would you be kind enough to send me detailed direction to the TH, from Memphis. I have basic road maps, but, once close in Alabama, I want to make certain that we go to the correct place with NO difficulties.

Go East on US 72, passing through the town of Gurley, AL. On the outskirts of Scottsboro, AL, take a left onto Alabama 79. Pass through Hytop, and the trailhead should be a mile or so after that on your left.
