thanks...how far is this from Russle Cave NM? It might be worth my time to go there and do that either on Friday or Sun.

oK, Is everyone going to wear orange on this trip? This may be a dumb question, but where do I find something hunter orange?

I bought a couple of hunter orange vests in the hunting department at WalMart last week. One for me, one for my pack.

Couldn't hurt, but you may need to add some buttons or straps to a vest to get it to stay on her. The one I got only has a single velcro strap on it.

WW usually has orange vests for a buck in the sports department. I've got a few around the garage somewhere that I'll dig up and bring.

I got a blaze orange...
Bandana for Khatru. It looks real good on him too..plus, he wears a bright red pacpack. I'm going to get a orange flag for my pack.

Davinity, chili and I will be coming in late thurs night. If you want a pick up, then you need to be ready then and again, I might make a detour to the NPS site. I do
NPS sites, so, You'd be on my time, and, You'd be sittin with Khatru, if that don't bother you, then I can pick you up, as long as I don't stumble onto the local militia.

I don't think there is going to be any danger from the hunter's in this area. As long as everybody stays away from the compartments that are leased by the hunters. I don't think anybody should be concerned.

I don't see any danger either close to the walls, but we are going to be doing quite a bit of off-trail hiking and may end up near some hunting areas. I don't want to take any chances of my head being blown off. I'm closer to the ground then the others that are going and could be mistaken for an animal :)

This many folks with hunters orange should stand out. I don't expect any problems. The guy I talked to with the state said most hunting is on the east side of Hwy 79. We'll be on the west side the entire time.

Bison - have you found a way to make this trip?

Yeah, flew into Huntsville, found a really cheap flight thanks to this thread, I wouldn't have gone down there this weekend if someone hadn't a mentioned Huntsville.

$80 or whatever it was is just unbelievable cheap. There are good hiking places within 2 hours of there. Sipsey, Jericho, Savage Gulf, Fiery Gizzard...

Is South Cumberland really 2 hours from Huntsville? I thought it was much closer.

Yah, that's about right. Fiery Gizzard is a little closer, but it takes almost three hours to get to Savage Station, f'r instance.

if you and I get down and roll in the dirt, then the hunters would think we were large ground hogs and leave us alone, unless you wear that bunny tale you were telling me about, then I could see a potential problem.

I am thinking that myself, knife girl, and Little Dude, will be down there. We'll bring in some extra gear and either go up the walls if we can find a route at our level and or also head over to the sinks, which is a mile or so from the wall's, and go into the underground river over there. That place is a amazing sight to see.

dayhiker

depends on where the main group camps, I plan on getting there early in the day. And it depends on the weather too, If it is real wet I may sleep under some natural shelter nearby.
