Aron Ralston's account of events which lead to the amputation of his right hand while hiking Utah's Canyonlands hits the shelves today. Should be an interesting read.

yeah BL
A whole big book might be too much for you to handle. Might have to have mommy read it to you.

hmmm... I wonder if there is more to the story than what we heard in the news. This is one I'll prolly look into...

Hour 142: My hand is still caught in the rocks. I wonder...

Hour 143: My hand is still caught in the rocks. I really wish I had told someone where I was going, like my mom.

Hour 144: My hand is still caught in the rocks. Really glad it's not my #&%!$, since I think I may have to cut the thing off.

Hour 145: My hand is still caught in the rocks. Really, really wish I was left-handed about now.

Too cool, man! I just read the freebee in Outside online. He doesn't seem like a great writer but his story sure is interesting.

Looks like there's some other interesting survival stories in this issue as well...

Someone who thinks Alex McCandless was a fool must think this guy is in the same category, right? Tell me if you think there is a difference.

Basically, I think this guy thought himself invulnerable since he was Mr. Solo all the time.

I think McCandless eventually just went off the deep end.

Dunny, Dunny... CHRIS McCandless, if I remember right.

Yes, Chris McCandless. But, he also went by Alexander Supertramp which is prolly where Dun got it.

aaah, yes Alexander Supertramp. I need to read my copy of that book again.

As I said on some other thread, I just found out that Larry Ralston guided our local bank club on a Colorado tour last September. I've got his business card sitting here, as well as a photo of him with the locals dining out. They said he was a great guide.

This was an interesting story... He was guiding this group of 55+ers at Garden of the Gods. Those who wanted to could walk on a path and be met by the tour bus at the other end.

A little ways along the trail, a woman decided she didn't want to go the whole way and returned to the starting point. Alas, no bus! Meanwhile, at the other end, the tour bus ended up short one person.

It was no big deal and soon the woman was reunited with her group. It was at that point that Larry Ralston -- who had talked about his son's situation individually to some before this time -- then told them all that Aron was his son. He apparently said not to worry about this minor incident, which ended well.

The gal who runs the bank club said he spoke a lot about faith over the course of the trip.

Dunadan,
I thinks the difference is McCandless seemed to work at ENDING is life while Ralston worked at SAVING his.
